Chapter 19: Short Goodbyes

Velios and Yotsuya chose a seat by the wall in the restaurant, but the screaming from the other customers had stopped. They became so scared from the pressure that they ran right out while leaving plates upon plates of food behind them. Yotsuya didn't want to admit that he also was scared shitless. To him it felt exactly as it did on the night where he lost it all. He didn't want to speak because he knew that he would start to stutter like crazy and therefore wouldn't be able to say a single word properly. If he could run away, he probably also would if he had not put the amount of trust in Velios as he did. The two of them were sitting, facing each other as they patientely waited for the food to come. "Either way, I see this as a win. Because if the chef had accepted my initial offer, I would have had to pay." Yotsuya twitched at the sudden sentence. Looking back up, he saw the friendly face that he had seen when they first met and managed to calm himself down. "Why would it be a problem to pay for the food? The food here is fairly cheap and you would only need to complete a single or two of the lowest ranked commissions to earn the money. I mean, they took my money away from me but still."

Velios became rather quiet after hearing that. Yotsuya watched him as Velios looked all over the room, the walls, the floor and even up at the roof. "Uhm, uhm, could you tell me more about yourself Yotsuya?" Yotsuya stared in confusion. "Are you deliberately trying to change the topic?" But Velios ignored that. "No, no. I am just curious as to what kind of person you are. That's a normal thing to ask in a conversation with somebody you just met, right?" Velios became fidgety and even started sweating as he continued speaking. Okay, Velios, focus. You just got to remember what you learnt in that book about commucation and influence through speech, you got this. "Why interested in it now all of a sudden?" Velios put on his best act to sound as natural as possible. "Knowing where other people in your surrounding come from is an important way to understand and empathize with them. I just thought that it would create a bond between us. But if your not up for it, I can tell you about the details of what killed your friends in exchange for your backstory and all of the knowledge you have of the game and what you know so far. I doubt someone as nice and sincere as you would answer with a no in such an opportunity for information." Seeing as Velios only did this to avoid the topic of what he has been doing and the amount of money he has, it was a little bit excessive but it alteast worked to change the topic.

The food was served without a word and the chef left as quickly. He really didn't want anything more to do with them and after Velios scared him it got even worse. It was like an actual monster stood right infront of him. An insanely powerful one, ready to kill everybody in its sight. The food was hot and there was a massive amount of it. Things like pasta, different meats, curry, rice bowls, burgers and different dishes were scattered across the table and they would get to eat all of it for free. Without a word, Velios had begun eating and the even hungrier Yotsuya looked at him as if he was the one who hadn't eaten for weeks. If Yotsuya continued to stare, the food would have been gone so he decided to just eat as much as he could. The two of them barely used the cuttlary as they ate most of it with their bare hands. With the way they were eating, the food would be gone in just under five minutes. "Hey chef! Bring us more food!" Velios knew that this was going to take a while either way and he needed a ton of energy to support his regeneration and his other skills. The chef was working his ass off in the kitchen and all of the staff had to help him. As soon as one dish was finished, they got it to the table as fast as possible where it would get eaten. The dirty plates would get retrieved and washed as the cycle would continue from step one.

About forty minutes later, the staff where tired beyond belief and Velios and Yotsuya had eaten so much food that it probably could feed a small village for weeks. They just looked at each other before laughing hysterically about what they had just done. "I gotta thank you for this. I would never had imagined that I would live to see another day even." Velios smiled back as the only response but it was enough for Yotsuya to smile back. Both of them slowly got up from their seats before walking straight through the door as if nothing had happened and as if everything was completely normal. They continued to talk while walking around the city as if everything was normal. They talked about going back to the gate of the city as their final destination together and after a not so long time, they were there. At the exact same place where the two of them had met. "Want to talk a little bit more, Velios?" Velios turned to Yotsuya with a slight smile on his face. "I think we have talked enough, Yotsuya. I'll be back in the city eventually, days or weeks, I'll promise to come back either way. What you do is up to you from now on. Redeem yourself."

Yotsuya looked towards Velios, who had an eager look on his face. As if there was something he just had to do. Something he had to achieve, something to complete. Yotsuya looked at Velios with admeration, as if he was a hero who was going out to save people. But in reality it was not like that. Velios was actually only eager to face the challenge he had set himself that he still hadn't completed. The 10,000 handstand pushups that he still had to complete in a row was still waiting for Velios. It didn't matter that he was really close. It was either finished or not finished and that was a problem according to Velios. "If I do not come back, or if we do not met again, I want to tell you this. I have not given you this chance so that you can waste it. Make sure to become strong. Be sure to survive and train hard. Make me proud of the decision I made today." Velios little speech made Yotsuya shed a small tear, but before he could reply back or even say goodbye, Velios had already vanished far away into the forest.
