Chapter 49: 49. New Class
With Yuji's introduction, the jounin begins the class.
Yuji concentrates on the lecture. The final year lecture doesn't include basic skills like arithmetic and geography. The lectures are about intel gathering, information transfer, concealment, detection, tracking, and other such skills. A theoretical lesson was held first, followed by a practical class where the knowledge was put to the test.
'Almost all of these skills are similar to what I learned from the organization except for the parts that involve the sensors.'
Yuji continue to listen to the lecture,
[A trained tracker can locate, identify, pursue, and interpret the traces or signs to form a reasonably accurate conclusion based on the evidence left by the quarry. Traces left by the quarry can provide immediate use intelligence like enemy size, the direction of movement, rate of movement, infiltration and exfiltration routes and methods used, safe areas behind utilized, state of training and discipline, enemy capabilities and intentions.
However, that's not all. A skilled professional can even subvert his pursuers by leaving false tracks to divert their attention. Therefore, an important skill to recognize truth from falsehood is necessary.]
"Sensei, can't a sensor shinobi trace the direction of an enemy with his chakra signature?" One of the student questions.
"It's almost impossible to avoid the detection of a sensor shinobi, right?" Another student question.
"That's not always the case." The jounin shakes his head.
He crosses his finger to create a horse seal.
"Shadow clone jutsu,"
The jounin creates a shadow clone as a demonstration. An exact copy of the jounin appears beside him. The copy waves its hand and speaks.
"This is a shadow clone, jutsu. An advanced form of clone jutsu. A shadow clone has a physical form and thus can perform tasks based on the user's command."
The shadow clone walks towards a student and pats his head.
"Wake up, Mr. Sleepyhead!"
The shadow clone applies some pressure and smacks the head of the sleeping student.
WAAH…
The student jumps up in confusion.
"As you can see, a shadow clone can interact with physical objects." The clone returns beside the Jounin.
"Now then!"
He turns towards a Hyuga in his classroom.
"Asashi, was it?"
"Yes, Sensei!" The Hyuga nods his head.
"Inspect me and my clone with your Byakugan and attempt to differentiate us."
The Hyuga makes a tiger seal to activate his Byakugan. The vein near the temple of his eye bulges slightly. The Hyuga focuses his vision on the Jounin and his clone.
"Can you identify the real from my clone?" The jounin and his shadow clone speak at the same moment.
"Umm… sensei… I can't!" After a few moments, the Hyuga kid shakes his head.
"Both of your chakra signatures are almost the same. I can't sense the real you from your clone."
"Woah!" The rest of the students are amazed by the Jounin.
"Sensei, what's this technique? Can we learn it?" The student question in excitement.
"No!" The jounin shakes his head.
"This shadow clone is a powerful clone technique created by the Lord Second. When a clone is created, the user's chakra is evenly split between his real body and the clone. This might lead to rapid depletion of chakra and thus only jounin level shinobis are capable of utilizing this technique in combat." The jounin warns them and dispels his clone.
Yuji silently stares at the jounin.
'I have memorized the hand seals for the shadow clone jutsu. It's an extremely useful technique if it can create a physical copy of a person with all his abilities and knowledge. However, based on his tone, the risk related to the technique seems to be huge.'
Yuji ponders.
'Since it's a physical copy with exact memories of the user created using the chakra, then what will happen if the copy dies or dispels?' This piques Yuji's curiosity.
"Sensei, what will happen if the shadow clone dies?" Yuji raises his hand and asks a question.
"Oh!" The jounin turns towards Yuji with interest.
"That's an interesting question!" The jounin Koga nods at Yuji.
"A portion of the chakra used to create the clone will dissipate while the rest of the chakra will return to the user. Also, once a shadow clone dies, it will transfer its experience to the user prior to its death or dispel.'
"Sensei, does this mean shadow clones are the best units to gather intel in hostile environments or enemy territory?" Yuji asks again.
"Hmm… you are right! However, a shadow clone has several limitations. It's very hard to maintain a shadow clone for a longer period of time since having one shadow clone will double your chakra consumption while having two shadow clones will triple it. Also, controlling so many clones put a burden on the user's mind. Only someone with strong willpower and chakra can handle the burden caused by the technique. Most of the jounins use this technique to create decoys to fool their pursuers. Also, the user shares the mental fatigue will his clone. So, this might have some adverse effect on the user's mind." Koga warns him.
"I Understand sensei!" Yuji nods at his words.
Koga continues the lecture.
[So, as you can see, a shadow clone can even fool the eyes of an experience sensor. Other such techniques which can fool a tracker are…]
Creak…
The door to the classroom opens a student enters the classroom as Koga is teaching anti-tracking skills to the class.
The new student ignores everyone and walks towards the back seats. Soon, he stands in front of Yuji and frowns.
"Vacate this seat. It's my seat." He speaks to Yuji in a commanding tone.
"Huh!"
Yuji turns towards the newcomer in surprise. He turns around and notices the gloating expression of the surrounding students. The newcomer has contempt in his eyes as he glares at Yuji.
"Are you deaf?" The newcomer asks him again in annoyance.
Hmm…
Yuji throws a second glance at the newcomer. The newcomer is a boy around eleven years of age. He has unkempt, long spiky black hair and black eyes. He has a broad nose and well-defined eyelashes that turn upward at each end. He wears a high-collared, dark-colored outfit with a small fan symbol near the chest.
'I see!'
Yuji partially understands the situation. He vacates the seat and looks for another empty seat. He notices a vacant seat near a fat kid.
'An Akimichi clan member like Choza!'
Yuji makes himself comfortable in that seat. The expression of the rest of the class turns weird as they stare at Yuji. Some of them are gloating while others feel pity for him.
'Hmm… what's the matter now? I can understand the situation with the Uchiha kid. Uchiha clan members are quite prideful of their exceptional skills. That kid must be the top student in this class. It must be the reason why Koga Sensei paid no heed to his offense. But what about this Akimichi kid?'
The class resumes after this minor act as Koga continues the lecture on anti-tracking skills.
A few minutes later,
"What's this weird smell?" A foul smell wafts in the air and makes its way toward Yuji. Yuji immediately closes his nose and turns towards the source of the smell.
'I think I understand why others are avoiding this Akimichi kid?'
Yuji pinches his nose and turns away.
'Despite being an Akimichi clan member, this kid is suffering from indigestion and other stomach problems. His stomach is producing lots of gas which he is expelling into his surrounding thus effectively creating a gas chamber. No wonder no one is sitting around him.'
The front and back row around the Akimichi kid are empty.
'I can cut off my sense of smell, but I can't continue breathing this foul air. I will endure it for today. Besides, I have patiently lived in sewage for an entire week to seek an opportunity to assassinate my target. This level of smell is nothing for me.' He convinces himself.
After half an hour, the class ended.
"Fifteen minutes later, meet me in the training ground for your practical lessons." Koga wraps up his paper and leaves the classroom before sneaking a glance at Yuji.
As soon as the class end and Koga exit the classroom, Yuji jumps up from his seat and dashes out at full speed.
'I didn't expect that gas to be as lethal as the mustard gas. If I spent a few more minutes in that, I will most certainly pass out.'
Pfft…
The entire classroom burst out in laughter.
