Chapter 14: Medium Mech Division
After five months of only harsh physical and discipline trainings, the new trainees finally have some other basic lessons. They still have their previous trainings though, just with less intensity, and they have theory lessons in the afternoon while they have entire evening for rest and self-learning
Theory lessons are important as the instructors repeatedly remind them. Piloting mechs is not as simple as sitting in the cockpit and unload all weapons as impunity as one like. Piloting mechs require more than that. How to fully master your mech, how to fully understand your sensor reading, how much force are needed and where to swing your melee weapons for maximize output, calculating incoming enemies trajectory and where to fire for maximize damage, etcetera.
Instincts can only get one so far, a good pilot would need adequate knowledge in mathematical, physic, mechanic and other fields of science. The more complex the mechs, the more knowledge a pilot needed to control them. Such is why the disparities in strength between 1st rate mechs and 2nd rate mechs, 2nd rate mechs and 3rd rate mechs as well as the skills of their pilots grow even farther apart with each new mech generations.

"For the past week we have been giving you kids introduction to mechs. You should remember this well, we don't become mech pilot just because you the aptitude to become one."

"A typical schools would let you kids play around with some arch types in all weight classes in your early years and you will chose you specialization when you are ready for more advanced lessons."
"At this school we think that is a waste of time. You should already know our relationship with the 4th Auxilia Hunter Division of our Mech Corp, so we will teach and train you according to the 4th's Doctrine."
"Not many know this, but the 4th is the only Division that only use medium weight class mech, so they also know as "Medium Mech Division" by the Mech Corp's Quartermasters and Mech Designers. There are six types of mechs the 4th are using, they are offensive knight, swordman, marauder, range skirmisher, cannoneer and sniper."
"Why they only use medium mechs is something you don't need to know for now. But what that mean is at this school we will only teach you about medium mechs and those six types mentioned before."
"In your first and second years you will have virtual training with our rifleman and swordman training mechs. You will start training with the real ones in you third and forth year."
"Hehe, the real funs will start in your fifth year, this is something that no other schools can give you. You will be allowed to train with actual military mechs, albeit only previous gens mechs of the 4th. In your seventh year, we will let you train with current gen mechs which is to be decommissioned at that time."
"Great isn't it, you if decide to enlist with the 4th, which is the goal of most of you here, then you can fit right into their ranks."
The trainees all become excited at this point. True to the instructor's word, any other pilot schools even the 2nd rate ones would alway prize safety first. They will only let their trainees train with simple training mechs which adhere to many safety standards.
The use of combat ready mechs not to mention military mechs would be seen as irresponsible and may cause uncontrollable damages and badly affect the school's reputation.
The Auxilia Pilot school did get in many troubles before. They are the only pilot school with such high injury cases due to training and sometime even casualties. Many organizations both in public and private sectors filed their complaints and tried to shut the school down.
As results speak for itself, graduates from Auxilia Pilot school are among the best discipline and combat ready recruits so as one of the organizations profited from this, the Mech Corp finally stepped in and squashed all opposite voices.
The 4th is the side that profited the most though. Due to the school's approach, the 4th steadily gain a stable flow of combat ready medium mech specialists and readily indoctrinated to their martial traditions. The 4th also periodically let the soon to graduate trainees join them on their combat drills or pirate hunting missions which proven to improve trainees affection to them.
Auxilia Pilot School has two models of training mechs and come in three variants each. They were specifically designed by mech designers of the 4th as in-house commissions jobs.
The Tiger Cub AHTM-0078-TC1 is a simple and robust rifleman mech with stable aiming assist which help trainees quickly get used to both kinetic and energy rifles. Even though mechs using kinetic and energy rifles have different requirement and pilots would need different skill sets, the training rifles came with this model are simple enough for training without much deviation.
The Tiger Cub AHTM-0078-TC-K is a variant that specialized to use kinetic rifles, it has stronger and more stable arms that can better handle recoil, while the Tiger Cub AHTM-0078-TC-M has more heatsink and battery to sustain its lase rifles. Trainees usually train with the AHTM-0078-TC1 model in their third year and chose one of the other two for specialized training in their forth year.
The melee mechs are different though, the trainees would start their specialized training as soon as their second year with virtual mechs and train with real models from their third year. With the Lion Cub AHTM-0136-LCS swordman mech as the base model which use a standard training sword, mech designers of the 4th also designed additional offensive knight and a great sword using variants.
'Interesting choices of training mechs, it's like they are preparing us to become shock troops. But the 4th Division really going all out to support this school. From what i knew, no one else would train new potentates like this.'
"Instructor, can I ask something? Sir!"
"You are Kira Larkinson? Ask then."
"Can we have these mechs designs and licenses on our Iron Spirits accounts? I want to do self training with them. Sir!"
"That's a No! All of our training mechs are in-house designs reserved for our school only. You can only train with them on our virtual training suit. Why do you want their designs too?"
"I want to have deeper understanding about our training mechs. Sir! I believe I can get better results if I can fully understand about my mechs strength and weakness. Sir!"
"Hmmm, that is good attitude, but mech pilots don't need to know that much about mech designs. But since you want to, if you have good results in your first and second year we will let you take part in our mech maintenance works. Our mech technicians will let you know more about their designs."
"Thank you! Sir"
'Too bad I can't get their designs now, the designs i was granted by the Ainsworth are too advanced for me at the moment so I hope I could start with these simple training mechs.'
'Well, guess I still have to start with Iron Spirit one star mechs.'
