Chapter 6: Chapter 6-Blood Red Alert
The 3 people on the school board had arrived along with Mu Ning Xue's father Mu Zhou Yun whose relationship was with Itachi could be called unpleasant to say the least. Especially after the incident at the magic release test where he was the quickest one able to cast magic.
Seeing his talent Mu Zhuo Yun immediately offered spirit tools and money to try to rope him into the family trying to buy him over saying something like 'we shouldn't dwell on the past. Come over to our family compound where we can supply you with fire tools to quickly advance your cultivation'. It was very comical to Itachi that Mu Zhuo Yun expected him to care for their shitty tools.
Itachi tired of his two faced nature pretty much told him to fuck off much to the shock of the surrounding students and teachers, and it took the restraining of the principal and another school board member to keep the school chairman from attacking the student.
As much as he wanted to kick Itachi out of the school, the others wouldn't let him since after all, Itachi was looking to be the most talented freshman in the school by a good bit with Mu Bai taking another week and a half to cast ice magic
Watching Mu Zhuo Yun's frowning face as he walked over with the others brought a smirk to Itachi's face. I guess throwing his beloved daughter into a wall didn't help his opinion of me either Itachi thought to himself.
He is most likely mad that she did not win the competition. The principal walked up with a bright smile on his face before saying "Congratulations Mo Fan. You are the first freshman to ever win the end of the year festival in the history of our school.
Your talent is shocking already bringing your element to the third level of novice tier at your young age. As victor you win a pass for three days to cultivate in the Holy spring starting tommorow.
There is also a secret gift " he said reaching into into a large bag he had carried over. "every year we award the strongest highschool mage a spirit tool useful to them in battle.
Right now, we have two options for you. One is this defensive tool called the bone scythe shield. After it is spiritually bound you can call it out with a thought to defend against destructive magic. It is very strong and it can even block a few strikes of high tier magic before running out of energy.
The other is a the blood tabi boots. This was bought in one of the major cities for a high price and it gives the user explosive mobility along with elementaly infused kicks by supplying magic to the tool.
Similar to what you did in your match earlier except it will be stronger with the ability to burn even hotter as you won't have to worry about controling it as much to prevent burning your clothes.
Itachi instantly knew what he needed most. Whats the point of having a defensive tool when you never plan to get hit? Besides combining the blood tabi boots along with his already destructive kicks would be a deadly combo.
He could infuse fire or lightning magic choosing if he wants his kicks to have a paralysis or a burn effect. Even against very advanced magic the increased agility would help him dodge attacks as he was still waiting for space high tier to give him the ability to teleport around instantly dodging even the most destructive attacks.
After making his pick he shook hands with all 4 of them taking extreme pleasure watching Mu Zhuo Yun try and fail to crush his hand, I guess to intimidate him? He said goodbye to Mu Ning Xue who was a good sport congratulating him over winning as they shook hands.
They both had complicated looks in their eyes which was not surprising considering the awkward situation between the two of them as the previous best friends who still had some feelings for each other struggled to make up.
One obvious barrier was the glaring overprotective dad standing behind him who did not look happy at his daughter and Itachi conversing.
Another barrier was Itachi's own difficulty forgiving her as she did nothing he was aware of to make life easier for his dad who was treated almost as low as a slave after the incident between them.
Not to mention the fact that she had distanced herself after the incident acting cold and aloof which had hurt him a good deal. At the time since they had gone from best friends to almost complete strangers in a day.
'Whatever' he thought I will at least be nice. "the end of the year, I'm going to graduate early. Im going to go to college next as I'm already a level high enough to apply.
You should be starting up too since you already have mid tier ice magic. Maybe we will meet again at the university, I guess I will see you around" he said in cordially"
Surprised that he seemed to be less cold, she responded "yeah, I hope to see you there, but next time we fight I will be the one to win" she said with a challenging look. Deciding not to burst her bubble he nodded responding with a simple "we'll" see before walking off.
Anyway finishing up the festival he returned home preparing to visit the underground holy spring the next day. Greeting his loving sister with a hug Itachi told his sister and father all about him winning the competition as his father threatened to spill tears of joy over his sons accomplishments
Waking up early the next morning he said goodbye to his family, and he jogged the few miles up to the entrance to the underround springwhich was right under the tallest building in Bo City the silver commerce building.
Bo city was surrounded by mountaneous terrain with stone fortresses along the major valleys to keep out monsters. The mountains almost acted as a natural barrier keeping out most monsters out with the others being killed by the border mages in the military.
Most of the surrounding area is labeled green for it being clear of monsters while the rest is labeled white which means a few weak wandering monsters are around with no known monster nests or hordes.
The nearest danger area was over 10 miles away with a nest of around 50 one eyed wolfs which are around strong minion ranked presided over by a couple of Great warrior ranked storm wolves which are quite a force to be reckoned with.
Even if they were strong they were closely monitored and the wolf species while deadly was not as bloodthirsty as other monsters and would rarely bother entering a city.
The rest of the surrounding area is just a multitude of different random monsters with minion ranked being the most common. Every once and while you will get a passing warrior ranked monster, but they are quite uncommon.
Even rarer is a commander rank monster. While they may be more common in purple or even black ranked areas such as the gobi desert or in the ocean, they are very rare in near cities as they are strictly monitored by many high and sometimes even super tier mages.
While Bo city may be more secluded than other cities it is still near the most developed areas of china which almost forms a barrier for the especially strong magic beasts. Most often you would have to go deep into the countryside away from civilisation to start encountering varying monster nests including traveling monster hordes.
Even if Bo city was relatively weaker than other cities, it still had a few hightier mages including the especially strong Zhan Kong who held off the commander ranked winged wolf saving many lives.
Arriving at the heaviliy guarded entrance Mo Fan showed them the badge he got for winning the competition, and he was allowed entry through the door down the staircase entering what seemed to be a heavily modernised cave.
He was brought to an attendant who explained everything about the spring before leading him into the special chamber. Opening the stones doors he made his way down the stone walkway to the island in the middle of the spring surrounded by the energy rich springwater where he would be cultivating.
As he stepped in he could instantly feel the increased amount of spiritual energy making him understand why people desired to cultivate here so much.
Sitting down in the middle with some food and water they left behind he prepared to breakthrough in his elements.
First came fire as he focused on the surging red stardust of his fire element which had already been showing signs of breaking through ever since yesterday after prolonged use in the tournament sped up the cultivation speed. After a few hours the fire energy finally calmed down revealing the fire nebula along with its accompanying spirit both evolving.
The fire stardust had condensed into a starcloud rich with energy incomparable to its previous state. 42 new stars appeared adding along the original 7. The accompanying spirit had evolved into a soul grade fire seed which is much purer than the previous form having an even larger increase in attack power.
Spending the rest of the day learning how to successfully control the stars Itachi could soon perfectly cast the mid tier fire magic fiery fists.
After that he spent the next day advancing his spatial magic with it reaching mid-tier as well as he spent time perfecting his control over the element. After breaking into mid tier he could currently decrease or increase the gravity up to ten times on himself or on other things.
With his current physical strength he could jump about 4 meters into the air. Maybe 6 if he used his new magic tool the blood tabi boots, but if he used deacrease gravity on himself he could almost glide in the air jumping up 30 meters to the top of the ceiling before pushing back down landing almost gently with the effects of his reduced gravity.
Reducing gravity on himself would greatly increase his mobility moving around long distances without even having to touch the ground. Another option was suddenly increasing gravity 10 times the moment before a kick increasing the strength of it many times over.
This would be quite demanding though, and to prevent breakings on landing he would need to wear his Blood tabi boots to strengthen his legs. Putting space magic aside, he spent the rest of his last day bringing up his fire and lightning magic to mid tier level 2. After reaching that level however he was surprised at how much the cultivation speed had slowed down
While level two had taken a day it quickly lost effectiveness as he estimated even if he cultivated in here it would take a couple weeks, it would still be quite difficult to bring them to level three. The time needed to jump ranks would only get longer from here out, so he might as well make the best of it.
Knowing that monsters would soon invade he prepared himself to his peak fully ready for the situation. His soul grade seeds already had a 6 times multiplier while both lightning and fire showed signs of awakening a domain as he could feel an increase in the surrounding energy corresponding to either element in the area.
Suddenly the chamber door opened as the entire mountain shook. Running inside the vice captain Lin Yuxin along with a few other surviving members of the holy springs guard ran inside passing by the dead bodies of their comrades killed by the demi warrior ranked colossal blood rats swarming the buildling before quickly closing the door.
Even though the rats were 30 meters away in a frightening show off speed one slammed hard into the into the solid rock door seconds after they made it inside causing a loud echo throughout the large cave. Already knowing this was the work of the black Vatican he was not surprised when she sucked away the whole underground spring fitting it all inside a tiny bottle with a cool display of magic.
Turning to face him thinking he was confused she went into a whole speech about how the city was in blood level alert after a large number of monsters broke through the defenses killing many mages, and it was all due to the work of the black Vatican who were targeting the spring water. Monsters were rushing into the city especially through the sewers as they popped up in random locations around the city.
Although he wanted to try to warn people early no one would have believed him, so his time was better spent preparing himself to take out as many monsters as possible.
The Vice Captain handed him the vial of the Holy Spring water explaining that the Black Vatican would not expect a student such as him to have the Holy Spring water and that they could bring him time to escape with the vial preventing this dark organization from achieving its goal.
The small group emerged from the hidden pathway staring into the gray sky filled with a yellow colored rain that was a special product made by the black Vatican to attract monsters along with sending them into a frenzy. Looking up Itachi found what he was looking for. On the tallest building stood a pitch black wolf with dark wings. Howling into the air it's roar shook the city as hundreds of answering howls responded in kind.
This was the commander ranked darkwing wolf a powerhouse who was a bonafide commander level capable of commanding thousands of weaker beasts with its roar alone.
Despite Itachi's confidence in his strength, he couldn't help but frightfully gaze at this beast as it was the strongest monster he had ever faced and all his natural instincts warned him of danger about the idea of fighting this deadly monster whose intelligence neared that of humans.
It was one thing to watch an anime showing mages fighting deadly monsters, butits another when you come face to face with an especially powerful monster such as this one no matter how confident you are.
While his soul grade seeds could multiply his damage a good bit, he still did not think he would be capable of fighting this beast at Using his mid tier ranked 2 when it would take a couple strong high tier mages to even make the beast retreat.
Seeing the red dyed water pouring down the street even if he prepared himself beforehand it was still a scary sight. This was human blood from the probable hundreds of humans who were killed.
He had convinced xin xia to skip her field trip so he was not too worried about her and his father's safety. Luckily enough, their house was right near the safe zone at the farthest from the monster attacks. There should be a high number of mid tier mages as well as the strong high tier mage Zhan Kong who was able to even fight off the strong darkwing wolf.
Currently his strength was not enough so he decided he needed to kill enough servant and warrior ranked beasts to upgrade the rest of his 42 stars for lightning and fire, so his mid tier magic would be twice as strong just the same as his novice magic. It would also be helpful if he got 14 warrior souls to upgrade his novice tier magic for lightning and fire both to level 5 making the total strength increase from the levels x4 not including his op soul grade seed.
Part of his wish was the lil loach pendant having a better chance of absorbing souls than it did in the original. In the original, most of the time the mc would get a soul fragment which would require multiple of before it would be fused together into a complete beast soul by the Lil Loach pendant.
Itachi on the other hand had a higher chance of a getting beast soul from a killing a monster than a fragment, so the number of souls he gained was ony a bit smaller than the number of the monsters he killed.
His space element was probably enough to match the Darkwing Wolf as he had just broken through the fourth spiritual attainment barrier making his previous abilities even stronger.
He hadn't come unprepared and he had many stainless steel spears and knives stores in his dimensional space that he could call out at any time before manipulating them with his telekinesis.
The space element was known for its unlimited potential for a reason. If your control was high enough, it was pretty much unstoppable with many different possibleuses. The light novel didn't do a well enough job of showing how powerful this extremely rare element was. It was often used as a blunt force skill such as trying to crush or throw the monster around when it had so much potential.
Combining it with the use of weapons can make it a destructive force. While steel spears would probably fend off most commanders if he had strong enough spiritual levels to propel it, it would be less effective against higher ranked commanders and especially monarchs due to the strong defenses of these creatures that would resist the sharp metal spears that would have neither the sharpness nor propulsion required to stab through its skin.
It was still not to be underestimated though as his spiritual barrier level increased this simple space skill would gain more and more velocity and power. It's low power cost made him capable of slaughtering thousands of beasts without tiring.
To do any damage to monsters as strong as evolving commanders leading into the monarch rank he would have to target weak points such as the eyes or mouth to even pierce its skin with his steel spears.
He would have to find sharper weapons later on that were forged better with stronger materials to take these on combined with a higher spiritual level allowing him to shoot off spears harder with a quicker speed.
One weapon he could use was his that would easily slice through commander ranked defenses was his Grimfrost Naginata which would be able to cut through its high defenses. His arrows
Lin Yuxin left after explaining her plan to lure the Black Vatican members away before warning him to be careful. Turning down an alley the first thing he did was drink the spring water.
When it was compressed like that he could quickly drink the whole thing. This would have good effects on his body including quicker cultivation speeds combined with a strengthening his body.
Later if questioned he would use the same excuse as in the original that he drank it to prevent Black Vatican members from laying their hands on it. They would be happy that at least they prevented the Black Vatican from getting their hands on their goal.
Deciding to return to the school while hiding hid identiy to rescue most of the students he hid his face while decreasing gravity on himself as he jumped up to the rooftops as he dashed across them.
Every time he passed a servant ranked monster he would fry it with his low tier magic enhanced by both the star upgrade and the soul seed reaching a staggering 12x multiplier on the element making his low tier magic already comparable and even a little stronger to normal mid tier magic.
While this may seem overpowered now, gaps between ranks only get larger, and the same power increase in super tier may not even be enough to cross the gap of 1 rank. Not to mention the opponent may have the same advantage as you which makes your advantage null.
Enjoying the feeling of near weightlessness Itachi ran across the roofs as he killed many different minion ranked One Eyed Wolves as well as the weaker Cycloped Rats that only took tier 1 magic with the added affects to destroy it.
Getting closer to the school he finally reached 84 minion ranked monsters as he pulled back his hand that had cast Intermediate second level lightning magic: Thunderbolt Yaksha which due to the effect from his soul grade seed instead of splitting into 5 bolts it split into 20 strong dark violet bolts which proceeded to decimate the small group of one eyed wolves.
A warrior ranked Three Eyed Magic Wolf nearby noticed this. Seeing the small figure of Itachi it snarled and leapt forward reacing out to bite him at a very quick speed.
Unflustered Itachi opened his dimensional space as he made a light flicking motion with his hand as a solid steel spear shot out of empty air next to Itachi impaling deeply through the roof of the open wolf's mouth piercing through to the brain behind it.
Stunned at this sudden fatal blow the wolf slowly collapsed as all life faded from its eyes. Itachi then prepared to absorb the souls, so his mid tier magic could undergo a 2x damage increase that would surely be helpful for the upcomoming fight. Opening into an abandoned house he locked the door figuring it was better than being on the street and he began to strengthen his stars...

Dato Another really long chapter ~3500 words covering part of the Bo city incident. I could probably split this chapter in half so tell me if I should keep it this long or split it into parts. As always comment on things I can do better to improve this fic. Overall I'm quite happy with this chapter. I also went back and rewrote a few scenes I felt were poorly written or explained. Peace out and I will update again as soon as I can.
