Chapter 14: Café Tsubame

///Three days later///

It was a few days before Christmas Eve. Apparently for a member of the police, preparations for the security of such a festive occasion were being prioritized. Yuria became very busy. It came to the point she usually arrived at home late at night, thus skipping dinner. Luckily she was one of the few officers who weren't on night duty on the days of Christmas but sadly she was on duty for the New Year. Thus, recently she had been enjoying hanging out at night recently. On this particular evening though, she decided to invite Tezariah.

After all, Tezariah rarely left the house either because he wasn't familiar with the neighborhood or was "training." Also, Yuria wanted to know more about the magic stuff but before that she should at least get to know him on a personal level to ask this favor.

Yuria invited Tezariah on a café rumored to have a specific place in which people could return back in time. Apparently it became famous recently as some customers leaked information and skeptics who tested it came out silent after entering the café. In fact, it even appeared in a local newspaper. Yuria wanted to check this place as many of her friends recommended it. And who best to bring along to a mystical place in case of mishaps but a "wizard" like Tezariah.

On the day of the supposed "date", Yuria went home early to pick up Tezariah. He came out with a loose shirt and a pair of pant. It was too casual. Yuria also changed her clothes to something more casual. When they both left, everyone at the house were grinning, especially old Tenzo.

"Told you mother, there was something between them." said Tenzo as he smirked. The old grandmother took a broom and was about to spank Tenzo.

"Fine! I'm going, I'm going..." He scrambled and left before he would get spanked.

"You shameless old man, still gossiping at your age! You'll infect the children within your bad behavior!" shouted the grandmother. A nice smile appeared in her face though as she looked at direction where Yuria and Tezariah left and then she entered the house.

....

Yuria and Tezariah arrived at the Café Tsubame. There were quite the people in the café as it was December. It was the perfect month to go on dates. The entrance was unremarkable and looked like an ordinary Japanese shop. The interior was different though. The first floor boasted a picturesque mix of modern and environmental designs thus was very much attractive to the youngsters. On the other hand, the second floor of had a Japanese traditional-styled interior. One could say that the design was an innovative combination of Edo and Meiji inspired interior design.

The number of people showed that the business was doing great, luckily Yuria had booked a seat for both of them. They took a seat at the first floor at a corner close to a window. As they sat down, eyes were at them attracted to such a duo.

For Yuria, men looked at her with interest. After all, she did looked attractive, wild and outgoing. She had a light skin color, hazel eyes that looked sharp like a beast always on their guard, a black-brown medium length hair and a face that was beautiful even with light makeup. Her body was also well-proportioned for a woman. One could say that she was a perfect definition of beauty in simplicity. If it was a blind group date, she would definitely be the number one choice of many men.

As for Tezariah, there was nothing need to be said. His height and beautiful silver hair alone attracted the eyes of people looking at his back. At the front, those who looked at his eyes and face were enchanted. Even the guys could not hate him for attracting women's gazes, as he was too mesmerizing even for them. Along with a mysterious aura and a body that wasn't like a gym-addict but still muscular enough, it was enough to make even a manthing-repulsed lesbian find him attractive.

Both of them sat down and ordered. Yuria ordered coffee and a strawberry shortcake while Tezariah ordered tea, pasta and chocolate cake. Before Yuria could say a thing...

"This place feels weird, hmmmm." said Tezariah.

"Why?" replied Yuria. Yuria's looked at him amused. Tezariah didn't know about this place beforehand and thus would not know much about the rumors of this place.

"Interesting... The mana flow is distorted. It is distorted in such a way that mana may look like it was moving randomly, probably to hide its irregularity but the flow seems too.... how would say it, too perfectly random. They may look random but they are converging... There?" A Tezariah was feeling the mana of the area, he points at a certain room on the second floor.

Yuria bulges her eyes. The room Tezariah pointed was rumored "room that brought you back in time." Yuria asked a question, "Why do you say it's too perfectly random?"

"Hmmm. In nature all life absorbs mana. Thus most of the time, mana varies in different places because of the lifeforms and their absorption rates. But in this place, it may look like it is random but the absorption occurs entirely at small internals. Furthermore the mana that is absorbed is just enough to sustain them. It seems to weird." Tezariah replied.

"Why is that weird? asked Yura even further.

Tezariah explained it as simple as possible to Yuria. "All living things want to gain advantages for survival. Thus even absorbing mana is a contest to a natural environment. Most would aim until they are full. But here, each plant, animal, human or even me, a wizard, just gets the minimal amount needed to satiate it. Its eating food until only to the point that is enough for you survive. To normal creatures, that do not control mana this may not be felt. But for any mana-sensitive people like wizards, this will feel weird and out of place."

In fact even Yuria felt the weirdness of this place as she entered a while ago but brushed it off as stares from other people.

"Especially in that room. It feels like mana is specifically transferred there like a central point." Tezariah once again pointed at the room. To Yuria, it seems bringing Tezariah was the right choice. Atleast he could give Yuria explanations about this place's peculiarity.

Tezariah on the other hand, became more curious and interested. It wasn't a typical formation or magic circle as there was no fluctuation that there was such a thing. The next he thought was a natural formation, but he then thought it was unlikely, as such an effect in nature would render the area at most incapable of accommodating larger more mana-hungry beings like humans.

Even as Yuria began to have small talks with him, Tezariah's mind was still scrambling and thought about the peculiarity of the events.
