Chapter 13: The Forest Incident

Velios immediately rushed out of the room. He only knew the general direction and it seemed like he couldn't hold his hightened senses much longer and it didn't help that he started panicking either. Thanks to his previous training, Velios was extremely fast and made it to the gate within seconds but he no longer had any idea where he was going. The screaming had momentarily stopped and at this point Velios just had to guess which way it was with the information he had so he just went for it. He ran into the forest and kept on going as fast as he could forwards, to the sides and trying to either see or hear if he was close enough. Fortunately for Velios, it wouldn't take long for him to find them. "Lia, are you okay-" The sentence was barely finished as Velios arrived. Velios could only move his eyes around, it was way too much to take in all at once. What Velios witnessed was not the best site to behold.

The beautiful moonlit night sky shone through the leaves of the trees down onto the ground showing what was otherwise not seeable. The whole place had turned into a bloodbath, there were a total of four corpses spread out in the nearby area, everyone of them ripped into almost unrecognizable chunks of blood and meat and the only thing to tell them apart were some of their distinctive facial features and their clothes. Because of all the blood, the entire place shined red when the moonlight hit and even though the trees were covered in liters of blood, the trees themselves were still completely untouched. Velios after what felt like an eternity managed to turn his head around just the tiniest amount, he had seen the only person which he had not seen in multiple pieces yet. That person was Lia, sitting there in the distance. With, another person? "Help me... Somebody, anybody..." Velios' eyes widened when he had heard those almost silent words. "Oh, and look what we have here. Another one of those useless adventurers. Might you be friends with these bunch? I guess losers sure do group around." The unknown man was laughing hysterically after saying that, the laugh was that of a real psychopath. Velios knew that since he had experience with psychopaths and their behavior in the old world. But none of them came close to this one. Something was immediately noticed but Velios couldn't pinpoint what exactly it was.

As if the situation wasn't dire enough, when Lia turned around to look at who it was, Velios was shocked at what he saw. He thought that at least Lia was safe and that everything was done. But he didn't know how he hadn't realized it sooner. This guy, was never a person. He's a monster. Velios instantly came in with a punch to the gut following it up with a kick into the body making the monster fly straight into the nearest tree, almost breaking it clean. "You seem proud of your strengths, but so far you haven't done anything to save a single one of them!" The monster stood up again and its left arm was completely crooked. The monster suddenly disappeared, appearing behind Velios just to disappear again. It was incredibly fast and it was near impossible to predict where it was going next. A punch to the side, a kick to the leg and then another kick aiming for the head that Velios barely dodged. This continued as Velios couldn't do much as he was outmatched in speed and was barely dodging the attacks. A kick was thrown onto Velios' left side but he managed to catch it. Before the monster had any time to react, Velios took as tight a grip as possible around the leg and quickly twisted it, dislocating and crushing the entire left leg. Thinking the rest of the fight would be easy, he stopped attacking but that gave the monster time. The flesh around the dislocation was moving inside the leg, putting itself together. In a mere second, the completely broken leg was fully healed as if nothing ever happened.

The next couple of seconds following the healing was full of action. Velios started the attack and they kept going at each other, dodging hits and exchanging them over and over. Pain was something that didn't seem to affect them both, Velios simply didn't care and the monster was regenerating itself after every landed hit. Velios jumped up in the air and landed a kick right at the side of the monster's face before spinning around in the air and kicking it again. The monster's neck had spun around two full circles but it was only a little shocked. The head automatically spun around the other way and it was healed within no time. Velios had in very short time both gotten stronger and more adept to his opponents fighting style and they continued fighting. Not long after, Velios had made a mistake, he went in for a high kick but it got immediately blocked and the monster countered in no time, hitting Velios with a powerful punch aimed at the side of his body. Velios felt the hits impact right through the body, at least a couple of ribs were broken if not more. Velios backed away, holding his hand on the right side of his body in pain. He tried to stand up but he couldn't, Velios started spitting out blood and it seemed like the tables had turned for the worse. As Velios tried to stand yet again, he felt a sharp pain going through his chest.

Blood rushed out of Velios' body, the monster's arm had fully penetratedand went through Velios' chest area when he was caught off guard. Small amounts of blood ran out of his mouth and more so when he started coughing. The monster slowly dragged out its arm out of Velios body and it was covered in blood from hand all the way to the elbow. Velios eyes became more lifeless by the second as he collapsed to the ground face down. His blood splattered around him when he hit the ground and the monster stood there over his body with a smile on his face. "Lowly humans really do think they stand a chance. By all means, he was a strong one but he was far too weak to even protect himself. Wish I could have learnt his name, but I guess that's too late now."

Lia had barely escaped thanks to the appearance of Velios but she was gravely injured and could barely move. Her head was spinning around and she didn't even know the way back to the city. "I hope Velios is okay." She didn't think it was true for a second but all she wanted was for it to be true. She knew that Velios was strong but she also witnessed what that monster was capable of. She couldn't move and there was no point in it since she didn't know the way back to the city. "Hello there, looking for a friend?" Lia got goosebumps all over her body and she started profusely sweating as soon as she recognised the voice. "You... You killed them, all of them!" The humanlike monster's smile became replaced with a confused face. "Now why do you say that? That's not a nice thing to say, young lady." Lia tried to back away but she was met with a tree, her face was filled with different emotions. Mainly being one of fear. "What... what did you do to Velios? What happened to him?" The smile had returned, it was pure evil. "Oh, is that the name of the guy who came and tried to save you?" The monster crouched down and stared right into Lia's eyes, smiling. "Your friend, Velios, is dead."
