Chapter 2: Shattering Glass

10 Minutes earlier~

In a football field, cities away from Boston, three kids, two boys and one girl, were sitting in the center of the field, enjoying some afternoon relaxation.

With their bags stacked up on the side of their highschool logo, the 3 were laying on their backs with their heads next to each other.

"It's finally happening huh..." one of the boys said as he rested his head on his hands.

"Next step is college, we are all going to the same place so we will do that together too." The girl said happily with a slightly soft tone.

"Finally graduating...." the second boy said as he held up his hand to the sky before letting it fall over his eyes.

"It's too bright out here..." he complained as the girl rolled onto her side and tapped his hand that was covering his face.

"Don't complain, even if we all passed with honor roll you still stay in your house playing video games every day. You only ever come outside with us, enjoy the break from your stuffy room and breathe in some fresh air." The girl, a young woman with short black hair and white skin said.

Ouch! You hurt my pride as a fellow gamer! Why did you have to go after Damian like that, Ari? You play with us a lot, too." The first boy asked making Ari turn her light blue eyes to him. He had black hair and white skin as well but he preferred a slightly spiked-up hairstyle.

"Both of you play your video games too much. At least I go outside and socialize." She said to both of the boys as she took out her phone and started taking pictures of the 3 of them.

"Get up for a second Damian, you too Kai. I want to take a picture but they aren't looking good with you both laying down like that.

"I hate pictures... you know this already Ari," Damian said as he sat up and yawned for a second. Damian was a nice looking tanned skinned male, with brown hair he got from his mother. He also had brown eyes that were closer to black than brown.

"I know you do. Take this picture! We don't have a lot of pictures together even though we have known each other since we were little. What if something happens that splits us up? We need something to look at and remember the good times we share." She said as she stood up and crossed her arms.

"Fine, we will take a few pictures with you." Kai, a nice-looking white guy with brown hair said as he stood up and nudged his friend with his foot. "It will take no time at all Damian."

Defeated, Damian sighs to himself as he stands up reaching a height of five foot eleven inches. Kai had the same height as him and Ari, being the shortest one of the bunch, standing at five foot seven inches.

"I'll be in the middle!" She said as she stood between the two guys and held out her phone trying to get both of them included in the selfie.

With a few light jokes about their height difference, the trio smiled at the phone as Ari smiled and took a picture with them all looking pretty happy and relaxed.

"Did you both see the news in the anomaly? It's expanding!" Ari said as she stepped a few steps away from the boys before turning around as she looked up from her phone with a satisfied expression in her face.

"People online are theorizing that we are being invaded and others are saying the world is ending." She said as she laughed while remembering reading something about alien hamsters invading the planet.

Damian was about to respond as he heard glass breaking in his ears. Confused as to how he heard glass breaking from the middle of a football field he looked around as his friends continued talking before looking into the sky.

"Damian? What's wrong with you bro?" Kai asked as he tapped on Damian's shoulder, bringing his focus back to the conversation.

"It's nothing I just-" as he was responding, he looked back towards his friends before finding his surroundings instantly replaced with golden light.

Confused again, Damian blinked a few times trying to refocus his mind but as he opened his eyes for the third time, only the golden surroundings greeted him.

As he wondered for a second he turned around and took a few panicked steps back from the structure that he had randomly appeared in front of.

"What the hell..." he asked as he looked at the black structure that he assumed was in the shape of a cube.

The side he was facing has an orb or something at the center with golden light shining out from it. While he was still confused he felt characters or symbols enter his mind before they translated a few seconds later to English.

Almost as he already knew the language that he had not seen before in his life.

Looking back to the giant black cube with gold light shining from the middle he decided the one word that he deciphered in his mind.

"Pandora..."

Blinking his eyes again he noticed he was back in the field looking at his friends once again. Visibly confused he looked around before looking at his friends in a confused manner as they looked at him for a few seconds.

"Did you both see what I just saw?" He quickly asked as they both looked at him while Kai responded. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"But there was just a black box right there! And... I saw something in my mind, it was a language I didn't understand before but then it translated so English!" Damian said quickly as he worked his mind to come up with a way to explain it to his friends without sounding crazy.

"What are you talking about? Start from the beginning Damian." Ari said as she looked right into his eyes.

Taking a few seconds to calm himself, Damian closed his eyes and thought about what it was he experienced.

"I think I saw... Pandora's Box..." he said as he instantly felt something being created in his chest as he instinctively felt his surroundings become suffused with a warm feeling.

Thinking back to his friends, he opened his eyes to see his friends emulating a certain meme is a small yellow creature from a popular overseas show.

"Damian... Your eyes..."

Damian looks at them confusedly. Trying to recognize the sudden change of tone from their voices, he tries to search for his phone from his sweater to his pants pockets. He doesn't know what is happening to the world and to him.

"They changed colors."

Just as he was about to respond to his friends, he saw something within his eyesight that he never would have imagined was possible.
