Chapter 26: XXIV - Breakfast at Dawn and Riku's Challenge

Flashback(5 years ago) - Denmark - Nakiri Manor
3rd POV
We cut to the one of the manors owned by the Nakiri Family in Denmark where Riku is staying at the moment and he is with a young Erina who is arguing with him regards in his decision to leave the classical music world for the modern music.
Erina: What do you mean you're quitting?!
Riku: I'm not quitting Erina. I'm just going from classical to modern.
Erina: That's the same as quitting! You made your name in the classical music world! Why would you lower yourself to them when you're at the top of the world?!
Riku hearing that didn't like it one bit. But since he's the older one here, he tries to explain so Erina can understand.
Riku: I have my reasons to leave Erina. I want to experience new things and this is one of them. I don't want to miss it out and this is my chance to do it.
Erina: But.....
Riku put his hands on Erina's shoulders as he tries to explain further.
Riku: Erina listen to me. Reason why I'm doing this is for my growth and improvement. I can't improve if I stay in one place. That's why I want to change. To know things that I lack and experience it. And that can be said to you as well.
Erina: To me?
Riku: You're already aware that you're gifted. But being gifted isn't enough. Get out of your comfort zone and expand your horizons. Meet people from all walks of life, understand them, and bond with them and who knows. You could become one of the greatest chefs to ever live.
Erina: Could I become a great chef like Saiba-sama?
Riku just shook his head.
Riku: You can. But you can become better than him.
Erina: But how? How can I become like him or even better?
Riku: There is a secret....though you're still 10, you might not understand.
Erina: I don't care. Tell me.
Riku sighed as he tells what he heard from Joichiro.
Riku: I heard this from Joichiro-san. He said that if you want to become a great chef, then you must find a person who you can dedicate your cooking to. And similar to mine, to become a great musician, you must find someone who you can devote your music to.
Erina: Did you find yours?
Riku: I might have. But for you, you just need to find that someone. Once you found yours, you can grow to your true potential.
Erina: How could I find mine?
Riku: That will depend on you. But before you do that, start opening up to Alice.
Erina hearing that looked away from me as if she doesn't want to involve herself with her cousin.
Riku: Haiyaa.....Erina. Try to connect with Alice. I'm sure she'll be able to help you whenever you needed one. She'll be your first step to become a great chef.
Erin: I....I'll try.
Riku nodded to Erina as one of the suit showed up as he approaches Riku.
Riku: I see....I gotta go now Erina. My flight starts in 2 hours.
Erina: Okay.....when we'll we see each other again?
Riku: I don't know...but I can tell that we'll meet again. Until then, work on your craft, make new friends, expand your horizon and find that special someone.
Erina: Hai....I'll do my best.....and I'll make you proud nii-sama!!

Tōtsuki Resort - Hallway - May 28, 2021 - Friday - 6:30 P.M.
Riku at the hallway where he sees Kokoro clinging on Erina's back and they're with a girl with a shot pink hair. Riku can guess, she's Erina's friend.
Riku: Kokoro. Come here.
He called Kokoro as she lets go of Erina and ran to his side.
Kokoro: Onii-chan! Look, I found Erina-chan!
Riku: I can see that. And I got a message from Ran that you bolted out of the room. What was that about?
Kokoro: Ah that, Chisato said that we're free to do what we want, and I want to find Erina-chan.
Riku: I understand. But next time, tell them what you're doing before you left. You know how worried I was when Ran told me about it.
Kokoro: Sorry...I won't do it again onii-chan.
Riku gave Kokoro a headpat as a sign of forgiveness and he turned his attention to Erina.
Riku: So, how have you been?
Erina: I've been doing good...I took your advice.....and you were right. The world really doesn't revolve around me. And....I finally know why you left.
Riku only smiled at Erina's answer. He can tell that she really grew up.
Riku: I'm happy with your progress. And may I ask who is that girl beside you?
Hisako: I'm Arato Hisako! I'm Erina-sama's secretary!
Riku: I see. Then I would like you to continue to be at Erina's side. Kokoro, let's go.
Riku and Kokoro turned around as they head back to their room but Erina called Riku as he stopped in his tracks.
Erina: Nii-sama!
Riku: Erina. I know you want some answers, but finish your training camp first then we'll talk.
Erina only nodded as the two childhood friends left the hallway.
Hisako: Erina-sama.....
Erina: Hisako, do what you need.....I need some time for myself. Don't worry about me, I know what I'm gonna cook tomorrow.
Hisako: Understood.
Hisako left Erina so she can prepare for the task tomorrow leaving Erina alone in the hallway and letting out a sigh.
Erina: So he's back.....I can show him how much I've grown....and I'm surprised he didn't asked me about Alice.
Meanwhile with Riku and Kokoro
Kokoro: Onii-chan, is it okay to leave Erina-chan there?
Riku: She's already a grown woman Kokoro. She'll be fine.
Kokoro: Hmmmm....then what are you doing here onii-chan? I thought you were at Chef Dojima's office?
Riku: I was. But he asked me to come here with him. I'll tell you more with the others once we get back.
After a few minutes, Riku and Kokoro finally got back to their room and once they got inside, they see Rinko at the balcony, Ran is at the kitchen with Chisato making dinner and Kaoru is at the living room.
Kaoru: Ani-sama, you've returned. It seems you found Kokoro.
Riku: I did. Can you call Rinko for me? Kokoro, you can go with Kaoru.
Kaoru: But of course.
As Kaoru went to call Rinko with Kokoro, Riku went to the kitchen to see what Ran and Chisato are up to.
Riku: What're you two doing?
Ran: Nii-san you're back. Well me and Shirasagi are making something for dinner.
Riku: But how did you get the ingredients?
Chisato: It appears you can call the staff to get the ingredients that you need and they'll bring it here. And all of them are of the highest quality.
Riku looked at the ingredients that's on the table and he can see that some of the vegetables are recently harvested.
Riku: As expected from Tōtsuki. So, what're you making for us tonight?
Ran: I would like to try something with these shrimps.....and I know you like them as well. Shirasagi here is helping me with it.
Riku: Then I'll be expecting something good. And Ran, we're all childhood friends here, you can call us by our first name. I know it's a bit uncomfortable to you, but I know you'll get used to it.
Ran just sheepishly nodded to Riku's suggestion as she calls Chisato as they return to cooking.
Ran: I'll try.....let's go back to work.....Chisato.
Chisato only nodded as she and Ran went back to cooking. Riku returned to the living room and Rinko is already back inside.
Rinko: Seta-san and Tsurumaki-san told me everything.
Riku: I see.....Rinko, I told this one to Ran earlier on, but I think it's time for you to call the others by their first name.
Rinko: Eh?
Kaoru: I have to agree with ani-sama. We're all childhood friends here am I right? It's only natural to call us by our first names since we've known each other for years.
Kokoro: Kaoru and onii-chan are right! Come on Rinko! Call me by my name!
As Kokoro was pressuring Rinko to call her by her given name, she was close to faint. She looked at Riku and only nodded. She calmed down a bit as she took a deep breath.
Rinko: I understand....Kaoru-san.....Kokoro-chan.
The three let out a smile seeing Rinko's progression.
Kaoru: Now that's a start.
Riku: Indeed. She only needs to work on that shyness until-
*Knock* *Knock* *Knock*
They heard a knock and turned their attention to the door.
Riku: Did some of you requested something while I was away?
Kaoru: No, we didn't. I'm quite sure that Ran and Chisato only ordered for ingredients.
Riku: I'll go take a look. Stay where you are.
The girls nodded as Riku left the living room as he heads to the door. When he opened the door, he couldn't believe who was outside.
Riku: Y-Y-You're back?!
The people in front of Riku were three adult women. The first one was a girl with short blonde hair with gold colored eyes. She's wearing a black and white dress with a black skirt that reaches her knees and she's showing a calm and mature expression.
The second one is a girl with wavy light blue hair with dark blue eyes. She's wearing a light pink dress with a blue and black trim, and she's letting out a happy go lucky aura.
The last girl has short light brown hair and brown eyes, she's wearing a red and white dress with a pink and black trim and she's letting out an aura that says "confidence".
???: Yes, we have returned Riku.
???: How is our favorite student doing?~
???: Let me see your progress Riku!
They are none other than Lunasa, Merlin and Lyrica Prismriver. Three of the most well known musicians on the planet and they're also Riku's mentors.
Riku: Lunasa-sensei, Merlin-sensei, Lyrica-sensei!
Riku jumped out and gave his three mentors a hug with a smile on his face. Lunasa just returned the hug as she rubbed his back.
Lunasa: Good grief.....and how can we help you?
Lunasa asked Rinko, Kaoru and Kokoro who were peeking at the door and the three childhood friends were surprised.
Rinko: Um....who are you to Riku?
Merlin: I see that Riku hasn't told you about us. Riku, that's enough hugging. Let us in and we'll catch up.
Riku only nodded as they get inside the suite. As they reached the living room and found themselves a seat, the Prismriver sister introduced themselves.
Lunasa: I think that introductions are a must. I'm Lunasa Prismriver. Eldest of the Prismriver sisters and Riku's mentor in regards to stringed instruments.
Merlin: I'm Merlin~. The second eldest of the Prismriver sisters. I teach Riku all there is to know about brass and percussion instruments~
Lyrica: And I'm Lyrica. Youngest of the three, and I teach Riku mainly on the piano and his first mentor.
Rinko: I didn't know that Riku is under the tutelage of the Prismriver Ensemble....no wonder...
Kaoru: I am so honored to be in the presence of such great musicians...this is a moment I will never forget.
Rinko: And as far as I know, you rarely take in disciples. What made you take Riku as your disciple?
Merlin: We found Riku's potential when he was with Lyrica and she had the idea to teach him other instruments. So why not.
Lunasa: And we didn't even expect that his potential could reach to this level...we taught him everything we know for 4 years....
Riku: It's thanks to them, I've reached the top....though I'm still lacking...by the way, why are you three here? I thought you have a European tour till the end of the year?
Lunasa: We did, but with the issues in Russia messed up our plans.....Riku, how's your violin progress....
Riku: It's.....doing fine...well the truth is.....I haven't touched the violin for a year or two, sorry.
Lunasa: Given your situation, that I understand. I know you're playing piano and guitar at the moment, but you mustn't neglect your violin. And Riku, call me Luna-sensei like the old days.
Riku: Hai...Luna-sensei.
Lyrica: I saw your play at the Future World Fes Riku. And I was very impressed that you played such a fast paced piece with just one hand.
Riku: You saw that?
Lyrica: Yes, it was impressive. And at the same time reckless. Your hand could've gone some permanent damage if the match continued, I'm glad that you finished it in two.
Riku: I know. I got an earful from Eirin-sensei and grandfather. And I got a wake up call from Rinko.
Lyrica: I'll hold you on to that. Your name is Rinko right? Riku has told us a lot about you.
Rinko: Eh? Me?
Lyrica: Riku told me that you have potential...let me be the judge of that.
All of a sudden Lyrica put her hand on Rinko's head which the latter was surprised as she see Lyrica just closed her eyes.
Kaoru: What is Lyrica-sensei doing?
Merlin: Lyrica wants to see the potential hidden within her. If her potential reaches her expectations...
Lyrica opened her eyes and retracted her hand on Rinko and she was just nodding with a smile on her face.
Lunasa: What's the verdict Lyrica?
Lyrica: She has potential alright. And a huge one at that. She might even surpass Riku.
Rinko couldn't believe what she heard. She didn't expect that she had the potential to surpass Riku.
Rinko: Do I really have what it takes?
Merlin: If Lyrica says that you can, then you can. Just trust in your ability and let it flow.
Riku: By the way, you three can let loose now. They already know what we really are.
The three sisters looked at Riku as he only just nodded. And right at that moment, a floating violin appeared beside Lunasa, a trumpet appeared beside Merlin and a piano with wings on both sides appeared beside Lyrica and the three sisters began to hover in the air.
Kaoru: Don't tell me that they're-
Riku: A bit different. Luna-sensei, Mer-sensei and Lyri-sensei are poltergeists.
Rinko: So they're ghosts?
Lunasa: Pretty much, since we're affiliated to the Saigyouji after all.
Riku: That will be discussed at a later date. Anyway, sensei, are you staying here for dinner? I could ask Ran and Chisato to make more.
Lyrica: We wanted to, but we have to leave and return to the manor. We just stopped by because we heard that you were here.
Riku: I see. Then take care. Be careful out there. With the current events happening, there's no telling what might happen.
Merlin: Thanks for the heads up.
The three sisters returned to their human state and left the hotel.
Riku: Well that was unexpected. But still....it's good to have them here.....
Kaoru: You seemed to be very open to them ani-sama.
Riku: Aside from grandfather and Yuyuko-san, they were one of the few to teach me how to love...even though they only think of instruments. Kokoro, I want you to send this to the staff and bring it here. You think you can do it?
Riku gave a piece of paper to Kokoro as she recieved it, she gave a salute to Riku saying that she can do it.
Kokoro: Leave it to me onii-chan!
Kokoro left the room as she finds one of the hotel staff and the three who remained in the living room sweatdropped.
Kaoru: She could've just used the phone right?
Riku: It's Kokoro, what can you expect.
Chisato: Riku. Dinner is about to be ready in 5. Where's Kokoro-chan and the other guests?
Riku: So you knew that Luna-sensei are here earlier?
Chisato: Me and Ran-chan knew, but decided to keep quiet as we want to focus cooking.
Riku: Huh...about Kokoro, I gave her something to send to the staff, she'll be back in a moment.
Chisato: Alright...can you help me setting up the plates?
Riku nodded and helped Chisato setting up the plates. And a few minutes later, Ran finished cooking and at the same time, Kokoro returned from the errand that Riku gave her.
Kokoro: I'm back!! The staff told me that it'll be here in an hour.
Riku: You're back, and just in time. Tidy yourself up first then we'll eat.
Later.....
Riku POV
Dinner went smoothly and finished without any problems. When Kokoro finished tidying herself, Ran and Chisato presented what they made and I was surprised because the two of them made a seafood paella....one of my favorites.
Ran told me that she put her own twist to the dish as she used Gulf Shrimp imported straight from Louisiana and Clams straight from Boston.
The dish was good, but it lacks a little kick in the spiciness because I prefer it spicy. And since I'm not the only one eating it, then it can't be helped. I even asked for the recipe but Ran said that it was a recipe only to herself.
After dinner, while Rinko and Chisato were washing the dishes, one of the hotel staff showed up bringing the ingredients that I requested. and when the ingredients got in the room, the girls reaction was.....well...on point.
Ran: What in the....
Kaoru: Ani-sama...what did you request?
Kokoro: That's a lot of green!!
Chisato and Rinko just finished washing and they were surprised to see a lot of green on the table.
Chisato: Riku.....what is this?
Riku: I'm gonna use these for what I'm about to bake.
Rinko: Now that you mentioned that, you said that there was another reason why you're here right?
Riku: Three reasons actually.
Ran: Three?
Riku: The first one is for us to catch up with just us. I mean we haven't seen each other for so long right?
Kaoru: True. You left Japan for at least a decade. Even though you returned to Japan back then, we didn't know. So what's the second reason?
Riku: It regards to the Tōtsuki students that are having their training camp here. You see, Sanzaemon-dono asked me to give those students a reality check.
Chisato: A reality check?
Riku: Most of the students at Tōtsuki have a huge case of superiority complex. They think that they're the shit and looking down on commoners.
Ran: Ah those kind.....I've read too much manga to know where this is going.
Riku: Well I think Ran gets the memo. The director wants me to make something for the students and surprise them that it was me who made it. Show them that even someone who isn't a chef can make food as good as a real chef.
Kokoro: But why you onii-chan? I know you're a great baker but still.....
Riku: You didn't know this Kokoro, but Sanzaemon-dono offered me to enroll at Tōtsuki back then. He even offered me to become one of the Elite Ten, one of the schools most elite chefs.
The girls eyes were wide as saucers hearing me say that I was offered to study at the best culinary school in the world.
Riku: But I turned it down.
Childhood Friends: WHAT?!
Rinko: But why?!
Riku: Simple really. Because I love music more than cooking. I use cooking as a means to escape. To relieve stress aside from playing NFO. Since you and Chisato finished washing the dishes, I'm gonna use the kitchen now. I want you girls to try what I plan to make tomorrow.
I left the dining room as I take the ingredients to the kitchen and I see the girls were getting excited.....thought they don't show it, I can tell from their atmosphere. I put the ingredients on the counter and I start baking.
(A/N: I'm using the turtle bread from Yakitate!! Japan for this one. Both anime and manga didn't show how Azuma Kazuma made it step by step, so fuck it. Reference it on Episodes 16 and 17.)
After putting the bread in the oven as I wait for it to cook and just in case, I put on a timer to make sure I don't fuck it up, I returned to the living room where the girls are.
Ran: Nii-san. Are you sure you want to leave the oven alone?
Riku: Don't worry, I put on a timer. And once it's done, I'm sure you're in for a shock.
Ran: If you say so....then let's continue where we left off....you mentioned the two reason why we're here. What's the last one?
Riku: I was getting into that. But let me make a call for a sec.
I went to my room as I took out a tablet and set it on the table.
Kaoru: A tablet? For what?
Riku: Someone who should be in the conversation as well.
As we were waiting for the call to go through.....the call was answered and Chu² finally showed up.
Riku: So you finally answered the call.
Chiyu: Me and the band are busier than ever than you think Iku. And where the hell are you? No way that you're in the estate.
Riku: You're right about that, because I'm currently here at the Tootsuki Resort.
Chiyu: Damn. I always wanted to go there.....can't be helped. It already happened. So, why did you call me?
Riku: I called you here because what I'm about to discuss is something that my childhood friends needs to know.
Chiyu: So it's not just me, but also the other childhood friends from other bands as well? Very well. Out with it.
Riku: Alright.....here's what happened.
Several minutes of explaining later.....
Riku: And that's about it.
Chiyu: Now it all makes sense....fucking hell....this shit has become more problematic for you.
Chisato: Will the other families act on this?
Riku: The rules say that they are not allowed to interfere directly....my grandfather however told the other family heads to leave it to us.
Kokoro: If the Celestial Families can't help you then let me help you onii-chan!
Kaoru: That may be a great idea Kokoro. But you need to understand ani-sama's situation right now. If they know that the Tsurumaki is helping the Nagae, it'll only put a target on your back.
Kokoro: Oh.....
Ran: Rinko.
Rinko was just silent and wasn't answering Ran's call. Rinko's expression became pale and as if the life in her eyes was just gone.....
Ran: No use. She can't hear me.
Chiyu: No shit. It's kinda obvious that she'll be in that state when she heard that Iku is engaged.
Chisato: I think it's kinda given....to well.....you know....his background.
Kaoru: But what made Rinko to be this down?
Chiyu: I may have an idea....though I can say it clearly that the timing was way off....Iku....she confessed right?
Ran, Kaoru and Chisato looked at me almost immediately. Kokoro was comforting Rinko as she turned her gaze to me as well. They were waiting for an answer and I just sighed.
Riku: She did. Right the day before the Live started.
The girls were surprised that Rinko confessed to me as they looked at her in a sorry state.
Ran: So.....what happens now?
Riku: For now, we wait. I'm to meet my fiancé at the 12th of June. Grandfather and Yuyuko-san will be coming with me to meet her.
Chisato: Anything else?
Riku: Hmmm...grandfather did tell me to bring Rinko with me along with her family.
I noticed Rinko's body twitched. It seems I got her attention.
Kaoru: But why bring Rinko?
Chiyu: Knowing jiji, whatever he's planning can be either a hit or miss....
Riku: Chu²'s right. Grandfather told me to just trust him...Rinko.....are you going with me on that day?
Rinko slowly raised her head as she looked at me and slowly nodded her head. I went to her as I put my hand on her shoulders.
Riku: Okay.....but I will tell you Rinko that things are gonna be alright. You need to trust me and grandfather...okay?
Rinko: I....I'll try...I'll believe in you.....like I always do.
I kissed her in the forehead to give her comfort and right on time, the timer was up and I had a grin on my face.
Riku: It's time.
Chiyu: Well if that's all that is needed to be said, then I'm out of here. I got a sponsorship deal coming tomorrow.
Rinko suddenly looked at Chu² when she heard that RaS gets a sponsor as well.
Rinko: Chiyu-san, you get a sponsor as well?
Chiyu: Calling me by my name huh? I don't mind, and yes. We got a deal with Monster Energy.
Riku: Monster Energy huh? So you're getting a deal the same as Team Liquid and Gen G.
Chiyu: Yeah, A representative will arrive at the penthouse tomorrow morning and I want to be ready as much as possible.
Riku: I see. Then get some rest.
Chu² saluted as she ended the call and I went to the kitchen straight away and told the girls to come with me.
Riku: Behold...my latest creation.
As I opened the oven, a green beam of light came out of the oven and the girls were covering their eyes from the brightness it gives. when the light dimmed down, they couldn't believe their eyes on what they are seeing and I just showed them a very confident smile.
The Next Morning
May 29, 2021 - Saturday - 4:30 A.M.
I was the first one to wake up for obvious reasons. I got out of the bed and did my usual stretches, I changed to my gym clothes and brought a bag of spare clothes, as I head to the gym that the hotel has. And as I got out of my room I see Rinko in the living room holding a glass of milk.
Riku: I didn't expect that you woke up early....
Rinko: Riku.....I just...I couldn't get some sleep....
Riku: I see.....are you still thinking on what happened last night?
Rinko: I was...I know that there's no helping it cause it already happened.....but I will trust you...where are you going?
Riku: To the gym. This is what I do to start my day. You can come with me if you want.
Rinko: Then let me get changed for a moment.
Rinko returned to her room as I wait for her to get changed. And several minutes later, she came out of her room and she's currently wearing her school tracksuit while carrying a bag.
Riku: You brought your school tracksuit?
Rinko: I took your advice back then. You said that I need to increase my stamina right? I've been doing some workout myself.
Riku: I see, then let's not waste any time.
Me and Rinko left the suite as we head to the gym.
Tōtsuki Resort - Gym - 5:00 A.M.
We reached the gym and surprisingly, there's someone already inside. And I thought that I'll be the first one here. The person inside was a man with a very muscular figure that is letting out an intimidating aura, and I can see from Rinko that she is shaking. The man seemed to notice our presence as he greeted us.
Gin: Riku! Good morning! So you've come here to work out?
Riku: Good morning to you as well Gin-san. And yes, I'm here to work out. I've been doing this for the last 6 years after all.
Gin: Hm...who's the lass beside you?
Riku: This is Shirokane Rinko.....my....girlfriend.
Gin-san was taken aback and Rinko quicly looked at me when she heard that I said that she was my girlfriend.
Gin: Really now? Then congratulations! I'll leave you two lovebirds alone, I'm already done with my routine. And Riku, good luck today.
Riku: Don't worry, I won't disappoint.
Gin-san left the gym with a nod leaving me and Rinko behind. I looked at Rinko as she was beet red right now.
Rinko: Riku.....do you really mean it?
RIku: You being my girlfriend? I mean we both confessed our feelings right? So technically we are, but with the current situation...
Rinko: I understand...so we have to keep it low until then.....I'm okay with it.
Riku: I'm glad you understand. Now let's get started. We have to wake the others up later.
Rinko: H-hai!
One Workout Session Later...
Me and Rinko finished our workout. Before I even began mine, I had to check on how she does hers first. So she gave me the rundown on her routine and most of them increases her stamina. From pushups to squats, hell she even tried swimming but that didn't work according to her. So I suggested her to do some cycling or even some mountain climbing and of course I helped her on how to do it. And as she got the hang of it, I left her alone and began my workout. And as I finished mine and got back to see her progress, Rinko is lying on the floor exhausted.
After a few minutes of rest, We get into the showers and changed our clothes and returned to our room as we get ready for today.
Tōtsuki Resort - 8th Floor - Riku's Hotel Room - 6:30 A.M.
When me and Rinko got back from the gym, Chisato, Ran and Kaoru are already awake and all that's left is for Kokoro to wake up.
Ran: Good morning nii-san. I see you've returned from your workout.
Chisato: And Rinko-chan is with you as well.
Riku: Yeah, she kinda woke up the same time as me, so I invited her to join me. Kaoru, did you wake up Kokoro?
Kaoru: I've tried ani-sama, she won't budge.
Kaoru shrugged her arms to see her failed attempt in waking Kokoro.
Riku: Leave it to me.
I just said that and went straight to Kokoro's room. And as I entered, Kokoro was still asleep and I can see that she is smiling in her sleep.
Kokoro(mumbling): Ehehehehe...Happy.....Lucky.....Smile....Yay~.....
Riku: Good grief...Kokoro, wake up. If you don't wake up right now, no cream puffs for you.
Kokoro: NOT THE CREAM PUFFS!!!!!
And just like that, Kokoro woke up almost immediately. Kokoro may like everything, but she likes the cream puffs that I made more than anything. Kokoro looked at me as I greeted her with a smile.
Riku: Good morning Kokoro.
Kokoro: Onii-chan.....my cream puffs.....
Kokoro asked me about the cream puffs with those puppy dog eyes...you know I can't say no to that....
Riku: I'll make you some cream puffs tomorrow. I promise. But for now, get changed.
Kokoro: Hai! And thank you onii-chan!!
I left Kokoro's room so she can get changed. and outside the waiting for me was the girls were surprised that I woke Kokoro up that quick.
Kaoru: How did you wake her up that fast ani-sama?
Riku: I just threatened her that she won't be getting any cream puffs.
Ran: Cream puffs?
Riku: I made her some when she was 7 and she loved it ever since. She's been requesting me to make some for her from time to time.
Ran: I see...then I'll go ahead and make-
Riku: We're not having breakfast here Ran.
Chisato: If we're not having breakfast here, then where?
Riku: Get yourselves changed. We're going to a breakfast buffet.
Ran/Chisato/Kaoru/Rinko: Breakfast buffet?
Riku: Yup, and looking at the time...they're already starting cooking. We'll go there at 7, is that okay?
The girls nodded to my suggestion and I'm getting a call from Gin-san.
Riku: Let me take this one for a moment.
I go to the balcony as I answered the phone.
Gin: Riku. Where are you right now?
Riku: I'm still at my room. I'm waiting for the girls to get ready before I go there.
Gin: I see.
Riku: Oh right, in regards on the ingredients that I'm going to use today. If it's okay with you, can you bring them to the kitchen?
Gin: Actually, there has been a change of plans.
Riku: Explain.
Gin: Instead of the students trying what you made. We decided to have you face off against a certain student. Are you okay with that?
Riku: And who's the one I'm going up against?
Gin: Akanegakubo Momo. Tōtsuki's current 4th seat. A dessert specialist like you. Although your more inclined to breads and pastries.
Riku: So you want me to face against a member of the Elite Ten? Fine. What are the terms and conditions?
Gin: Nothing much. Akanegakubo-kun has decided to go with animal bread as a theme.
Riku: When will the challenge start?
Gin: Once the final program of the training camp ends. I'm very sorry to dump this all on you.
Riku: It's okay. Gotta go. Were gonna head to the venue right now.
Gin: Very well, I'll be seeing you.
Gin-san ended the call and I returned inside, only to see the girls already changed. Chisato saw me as she shows me her signature smile.
Chisato: So.....how do we look, Riku?
Riku: Do you want my individual opinion?
Chisato:.....you know what, nevermind. If you start...it might take an hour or two till you finish.
Kaoru: Good thing you remembered that one time Chisato.
Riku: Since you don't want an individual opinion. As a whole, it looks good on all of you, especially for Kaoru, Chisato and Rinko.
Kaoru: Oya~
Chisato: Me?
Rinko: What do you mean by that Riku?
Riku: I mean it's the first time I've seen Chisato done her hair in a ponytail...to be honest, it perfectly fits her. For Kaoru, it's the first time I've seen your hair down. I know that you didn't tie your hair back then, but this time, it brings out the maiden in you. And for Rinko, the dress you wear today shows the mature side of you....and....you look very beautiful...
After hearing my opinions, the three mentioned girls were blushing, Ran is giving me a smirk and Kokoro was just giggling as she sees Kaoru blushing.
Chisato: I.....I see...I think I might do this more often...
Kaoru: I....I appreciate the compliment ani-sama....
Rinko: Riku....I.....
Ran: Okay, that's enough from the three of you. I know you three are in la la land right now, but we have a buffet to go today.
The three snapped out of it as they realized that time is ticking.
Chisato: Right.....that. Riku, do you know where the venue is?
Riku: Yup. Gin-san gave me the directions. Let's go.
Tōtsuki Resort - Hall A - 7:00 A.M.
3rd POV
Riku and the girls have reached the venue that Gin told him to go, and as they entered the hall, it's already in full swing. The students are serving food left and right which surprises the girls in seeing the atmosphere of the venue.
Chisato: Why do I feel like that they're fighting in a war?
Kaoru: I heard from some of my little kittens that Tōtsuki is well known for it's ruthlessness in regards to their standards. Once you don't meet Tōtsuki's standards, you're expelled, no hesitations.
Ran: And I heard from father that there is one time that only 5% of students have graduated from Tōtsuki.
Rinko: What're we gonna do Riku?
Riku: Find something that you girls like. But don't go overboard in what you eat. Remember, we're not only here to have breakfast, we're here to judge them as well.
Kokoro: Onii-chan! Can we go where Erina-chan is?
Riku: Sure why not. Gin-san told me that Erina is here in this venue too.
Kokoro: Really?! Where is she....I found her!
Kokoro grabbed Riku's hand and dashed her way to Erina while dragging Riku with him leaving Rinko and the others behind.
Ran: Well that happened...let's just do what nii-san told us to do.
The other three girls nodded as they look around to see what's good to eat.
Chisato was walking around as she smells something that caught her attention.
Chisato: That scent...it's so fragrant.
She followed where the scent is coming from and she saw on the table is a plate of frittatas.
Chisato: A frittata....from what I heard from Riku that this is an Italian dish but.....I get the feeling that this is not your normal frittata.
Takumi: You are correct signora, because this frittata is meant to be eaten with insalata.
Takumi took the frittata and broke it into small, rough pieces and dresses it with vegetables. Then he drizzles it with balsamic sauce and he puts a bit of parmesan cheese and presented the dish to Chisato.
Takumi: And here you go signora. My Insalata Frittata.
Chisato: An interesting take on a frittata....let's taste.
Chisato takes a bite on the vegetable mixed frittata and she couldn't believe on how delicious it is.
Chisato: Incredible. The texture of the eggs are fluffy and the vegetables are crisp and very fresh. And the sauce really compliment the overall taste of the dish. A perfect breakfast for someone who wants to have a healthy meal to start the day.....compliments to the chef.
Takumi: Grazie!!
While Chisato was enjoying eating her meal, Kaoru showed up to see what's up.
Kaoru: Chisato, what you're eating there?
Chisato: He said that this is a Frittata Salad.
Kaoru: Interesting...can I have one as well?
Takumi: Very well.
Takumi did what he did with Chisato's and presented it to Kaoru. As she took a bite, she lets out her opinion.
Kaoru: Such an elegant dish. The flavors match each other and not overpowering the other.....ah! Hakanai~....thank you very much for the meal.
Now we go to Ran as she wanders around as she sees a girl with long dark blue hair that is tied in braided pigtails with yellow eyes, presenting her dish a bit nervously. She is Tadokoro Megumi, one of Soma's friends and a fellow resident of the Polar Star Dorm.
Megumi: I-If you don't mind. Please try this dish. This is a bite-sized Breakfast Oden!
Ran caught her interest as this is the first time she sees an oden in this version.
Ran: An oden huh? And a small version of it too. And toothpicks? Quail eggs. I see now.....
Rinko: Ran-san. This is?
Ran: Ah Rinko. She called this a bite-sized breakfast oden.
Rinko: Interesting....
Ran and Rinko took a bowl and picked one of the toothpicks that has an egg and took a bite.
Ran(thoughts): A very relaxing taste. I can taste a mild-tasting dashi the moment I took a bite into it. And the size of the quail eggs matched the size of the vegetables as well.
Rinko(thoughts): And this feeling...the feeling of warmth covers my entire body....such a homely dish....it's....delicious.
Ran and Rinko lets out a genuine smile and when Megumi saw it, her confidence reached an all time high.
Now we go to Riku and Kokoro. As the two were heading to where Erina is at, Erina is already busy serving her customers. But Kokoro didn't care in the slightest, she went forward until the two reached the front and reached Erina.
Kokoro: Erina-chan! I'm here! And I brought onii-chan here with me!
Riku: Yo. Erina.
Erina: K-Kokoro-nee?! Nii-sama also?!
Everyone stopped what they're doing as they heard Erina shout. Some of the students were shocked that they were close to Erina.
Takumi(thoughts): Nakiri-san knows them as well? And she called Riku "nii-sama" and the girl "Kokoro-nee".
Megumi(thoughts): Are they siblings? Or is it more than that?
Meanwhile the flustered Erina manage to collect herself as she presented 2 egg dishes to Kokoro and Riku.
Erina: This is my take on Eggs Benedict. This is for you Kokoro-nee.
Kokoro received the plate from Erina, And as she cuts the egg in half, Kokoro's excitement is on full blast as the yolk oozes through out the dish. She took a bite and her eyes went wide.
Kokoro: Erina-chan! You used Karasumi Powder on the muffin right?
Erina: You noticed it that fast? I'm impressed. And as for you nii-sama...here.
The other guests were shocked as the dish presented to Riku was very different compared to what she served. Riku saw the dish and he let out a smirk on Erina.
Riku: A Crab Benedict.....very crafty for you Erina.
What Erina presented to Riku was a Crab Benedict. It's similar to an Eggs Benedict but instead of bacon, crabs are used as a substitute.
Riku: You know I like these....but why present this one compared to your regular eggs benedict?
Erina: I want to show you how much I've grown.
Everyone was surprised when they discovered that Erina cooked a single crab benedict just for a certain person. Riku was looking at Erina and he just smiled. He took the plate and took a bite.
Riku: Incredible...the eggs are perfectly poached, crabs are taken off the boil at he right time and with the right amount of spice.....with the karasumi powder that Kokoro mentioned elevates the dish and....you put caviar in the center....
Erina gave Riku a smirked as he discovered the gimmick on the crab benedict which shocked the people around him.
Riku: You cheeky lass.....you really improved. Well done.
Erina pumped her fists a little as her plan was a success and Riku was just shrugging his arms. Erina looked at her right and she was shocked. Riku saw Erina's reaction and looked at the direction where she was looking and.....
Riku: Well that's not good. the dish is completely deformed.....at this point...
Erina: Yukihira-kun will be expelled.
Riku: Yukihira huh? I see.....now it all makes sense.
Erina: Nii-sama, what are you on about?
Riku: Erina. What are your plans for tonight?
Erina: Me and Hisako were planning to play some games.
Riku: Sorry, but I would like to ask you to cancel them. I want to talk to you about something.
Erina: Is it important that I had to cancel my plan?
Riku: Very much so. Meet me at Gin-san's office at 8. I'll inform Gin-san about it.
P.A.: 45 minutes remaining!!!
The P.A. spoke through the speaker as there is only 45 minutes left.
Takumi(thoughts): Yukihira! What now?! Are you just gonna kick the bucket now?!
Megumi(thoughts): Soma-kun...
Erina: What now Yukihira-kun?
Riku carefully observed Soma as he noticed something odd. After figuring it out, he shows a grin that caught Erina's attention.
Erina: Nii-sama?
Riku: He found out what he must do.
Erina: He found out?
Kokoro: Just watch Erina-chan.
Riku: You figured it out as well Kokoro?
Kokoro: Hai. Look! Someone's coming to his table!
Riku: A kid....let's see...
Riku and Kokoro observed Soma as he makes a freshly made omellete. The little girl was mesmerized as she sees how it was made right in front of her. As Soma finished making the dish, he presents it to the child. The little girl took a bite of it and she started to eat in a fast pace.
And bit by bit, people gained his attention as Soma begins to make more in a fast pace. The guests were amazed by Soma's speed and precision as they can't wait to taste his food. As the minutes go by, he's narrowing the margin and by Riku's estimates, he's served at least 140 by now
Erina: He manage to draw the attention of the people with just that...
Riku: Not just the people that is just coming in.
Riku pointed behind him as Erina sees that her customers are going to Soma's side.
Erina: He even took mine.....
Riku(thoughts): Bit by bit he's improving his pace without even breaking a sweat. Very impressive Yukihira Soma...guess you really are Joichiro-san's kid after all.
Riku noticed that Kokoro was drooling seeing Soma's dish being made.
Riku: Want to go there?
Kokoro nodded like a kid that is getting a christmas present. Riku only nodded as they head to Soma's table. Soma didn't seem to notice Riku as he continued to cook, Riku took 2 plates of freshly made omelette and gave one to Kokoro. Riku took a bite and he figured out why it deformed in the first place.
Riku(thoughts): Now I can understand why it deformed in the first place...guessing by his expression at first, he hasn't experienced serving a buffet. The dish can be said delicious if eaten almost immediately, otherwise it will shrivel up in due time and the flavor factor will go bad.
Riku looked at Kokoro as she was so focused on the food. Chisato and the other girls arrived looking at me to see what I'm eating.
Chisato: What's that Riku?
Riku: If I had to guess, it's a souffle omelette. You want one?
They just nodded as they get a plate themselves and tasted it. Riku looked at their faces and it seems that they enjoyed it.
P.A.: Yukihira Soma has served 200 meals!!!
Soma took of his headband as he exhaled hard and at the same time, a whistle was heard throughout the hall.
P.A.: FINISH!! STOP RIGHT THERE!!!
As the P.A. said that, some of the students were sighing that they made the quota and some of them were on their knees that hey failed to meet the required number. Soma looked at Erina and he just lets out a smug face while showing a thumbs up which irritated the girl.
Erina: What's with that "Did you see that?" face?! Finishing at the last moment isn't something to be proud of!!
Riku: Easy there Erina. Calm down.
???: That was surprising!! I thought you would get stuck to eight meals!!.....but to think you manage to get through with a stunt like that, I'm impressed.
with Riku, Erina and Soma's surprise, a girl with fair-white skin with short silver hair that has a longer strand where it initially reaches the bottom of her chin, red ruby eyes that is similar to Riku and a well developed body that is similar to Erina's showed up from out of nowhere.
Soma: Ha?
Riku: Alice?
Alice: Long time no see, Riku-nii-sama~
The girl names Alice clinged to Riku's arm which surprised everybody, especially Riku's childhood friends minus Kokoro.
Chisato: Excuse me....but who are you to cling to onii-sama?
Chisato calls out Alice as she lets out a dark aura around her. And she called Riku onii-sama in front of everyone to boot means that she is angry.
Alice: I'm Nakiri Alice. And as you notice, Erina here is my cousin. And Riku-nii-sama is my dearest brother~
Soma: Is he also a Nakiri then?
Soma pointed at Riku, but he shook his head to deny the claim.
Riku: No. They just see me as an older brother, nothing more.
Soma: Hm...so you're a Nakiri too huh? Say, do you have that "God Tongue" or something?
Alice: Nope. Only Erina has one in our generation.
Riku: Alice....when are you keep clinging on my arm?
Alice: You don't like it? I mean you didn't mind when we were kids right?
Riku: Yeah but...look in front of you.
Alice turned her attention to Chisato and Rinko who were letting out a dark aura and Chisato is using her signature smile but with a completely different meaning. While Kaoru and Ran were just shrugging their arms from behind.
Alice: And they are?
Riku: My other childhood friends.
Erina: Right. You did say that you and your childhood friends were having a short vacation here.
Riku: Good thing you remembered. Let me introduce you to them. The tall one with the purple hair is Seta Kaoru.
Kaoru: A pleasure to meet you fair ladies. To marvel at such beauty such as you two....ah~ hakanai~
Alice: A flamboyant one at that.
Erina: Does she do that everytime?
Riku: Most of the time. Anyway, the girl with the short black hair is Mitake Ran.
Ran: Mitake Ran. Pleasure.
Erina: On behalf of Tōtsuki, I thank your family for providing us the flowers that were sent here.
Ran: It's nothing much....but you're welcome.....
Riku: Moving on, the one who is glaring at Alice is Shirasagi Chisato.
Alice: Shirasagi Chisato? You mean the famous actress? You really hit the jackpot there Riku-nii-sama~
Riku can see Chisato was getting uncomfortable when Alice called her a famous actress.
Riku: Alice, it's better for you to not call Chisato that.
Alice: Oh.....I see. I apologize if I made you uncomfortable.
Chisato: It's fine....but won't you let go of him already? You can see that he's getting uncomfortable with it?
Alice noticed Riku was getting a bit annoyed and decided to let go of him.
Riku: Thank you. Anyways, I guess that you already know Kokoro right?
Alice: Good to see you again Kokoro-nee-sama.
Kokoro went to hug Alice and the latter returned the hug as well.
Kokoro: Nice to see you again Alice-chan!
Riku: And this here is Shirokane Rinko.
Rinko said nothing as she gave a bow to the Nakiri cousins. Feeling nervous, she held Riku's hand firmly, Alice seemed to notice and she had a sly smile on her face.
Alice: Ara~ Is she by chance your girlfriend?
Riku: She can be considered someone very important to me. But on to other matters.
Riku turned his attention to Soma and the young chef was getting a bit tense.
Riku: Yukihira Soma right?
Soma: Yeah....how do you know my name?
Riku: Hmmm.....yup. You're really are your old man's son.
Soma was surprised that someone knew his father and asked him how he met him.
Soma: How did you meet oyaji?
Riku: Your old man and my father were friends and at the same time were business partners back then. He told me back then that you had potential to become a great chef. And from what I saw from your performance just now I can see why. And with that....
Riku pulls out a card and passes it to Soma. when he caught the card, he saw Riku's name along with his number.
Riku: If you need any help in something, use that number to call me. It won't guarantee that I will come personally, but I will assure that the help you'll get will come from me.
Alice: Well how about that. Looks like Riku-nii-sama has approved of you Yukihira-kun.
Soma: Is it that big of a deal?
Erina: You have no idea. Getting a favor from one of the Celestial Families is a huge deal. And to think that nii-sama has approved of you is something that I didn't expect. And from someone with a humble background, you've earned my respect.
Soma: What's this? Her majesty Nakiri Erina respects me?
Erina: Don't push your luck Yukihira-kun. Nii-sama has approved of you, so don't disappoint him.
Riku: I don't want to break your conversation but.....
P.A.: This is a message for those who completed 200 meals!
Soma, Erina, Alice and the other students who passed turned their attention to the P.A. through the speaker as the P.A. informs the students of their next task.
P.A.: The next assignment will start in 4 hours. The time until then is free time. That is all.
As the announcement ended, some of the students couldn't take it anymore due to the lack of rest.
Riku: I think you guys need some much needed rest. Don't do something unnecessary.
Erina: I will.
Alice: Don't worry about me.
Riku: Then I'll hold you to it. And Soma. I'll be expecting a lot from you. Survive.
Soma was taken back from Riku's words, he understood what he meant and he showed a confident grin which Riku only nodded.
Riku: Good. Girls, let's go. And Erina....what I told you earlier.
Erina nodded as Riku and the girls left the hall.
Alice: What did Riku-nii-sama told you about Erina?
Erina: He says that it has something to do with me.....he said that we'll meet at Chef Dojima's office at some time while he's here.
Alice: Can I come too? If it's something to do with you, then it concerns the entire Nakiri as well.
Erina: Do what you want. Yukihira-kun, get some rest. You're gonna need it.
With Riku and the girls - 8:20 A.M.
Riku: So, how's the breakfast?
Chisato: It was refreshing. The frittata salad was something else.
Kaoru: Indeed. Oh how I wish I could get the recipe, I want to eat that every now and then.
Ran: The bite-sized breakfast oden was good. Kokoro would've loved it if she didn't ran away with nii-san.
Riku: I'm glad that you girls enjoyed it. Since we have a lot of time in our hands, what do you girls want to do?
Chisato: Actually, me and Kaoru are planning to go to the spa.
Riku: Really now? Anyone else have other plans?
Kokoro: There's a mountain climbing range here that I want to try so I'm heading there!
Ran: I'm going with Chisato and Kaoru too. I want to relax my body while I'm here.
Riku: So that leaves me and Rinko. Alright then. We meet at lunch is that good?
The girls nodded minus Rinko and left to go where they plan to go.
Riku: Looks like it's just us...again.
Rinko: You're right.....Riku....can I-
Staff: Nagae-sama!
Rinko was interrupted by a staff member as he called out to Riku.
Riku: How can I help you?
Staff: Actually, there are some people wanting to see you. They're waiting for you at the lobby.
Riku: The lobby? Okay, take me there. Rinko, it's best that you come with me.
Rinko nodded and the staff guided them to the lobby.
Tootsuki Resort Lobby - 8:25 A.M.
Rinko POV
I didn't expect that Chisato-san and the others had plans, so I decided to use this as a chance to ask Riku on a date. But my chance was wasted when the staff called Riku. And it seems that someone is looking for him and Riku asked me to come with him, so I agreed. He held my hand to make sure that I don't get lost as we head to the lobby.
And as we reached the lobby, someone was waving at Riku and I looked at Riku.....he had a face that can clearly show that he is annoyed.
Riku: What in the flat living fuck are you morons doing here.....Johan?
It was Johan-san and the rest of OG. I didn't expect that they would come here to Japan.
Johan: Come now Riku. We didn't come here to goof off. Here.
Johan-san gave Riku something and Riku read the contents and he was surprised.
Riku: Sanzaemon-dono invited you to come here to perform? But why?
Misha: That we don't know. We called him one time for further details and he said that he wanted a world level performance for some students that were having a training camp here.
Riku and I quickly understood and Riku's annoyance faded away and returned to his calm and composed manner.
Riku: I see...oh right. Rinko this is Mikhail Agatov or we call him Misha. He's the current captain of OG, he's the one that I substituted back in Stockholm.
Rinko: I see. I'm Shirokane Rinko. A pleasure to meet you Mikhail-san.
Misha: Pleasure's all mine. But you can call me Misha.
Yuragi: By the way, why are you here Riku?
Riku: Sanzaemon-dono gave me a voucher for an all expense paid stay here. And I invited 5 of my childhood friends here. And also grandfather gave me a week off so I basically have a lot of free time in my hands. By the way, where is Ammar?
bzm: The fucker caught a cold. Don't worry, it ain't that bad, medic says that he'll be fine in 3 days.
Riku: I see. So, where are you guys staying?
Johan: We're assigned at the 8th floor.
Riku: It's the same as us.....Rinko, you want to come with me?
Riku looked at and asked me if I want to come with him with Johan-san.
Rinko: Sure.
I joined Riku in taking Johan-san and the other members of OG to the 8th floor. we reached the room that was given to them, and as we went inside, it was similar to our room, but the difference is that the room is sound proof, meaning that they can practice for their performance.
Riku: So, I heard from the Red Bull rep that you got a lifetime contract too.
Johan: You too?
Riku: Yeah, I kinda signed it. And I plan on making a comeback soon, once I settled everything here.
Johan: I'm happy that your drive hasn't dimmed out yet.
Rinko: Ummm....if I may ask.....what are you going to perform here?
Johan: Well the truth is...we have no idea. But with Riku here, we can give them a recap of the finals right?
Me and Riku raised a brow to Johan-san's suggestion. Using the songs that they played to win the Future World Fes, not a bad idea.
Riku: A good idea....how about we add something.
Johan: You want to add something?
Riku: Yeah. I was planning to use this on my return to competitive, but since you guys are here, this'll make it more easier.
Riku took out his phone and opened a file and showed it to Johan-san.
Johan: Yuudachi.....that's the name of the song?
Riku: Yup. And we can make a quick practice of it. I have several things to do here, so time is limited. When will the performance start?
Johan: We can manage. We start tomorrow at three. They say that we'll be performing at their performance hall. And as for your instrument....good thing we brought this.
Johan took out a guitar from one of the cases which surprised Riku on seeing the guitar.
Riku: This is the guitar that I left at Portugal....you brought it here.....Rinko, you want to see how we practice?
I was shocked to hear Riku's offer. This is a chance that I cannot miss. To see how a real pro band practice is something that I have to keep an eye on. I might be able to help Yukina-san reach her goal further.....
Rinko: Are you sure you're okay with me watching?
Johan: Sure, we don't mind. I mean we're not keeping anything bad here right?
The boys nodded as they approve with me staying here to watch them practice. Misha-san offered me a seat as Riku and everyone else prepares in setting up. Several minutes later, they've finished setting up. Riku is at the center holding a guitar, on his left is Taiga-san also holding a guitar, on his right was Yuragi-san with a bass on hand. Behind them was Misha-san on drums and bzm-san on the keyboard and Johan-san is in front of them.
Johan: Alright boys, you got a copy of the song right? We start with the guitar solo first then bass, then we go for the drums, keyboard and once we familiarize it, we combine them with the vocals.
The way they practice is very different from what I expect. I continue to listen to get some future references for my band as well.
Riku: Artem, you got the lines right?
Yuragi-san only nodded as Riku looked at Taiga-san.
Riku: Good. Let's try doing this in one take.
Johan: Let's start.

Tōtsuki Resort Dining Hall - 12:00 NN
Riku's practice with the band ended in one take. I really couldn't believe that they actually pulled it off. The only read the music sheet jut once and they manage to do it on their first try...can Roselia even do that?.....I shook off my thoughts as I see Riku was happy with the result.
Since that they only used at least an hour and a half to practice, they got more free time than they expect. Johan-san and Riku were telling the events that happened on each side to pass the time. Johan-san even complimented me and Roselia for our performance back a few days age...that gave me a boost in confidence, and he even welcomed me to the Red Bull Family.
Right now we're at the dining hall as we have our lunch. We met with Chisato-san, Kaoru-san and Ran along the way looking very relaxed and refreshed. As to why I called Ran without honorifics is because there are two Ran's one being Mitake-san and the other one being Yakumo-san. Kokoro-chan followed soon after with a smile on her face, she even showed us a picture of her breaking the resort record of the fastest mountain climb, which she received a headpat from Riku.
The girls asked Riku on why Johan-san and OG are here, Riku explained them the details and understood it all, and they were excited for the performance that they'll be doing tonight.
We wondered why there was no menu given to us, one of the staff said that the students are in charge on cooking today's lunch and also added that this is also a part of their training camp.
The dish that was served to us was a seared rack of lamb, which never in my life I've eaten. Riku and Kokoro seemed to be very familiar with it though. We gave thanks and began eating....the lamb was delicious....
After we finished eating lunch, we decided to hang out at OG's room. Of course, the girls decided to take advantage of this so they asked Johan-san and the others for advice. When they heard that I got to watch Riku and OG practice personally, they slightly regretted that they had plans.
Then two hours later, one of the staff arrived in the room and called for Riku.
Staff: Nagae-sama. Chef Dojima has required your presence.
Riku: Can the girls come with me as well?
Staff: They can.
Riku only nodded as we follow the staff to where Riku is needed.
Riku POV – 2:00 P.M.
We followed the staff to where Gin-san is at and it looks like he brought me to a changing room. And as we enter, Gin-san is there alongside with Sanzaemon-dono and a little girl with green eyes, short purple hair with fringed, hime-styled bangs and part of her hair is tied up to resemble cat ears, which is very similar to Kasumi. She's wearing the standard chef's uniform and she is hugging a large purple stuffed cat doll.
Gin: Riku, you've come like I asked.
Sanzaemon: How's your stay here Riku?
Riku: It's been good for now. So is she my opponent today?
The girls looked at me as to question on why I am facing a little girl.
Sanzaemon: Yes, she is. Akanegakubou, introduce yourself.
Momo: Akanegakubo Momo. Tōtsuki Elite Ten's 4th seat. I heard from the director that you're an artisan like me. A shame that you're not in the culinary world like me.
Riku: I made my choices and you have yours. Regardless, let's have a good match.
I reached out my hand as I wait for Momo to shake my hand. Momo held her stuff toy with her left hand as she shook my hand.
Momo: Hm.....same to you.
Riku: Okay, what's the sitch?
Ran: Sitch?
Riku: A short term for "situation".
Gin: The students are at the hall right now, waiting for the last part of the program. Your fight with Akanegakubo-kun will come after that.
Riku: I see. And you brought me here because?
Gin: Your chef's uniform is in the locker. Change up and get ready.
I nodded as Sanzaemon-dono, Gin-san and Momo left the room.
Riku: I would ask that you girl leave the room too. I'm gonna change.....or you could stay and enjoy the view if you want.
The girls blushed deep red as they left the room in a hurry.
Riku: Now let's see what we have here.
I opened the locker that Gin-san pointed a while ago and what's inside was a light violet chef's uniform with black trimmings and a pair of black pants. I wore the uniform and I have one question...how the fuck did they know my size? And I noticed in the left breast of my uniform is the logo of OG along with the three Aegis on top of it.
As I finished changing, I head towards the main banquet hall where Gin-san and the others are waiting.
Gin: You finally arrived. And you look good in that uniform.
Riku: Thanks. How did you know my size in the first place?
Gin: Yuyuko told me.
I felt a tick in my head as I heard who the culprit is.....
Riku: I'm gonna add another month to her punishment.
Sanzaemon: Isn't that a bit too much Riku?
Riku: Tell that to the glutton that planted a recorder in my room.
The two elder men was surprised when they heard that, but I decided to drop it as I peeked through the window that the students are almost finished with their meal.
Riku: They're about to finish. Me and Momo better get ready.
Gin: Yes. The ingredients that you're going to use are already here. So get ready. This will be your Shokugeki debut.
I only nodded as Gin-san goes to the stage.
3rd POV
While the surviving students are satisfied from the meal that was cooked by the alumni, they saw Gin walking to the stage.
Gin: Now....there is one more thing to add before we end this training camp.
The students were curious about that and some of the students were shaking as they're starting to think that they're going to another task again.
Gin: No need to worry, this is not a task for you students.
Most of the students had a collective sigh when they heard that it wasn't a task, but when they heard Gin's next words, shook them to their core.
Gin: Instead...This will be a Shokugeki.
The students couldn't believe when they heard Shokugeki. Some of them couldn't calm down as there's a Shokugeki being held in the resort, and a sudden one at that.
Soma: Shokugeki? Oi Nakiri, do you know any of this?
Erina: No. This is the first time I've heard of a Shokugeki at the end of the training camp...what could be ojii-sama be thinking...
Gin: Now....you want to ask why is there a Shokugeki being held here right? Well to answer the question...it's better for him to explain it all to you.
Gin stepped back as Sanzaemon entered the stage and took the mic from Gin, shocking the students completely.
Erina/Alice: Ojii-sama!?!?
Takumi: Why is the director here?!
Megumi: Is the Shokugeki that important that the director is needed to be here?
Sanzaemon: *coughs*Now to answer to why I'm here.....is because I will be judging this Shokugeki personally and me alone.
Everyone was shocked that the director himself will be the only judge in this Shokugeki. Now the question in their mind is....who will be fighting.
Sanzaemon: And as for who will fight.....are these two.
At Sanzemon's signal, two lights opened up and showed two people. But two of the students were literally shocked.
Erina: No way...is that?
Alice: Riku....nii-sama?
Soma: He's a chef?
Erina: No.....he isn't.....he's a bonafide musician....but why.....Alice. Come with me.
Alice: I'm right with you.
Erina and Alice got up as they head to the stage.
Sanzaemon: The ones who will fight is Tōtsuki's own 4th seat, Akanegakubo Momo. And he will face none other than he heir of the Nagae Family, Nagae Riku.
Erina: Ojii-sama! What is the meaning of this?! Why is nii-sama there?!
Alice: Why is Riku-nii-sama involved in this?!
Murmurs are heard around the hall when they heard that Erina and Alice called Riku their brother, but the two Nakiri's ignored it as they were focused what's in front of them.
Sanzaemon: To answer that Erina.....normally I sent Riku here to give everyone here a reality check.
All of the students stopped murmuring as they heard that the director sent Riku to give them a reality check. They kept quiet as the director continued to speak.
Sanzaemon: That was the plan at first.....but I decided to use this to my advantage.
Riku: Sanzaemon-dono with all due respect...what are you planning right now? Depending on what you say...your relationship with the Celestial Families will not go well.....
Sanzaemon: You see. Ever since Tōtsuki was built, I have some regrets in my life....but there is one regret that I would never let go.....
Riku: And that is?
Sanzaemon: Failing in getting you into Tōtsuki.
Everyone was surprised from Sanzaemon's revelation. His biggest regret is that he failed to get Riku in the culinary world. Questions surrounded everyone, but the old man answered the questions as it became clear to them.
Sanzaemon: Your talent in baking is second to none to Akanegakubo.....no.....by now...your talent might've surpassed hers.
Momo who was behind Riku was shocked. She was confident in her skills as an artisan, but hearing that Riku, someone who hasn't committed to the culinary life, has surpassed her in her own game, hurt her pride.
Sanzaemon: When I first tried the pastries you made. It came to me that you would do great things if you were at Tōtsuki. You could've shook the culinary world to its core. I even decided to award you the second seat of the Elite Ten to due to your skills. And yet.....you turned it down.
Everyone's jaw dropped. They couldn't believe that Riku has what it takes to be the second seat yet he declined the offer. They were willing to sacrifice it all to get that privilege. Erina and Alice were beyond shocked, this was the first time they heard of this.
Sanzaemon: And that's is why.....I decided to host this Shokugeki...this is a Shokugeki that you cannot refuse.
Riku: From what I remember. To make a Shokugeki official, you have to put something on the line correct?
Sanzemon: Exactly. Here is my condition. If Akanegakubo wins. You are to retire completely from the music world and become a member of Tōtsuki.
Riku's eyes widened in shock, the same goes for his childhood friends. Riku retiring completely from music? That is something big. Riku hearing this was angry. Very angry.
Riku: Nakiri Sanzaemon....do you have any idea what you're thinking?
Rinko and the others who were at the back were starting to get worried.
Rinko: He's getting angry...
Ran: Saying one's full name is a sign of it.....
Chisato: What should we do? If it continues...this could go bad very fast.
Kokoro: Not yet...I see onii-chan very calm despite of this.
Kaoru: Let's just observe for now...
We go back to the stage and the atmosphere is intense.
Erina: Ojii-sama! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!?!
Alice: YOU CAN'T JUST MAKE RIKU-NII-SAMA DO THAT!! MUSIC IS HIS WHOLE LIFE!!!
Sanzemon: QUIET!!!
The two Nakiri's went quiet form their grandfather's shout, he looked at Riku who was still showing an angry expression as he closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
Sanzaemon: If you win....The Celestial Families will have the final say in all matters here in Tōtsuki effective after this Shokugeki. And the Elite ten will require the approval of at least half of the Celestial Families to have their work to be effective.
Every student's eyes were wide as saucers when Sanzaemon dropped the bomb. If Momo wins, Riku has to completely retire from music and witch to the culinary world. But if Riku wins, the Celestial Families will have full control of the school.
Takumi: So if the fourth seat loses...
Hisako: The Celestial Families will basically own Tōtsuki...
Soma: What in the world is happening?
Erina: Ojii-sama...are you serious?
Sanzaemon: I am. So Riku.....what's your answer?
Riku: You are aware of what's going to happen when I win right? Are you sure you still want this Shokugeki to happen? Because I won't hold back once it's official.
Sanzaemon only nodded as Riku sighed.
Riku: Very well, I accept.
Sanzaemon turned around to the students and proclaimed this without using a microphone.
Sanzaemon: WITH THIS, THE SHOKUGEKI IS OFFICIAL!! AKANEGAKUBO MOMO VS NAGAE RIKU!! IF AKANEGAKUBO WINS, RIKU WILL HAVE TO RETIRE FROM THE MUSIC WORLD COMPLETELY AND COMMITS HIMSELF TO THE CULINARY WORLD!! AND IF RIKU WINS, THE CELESTIAL FAMILIES WILL HAVE THE FINAL SAY IN ALL MATTERS HERE IN TŌTSUKI EFFECTIVE AFTER THIS SHOKUGEKI!! I NAKIRI SANZAEMON, DIRECTOR OF TŌTSUKI ACADEMY AND THE SURVIVING FIRST YEAR STUDENTS WILL ACT AS WITNESSES TO THIS!!
To Sanzaemon's words, the curtains behind them opened and behind them were two baking stations, equipped with the best equipment used for baking. The two bakers looked at their stations and went to their places.
Sanzaemon: The theme of this Shokugeki is Animal Bread!!! You two have to put your creativity skills to the maximum, as I will not only judge the overall taste, but also the design of the animal you create! You have two hours to create your bread. Are you two ready?
Momo: I don't care who or what you are. But I will beat you nonetheless.
Riku: Calamity will soon befall you Akanegakubo Momo...I hope you've come prepared.
Everyone was confused to Riku words, but for Rinko who was in the backstage gasped at Riku's words.
Rinko: Riku...
Kaoru: What's the matter, dear Rinko?
Rinko: Those words...
Ran: What about it?
Rinko: He's not gonna hold back.....the one time he said those words was when we played at NFO...it was him against us Roselia...he showed us no mercy and he was serious when he said those words...even though he gave us a handicap at that time...
The girls started to worry not for Riku, but for Momo. If what Rinko said was true, she's in a lot of trouble.
Sanzaemon officially starts the Shokugeki and Riku and Momo gets ready.
Sanzaemon: Then let the Shokugeki.......BEGIN!!!!
