Chapter 31: Clash
[WELCOME EVENT] (24 hours left)
KILL THE LARGEST QUANTITY OF ZOMBIES POSSIBLE AND ACQUIRE SOME SPECIAL REWARDS.
Matthew and the rest of the staff looked at each other and saw that everyone had a surprised look on their faces. This had not happened to anyone before and it seemed that it had not only happened to Matthew.
Everyone looked at each other for a few seconds. From their gestures and looks in their eyes, it could be seen that they were extremely anxious to start killing the zombies. Just before they were going to attract some zombies from the horde, Matthew stopped them.
"First of all, you all calm down. Although I'm also extremely anxious to start killing some zombies and acquiring some rewards, this may not be as simple as it seems." He tried to reason with them.
He stopped talking for a few seconds and began to think about what he was going to say. The more he thought about it, the more he was sure there was something out of place.
"It is strange that the higher beings want to give us some kind of benefit, you know. Up until now, many have died because of them and out of nowhere they just want to help us? There's something wrong. And what's more, you are extremely keen to gain the benefits of the event. But remember that to have some reward from this event, it is necessary to be alive." He added afterwards.
The entire group consisting of ten people besides Matthew, Tom, and Bethany paused as they contemplated about what Matthew had just said. Soon, they realized that there was some truth in his words, especially about the fact that they were eager to kill the zombies and gain some rewards.
Tom frowned as he felt uneasy as why the higher beings would be so "kind" to make an event that would make humans stronger. So, he told the group:
"What Matthew said made sense. And I have just said that we would not bite any more than we could handle, but for a second, we were about to do it again. What would become of our families if we died today? I hope you can think about it. Today, we have Matthew to save us, but what about the time when he's not here?"
Bethany thought for a few seconds and said, "No matter what the reason is, we have to take every second we can to gain more rewards, especially if what Matthew said is true. We're standing here thinking about why it will only hurt us in the future. Whatever the higher beings have planned will happen after this event and if we do get stronger, we will have a greater chance of survival."
Listening to her words, everyone agreed to what Bethany said and began preparing to face the zombies. Everyone took their weapons out, ranging from clubs to swords, except for one person who had taken a pistol from the inventory. Bethany then walked close to Tom and asked as she pointed to Tom's crew member who had pulled a pistol from the inventory: "I know that having a gun will make it easier to kill zombies, but he would not lose experience and the rewards of the event?"
Tom then looked at the direction Bethany pointed and said as he placed a sad expression on his face, "Not really. He got this pistol by killing a zombie yesterday. Because of this, everyone was anxious and began to kill more zombies. Although we kill more zombies than normal, this will also bring more danger than normal and because of this, five people died."
Bethany was surprised to learn that he had looted a pistol from a zombie and pouted as she murmured under her breath, "First, Matthew won Little Black, now the other man got a pistol, why don't I have that kind of luck?"
Oblivious to her unhappiness with her luck, everyone began to walk side by side, with a space of one meter between the members. They walked towards the zombies and when they reached ten meters of the zombies, it was as if the zombies could feel the humans arriving and began to run towards the group.
Matthew was extremely nervous about being close to such a horde of zombies. The horde crowded the street with no room left and stretched for hundreds of yards. There must be at least ten thousand zombies in this street. Any mistake that he made could cause the Matthew zombie to appear.
After a few moments that seemed like an eternity to Matthew because of the large amount of zombie that was approaching towards the group, both sides clashed.
