Chapter 2: A Dream
Alex opened his eyes, the twinkling stars shining down upon him. His thoughts began to roam, "Where am I?". A wolf came out from the tree line surrounding the field he lay in. Alex backed up, scrambling to his feet before running the other direction.
The wolf was close behind him, its panting getting closer and closer, that's when it went to sh#t. A tree branch from overhead collided with Alex's face, sending him skidding to the dirt. It pounced on him, digging its claws into his chest. Then it just poofed. Almost as if dissipating into the stars, and then he woke up.
He muttered to himself, "Well that was weird". Alex rushed to get dressed, he'd be late for school, throwing on some clothes that weren't too dirty. He ran into the bathroom, his black hair messily covered his face, it was all floofy and constantly annoyed him. At least he had relatively nice blue eyes, he thought he was handsome at least. Brushing his teeth, he ran down to the kitchen, a sweet voice greeted him.
"Hey bubs, how're you feeling today? Remember to grab some breakfast.". He nodded and gave his mother a kiss, being verbal to people was difficult for Alex, they weirded him out. His mother made him a pop tart and he caught the bus; her Mana was one to conjure food, so she made quite a good amount of money for them.
The bus was packed, as usual, luckily for him though there was a ward stopping all Mana being used that is placed on all public transport. He sat by himself and whispered the same words he always does every morning. "Menu". A screen only visible to him was displayed.

He sighed back down into his seat, same thing as always. "Quest". He felt like making himself a little more sad.

"Yeah, like that's ever going to happen". He closed his eyes, the wolf was there, creeping into his mind, its image felt so familiar. Its body dissipated and absorbed into his mind, he felt weird, then a notification appeared.

"Menu, activate menu", his mind was racing, it couldn't be.

He sat there, in absolute awe and shock. But then a thought entered his head. "What the heck is Mimic?", he'd never heard of that Mana before. More importantly though, how? The doctors said when he was born, his body would never be possible of holding Mana, guess the doctors must've been wrong.
It had to have something with the wolf and that weird field, and what the heck is with this whole "Absorbent Armor", least it sounds useful. The bus stopped moving, time for the place he dreaded, the place that taunted him for having no Mana for 10 years, maybe today would be better than usual.
