Chapter 172: A Surge of Magic (1)

Their walk back to the inner keep was silent. They had each spoken their turns, expressed their fears when Aether leapt off the wall to seal the rifts. They were surprised to see him needing help, and that surprise led to this awkward silence.

Aether didn't mind the silence, however awkward it may be. He needed some time to think. Some time to reassess his strength, and the threat they were facing.

The conclusion he arrived was not exactly a pleasant one.

"Things will start getting more dangerous." He said as they climbed the stairs to Iris' quarters. "These surges are getting more and more common. Both here and the world above, though those are not nearly strong enough to harm a trained mage, I am sure." 

Freya drew a sharp breath. "How can you know that?" She asked with a wary expression.
