Chapter 2: Brother Yan
"Dear, Xi'er is here!"
Xu Liluo continued to drag her daughter until the latter finally sat down on the right side of Bai Shizhen who was reading a newspaper while sipping his coffee. His look was of a man in his thirties, even though his real age was a few months away from reaching fifty. Bai Shizhen gave his daughter an acknowledging smile before putting down his cup.
"Is there a class you have to attend?" he asked, knowing that Bai Ruoxi wouldn't step out of her room if it wasn't the case.
Bai Ruoxi nodded, "Professor Ye's seminar," she answered curtly while her mouth continued to munch on a toast before gulping down her glass of banana milk.
Looking at Bai Ruoxi's demeanor, Bai Shizhen shook his head. "Eat slowly."
"What are you going to do after graduation, Xi'er?" Xu Liluo asked, putting another toast onto her daughter's plate. "Your grandfather is excited for you to take over the company."
Bai Ruoxi nodded. "That's my plan."
Bai Ruoxi was fully aware that she couldn't possibly hide forever. She was the only heiress of Bai Family and eventually, she needed to face her responsibility head-on.
She desired to lift her family to the very top. Not just in the city, but the whole country. While at it, she probably would create some secret organizations.
Bai Ruoxi had already lost Gu Yin, and she couldn't do anything to prevent it. She didn't want to feel that kind of pain anymore. It was unbearable. That's why she needed her own army, one strong enough to protect her loved ones.
But right now, her main goal is to graduate with flying colors.
"I'm going now."
"Be careful." Xu Liluo waved her hands towards her departing daughter's back. A sad smile crept across her face, a feeling of discomfort filled her chest. She raised her face to look at her husband, "Do you think she blames us?"
"She doesn't." Bai Shizhen rubbed his hands on Xu Liluo's arm. "She needs time, Liluo."
"En." Xu Liluo wiped away the tear that rolled off her eyes.

"Ming Lu, drive me to university."
The man who was flirting around with some maids immediately had his back straightened as his long legs strode towards Bai Ruoxi, a smile blooming on his face. "Yes, Young Miss!"
Ming Lu was a very attractive man in his late twenties. He had a lean and muscular build as a result of his daily workout. Ming Lu had been around in Bai Family ever since Bai Ruoxi was a child, thus he had treated her much like a younger sister.
After getting inside the car, Bai Ruoxi immediately pulled out a makeup palette from her bag and started to do some alteration to her face. After she's done, the girl sitting at the back passenger seat no longer had its prior alluring beauty. In her place was instead a very dull looking woman, and to top it off, Bai Ruoxi put on a fake glasses.
Looking at her from the rearview mirror, Ming Lu let out a sigh. His young miss was still the same as ever. After Gu Yin's passing, she hated showing her face in public more than anything, moreover to be recognized as the Young Miss of Bai Family.
There wasn't any specific reason to why she would conceal herself from society, but Ming Lu had discerned that it was because Bai Ruoxi didn't want them to see her at her most vulnerable state.
Hence whenever she needed to attend university, she would secretly put on makeup and had her face magically turned into somebody else.
Ming Lu understood that this was one of the ways Bai Ruoxi had chosen to protect herself.
The twenty minutes drive to her university was filled with comfortable silence and the occasional sound of pages being flipped over. Ming Lu smiled inwardly, genuinely hoped that one day Bai Ruoxi could find someone she would be able to love as much as Gu Yin, or maybe an even stronger feeling.
When the car finally slowed down and stopped a block away from her university, Ming Lu stepped out and held the door open for Bai Ruoxi before giving her a slight bow. "Be careful, Young Miss."
"En," she hummed.
Bai Ruoxi's hold on her bag tightened as she made her way towards the university gate which was fully huddled by students. She hung her head low as she walked past a group of girls who were staring at her with obvious disdain and hatred.
"Look at her, fat and ugly!"
"What the fuck is she wearing? She looks like a sack of rice!"
"Her looks can't even be compared to dogs!"
The rest of the girls laughed loudly while not once did their mouths ever stop throwing insults towards Bai Ruoxi. The latter inwardly sighed, feeling uncomfortable as regret soon filled her mind.
Maybe she did look too ugly with this kind of disguise. If she knew she would be picked on like this since the start, she would have done her makeup slightly better. Although there's nothing wrong about being less attractive, those people seemed to enjoy humiliating her.
But it's too late to regret anything now. Bai Ruoxi had applied for early graduation anyway and she's already on her last year. She wouldn't be seeing any of those people anymore. Well, probably except for...
"Don't bully Sister Ruoxi!" A young woman shrieked as she hurried towards Bai Ruoxi.
Speak of the devil. Bai Ruoxi rolled her eyes inwardly.
"Xiao Xing, don't bother yourself with that slut! You're still defending her even though we have all seen her seduced Brother Yan!"
Brother Yan? Bai Ruoxi snorted. Could someone tell her who this 'Brother Yan' was? She hadn't been here for weeks!
"No.. I'm sure it was a misunderstanding! Sister Ruoxi must have her reasons!"
Bai Ruoxi frowned and slightly narrowed her eyes towards the woman in front of her, Gu Xing. She was the illegitimate daughter of Gu Yin's father. Bai Ruoxi didn't know whether Gu Xing had realized who she was thereby kept on acting like she was trying to help, but in fact, was making the situation worse. She didn't even deny the claim that Bai Ruoxi seduced this so-called 'Brother Yan'.
If Bai Ruoxi continued to stay here, she would just get mixed up with some kind of messy soap opera dramas. She still had a seminar to attend, and without giving them any further regards, she continued to walk away.
"We're not done with you, Xu Ruoxi!"
One of the girls reached out her hand and tried to pull on Bai Ruoxi's hair, but before she even managed to get close enough, a loud and deafening screech was heard.
