Chapter 2: TWO
I have had my life going on smoothly since I was young. I was never concerned about finances, food, or shelter. I grew up in a well-off family with a twin sister and one younger brother, so I can say that I'm satisfied with this current status quo, but things changed when I became a Lawyer. At that time, I was 24 years old and had an ignorant thought the world was beautiful that everyone could live righteously. However, reality slapped me hard when I represented a plaintiff in the civil lawsuit against the human traffickers; the plaintiff had only one daughter in her forties ages, so she doted on her. To raise her, she came home late and woke up earlier than others in her village to sell vegetables in the morning and worked as a dishwasher in the afternoon till late at night. Despite her bitter life, she never nagged or showed any sadness to her daughter, only sweetly smiled at her and encouraged her daughter to study hard.
Good things never bless good people, only bad happen to them. Her only daughter got deceived by her distant relative to work in the country of Z; for more than a year, she has never heard of her daughter's news. Afterward, she got the news that her distant cousin had fleeted away from the police's warrant. She realized that her daughter was kidnapped and trafficked to the country of Z. I met her through the department of legal aids to poor, I volunteered to help her case she gave me an impression of mother, never lost hope to find her daughter. I worked hard to help her and requested the court for permission to collaborate with the country of Z to arrest traffickers. Otherwise, the police would find an excuse to skip this procedure. Unfortunately, the victim's mother did not get a fair judgment, and the culprit has fleed away, not to mention that her daughter's whereabouts were unknown.
Upon receiving a complaint from the victim, the police must investigate this case, but their action caused me to dizzy all the time. The officers did not take action to find the clue as to possible unless I put pressure on them and threatened to sue them for their irresponsibility as public officers. Simply put, the police did not bother about human life, they automatically submitted to the court to complete the procedure. I stood at trial, glanced at them coldly cannot believe in my eyes that there were such hypocritical people. The accused person failed to appear at the court, despite the notice, the judgment shall be made and sentenced in jail. Who's cares about it? it was not my daughter who was disappeared.
The "Fair" and "Justice" exist in society when it involves the person's interest. In their views, it is okay for them because everyone does it; this action causes another fallacy for faulty reasoning. Because of their selfishness, greedy, and ignorant, People take it for granted. If people were more rational, fairness would exist least for the poor. From then on, I have decided to be a Criminal Profiler, not to define the word " Fairness" but to create a little fairness for those who are needed.
The clocking sound alert disrupted my thought; I was startled for almost falling on the floor; It is shameful for me to think that there is another person to see it. I dash to a bathroom quickly; the priority, for now, is off to the police station. " Ms. Souya, Here you are. Come to take a look at this report!!" Yim Tha excitedly shouts and hands it to me. I grab it and read it one by one. " Well, come to think of it, this deceased looked quite impressive in terms of look and academic background. Despite being grown up in a poor household, he overcame poverty to change his bitter fate by getting a college entrance and getting a stable job for his family. He was hard-working, patient, optimistic, and a good husband, which means his personality was like a ray of sunshine gave everyone an impression of warming. In other words, I assume that his wife might be entirely dependent on him and yearn for his protection. Have you found his wife's information yet?" I asked casually.
" Yeah, I get it. Malai reports it for Ms. Souya" Yim Tha looks so proud and winks at her. Malai fiercely glances at him and pushes his shoulder to stand next to Ms. Souya. " Yeah, I have inquired about her information. Her name is Tan Mai. She is 36 years old this year. She and her husband were sweethearts which both of them studied at the same college, fell in love, and then got happy marriage life in their twenties. However, She got blinded due to a car accident three years ago; she has shut herself at home since then. Sad to say, Her Husband also disappeared five months after she got an accident".
" It likes predetermined by fate, but a person also plays the role to make it happen as well." I pause and continue, "By the way, have you guys reported this case to the head department of the criminal investigation? " I hear the clicking sound of the door opening; I quickly turn my head, I meet his hot gaze staring at me. He lazily walks in like he owns this place. Who is that guy? How come he is so rude? He comes in without knocking!!:-t:-t:-t:-t. I am about to teach him a lesson, but someone tries to pull me back. I fiercely turn around, seeing Yim Tha scratches his nose, embarrassedly look up at me " ah-hem... Ms. Souya, this is Mr. Pharat Kou, the head of the criminal investigation department in City B". I grit my teeth, take a deep breath, and smile reluctantly, stretching out my hand to him for a handshake " Hello, Mr. Pharat. I am Souya Kun, the criminal profiler at City A. Nice to meet you here". He returns my handshake and gently smiles at me " It's my pleasure to meet you, Ms. Souya. Please accept my apology for my rudeness. I didn't know that you were here". I am stunned by his sudden affectionate eyes; I avoid his deep gaze as I am sure that I have not met him before, but he looks at me like he knows me.
I awkwardly laughing "hahaha...That's fine. Mr. Pharat", and when I slowly pull my hand back, I see a flash of regret appear on his face before returning to his cold looks. Is it my illusion? After that, Mr. Pharat turns his Pheonix sharp eyes to Yim Tha, making him frightened and lowering his head abruptly. " Have you checked it with the forensic department? When does the result come out? " Yim Tha stands straight and salutes, " Yeah, Sir. I have asked Yum Beoun to send this skeleton to the forensic department for autopsy. The result will come out within a week." His facial features are in perfect proportion sculpted by a god. The slide-back black hair he combs carefully suited for his phoenix eyes. His only flaw is he likes to knit his thick eyebrows in frustration, so no one dares to approach him. The moment I met his hot gaze, I was stupefied as I saw the tiger look at me; his pair of black eyes gave me a sign that he had found his prey.
I am startled by his sudden voice " What did you say? Can you say it again". He purses his mouth in a satisfied smirk reply back " Since it is almost 8'o clock at night, I think we should rest and start again after we get the result of the autopsy. Ms. Souya should come with me tomorrow to meet his wife. While the rest leave it to Yim Tha, Malai, and Beoun to process it." I nod my head and agree with," Okay, then follow your ideas. Then see you tomorrow morning at nine o'clock at the police station". Both Yim Tha and Malai are stunned since they have working with their boss for a long time; they never see him take the initiative to approach or act indifferently toward everyone. It is rare to see him smirk in a silly way to Ms. Souya. They need to tell Yum Beoun about this. :->:->:->:->.
P.S. The Male lead finally has shown up in this chapter. It takes him for a while to chase the female lead.
