Chapter 2: Tutorial

Elmo figured the next thing he should do is figure out what the system he'd been told that he had was. While he didn't care to be on the same team as Kim, it was possible that her intimidating demeanor was only for her enemies and not allies. Or at least once she considered them that.

Shaking his head, he sighed before calling out, "Status."

It looked like a screen appeared before him. It game a list of his statistics that confused him just a little bit more. He'd played video games before, but those always were simple to understand what the stats applied to. This however, was clearly more complicated than that.

You have 5 attribute points left to allocate. Where would you like to place them?

Elmo sighed as she first tested out what he could do with them. He figured since he was a mage, Mag must stand for 'magic,' and he assumed it was his power level for his spells. He added a point to his Mag and was surprised when his MP went down. However, a reset and confirmation option appeared, so he knew if he didn't like the results he could redo it.

Fiddling around with it, he finally determined that he could increase his MP with adding points to his Int and Wis. Though, he couldn't add points directly to his HP, MP, or Stamina. Though, with messing around with where to place the points, he learned how to increase those stats, not that it seemed as important for his class. Although, he did wonder if there was a reason for the stats. It did feel like it would be just too simple to assume they were only there to affect his HP, MP, or Stamina. Especially since his Cha and Agi didn't affect those at all.

Finally, he determined that adding 2 points to his Int and Wis with 1 to his Mag would be his best options. Which also raised his MP to 31.

With that taken care of, he turned his attention back to Elin and Kim.

+++

Elin had been appalled at Kim's behavior. Sure she hadn't wanted the man to be that close to her, but when she realized he was helping secure her robe so she wouldn't have to worry about keeping it close and not letting anyone see her naked body, she relaxed.

She'd often been told by her father and servants that she was a good judge of character, not that she'd ever been good at exercising that ability.

She never understood how she knew, but she always could tell what motives someone had for anything they did. It unnerved some of the servants, but most didn't seem that bothered by it.

"Why did you do that?" she asked Kim.

"He was a man. They're all up to something," Kim replied.

"He was helping me," Elin told Kim. "So you should apologize to him."

Kim looked at Elin like she had two heads. "He's a man. Whatever I do to him, he probably deserves it. If not for that then for something else," Kim said.

Elin looked away from Kim. It was clear she wasn't going to give an inch, so Elin wasn't interested in trying. She merely turned to the man and saw him looking at something in front of him that she couldn't see. He was even moving his hand to tap something in regards to whatever he was seeing. Elin wasn't sure what he was doing, but had a feeling she shouldn't try to get his attention at the moment.

However, while she was done with Kim, it seemed that she wasn't done with Elin. As in point how she pulled Elin to face her again.

"How about you team up with me?" she asked, her face looking like she was trying to be friendly, but Elin could tell that she was looking for something else. What that was, she couldn't be sure, since she hadn't experienced this motive before. Other than that it involved her.

While she wanted to tell Kim what she could do with her offer, she considered what she knew was going on. Kim had a fighter system, whatever that was, and while she really didn't know what was going on, she had a feeling that Kim's system would be very useful to her survival.

"Alright, but only if you allow me to include him in the team and anyone else he wants too," Elin said, putting on her 'firm' face. The one that her father had never been able to say no to.

Kim regarded her with an amused expression on her face. After a minute she sighed. "Fine, he can join if he wants," Kim said, sounding annoyed.

Elin smiled and looks at the man again. Whatever he was looking at seemed to be finished, though he had started to walk away a little.

Alarmed, she quickly rushed over to him and grabs hold of his wrist again. "Would you join us, please?" she asked, before he could react.

He turned to her and smiled gently. "What do you propose?"

"I want to be on the same team as you. Kim said she'd be fine with you and anyone you'd like on the team as well," Elin replied, hoping he wouldn't refuse.

"Have you checked your status yet?" he asked, catching Elin off guard.

"What do you mean?"

"Whoever brought us here mentioned about our systems. It stated that to check your stats, just say 'status' and you can see a list of your stats. It includes spells you can use, though I haven't dealt with the tutorial yet, but I think it might be good to secure supplies and equipment before we delve too much into that," he replied.

"You're smarter than you look," Kim remarked, making Elin jump. She hadn't heard her come up behind her.

"I already looked at my stats, but I'd like to wear something other than this loincloth," the man said.

"I'm Kim," Kim said, holding her hand out in a friendly manner.

"I'm Elmo," the man replied, shaking Kim's hand.

"How about this, you get clothing and food for us and I'll get some weapons and armor. Who's to say what we might need out of here," Kim said.

"Um, what should I do?" Elin asked.

"How about you check your stats and run through your tutorial?" Elmo suggested. "When we get back you could explain it to us and it'll save us time."

Elin smiled. She could do that. "Sure!" Elin said. "Status!"

A window opened up before Elin and she was mystified at the stats she saw before her. She'd really need to listen to the tutorial to even understand what she was looking at, or she'd likely not be of any use to anyone.

You have 5 attribute points to allocate. Would you like to place them?

Elin examined what she saw on her skills and spells. Some really interested her, but most of it just confused her.

Sighing, she said, "Tutorial."

<Welcome to the tutorial portion of your system. If at any time you need a refresher of this, feel free to access the tutorial again.> A friendly voice said, but it sounded like it was directly in her mind.

<What would you like help with?>

"Please explain what the attributes mean," Elin asked, wondering if this was just going to make her more confused.

<Str is for strength. Strength determines the power of most physical attacks. It also shows how much you're able to carry. In addition, strength affects your HP or health points and stamina.

<Int is for intelligence. Intelligence determines how well you are able to perform skills that rely on this stat. It also determines your ability to recall information that would apply to any task you're working on. Intelligence also affects your MP or mana points.

<Dex is for dexterity. Dexterity determines how flexible you are. Such as your ability to move out of the way of attacks. Dexterity has also an effect of some physical attacks.

<Con is for Constitution. Constitution determines how well you're able to fight off diseases and poisons. It also has an effect of HP and stamina.

<Wis is for wisdom. Wisdom determines how well you're able to recognize when others are trying to socially influence you as well as how well you resist any mind control effects you make be subject to. Wisdom also has an effect on your MP.

<Mag is for Magic. This is what power level any of your spells will have. However, the higher the power, the harder it is control, and as such, it reduces your MP.

<Agi is for Agility. This determines how fast you're able to move and cast spells.

<Cha is for Charisma. Charisma determines how others react to you in a social setting. It determines how well you others will react to the words you use.

<Physical and magical resistance determines how well you're able to withstand attacks of those natures.

<Skills and spells can level up through repeated use. Leveling up skills and spells will lead to stronger versions of said skills or spells in most cases. When this isn't the case, it merely improves the ability itself directly or expands its reach. Skills and spells that can't level up do not provide any additional benefit or skill or spell.

<Your skills are as follows: Wound Identification, Wound Treatment (non-magical), Combat Medic, and Holy Boost.

<Wound Identification allows you to recognize what made a wound as well as any characteristics of poisons or other substances in a wound that can complicate the treatment of the wound. Intelligence and Wisdom are key attributes for this skill. 0/100

<Wound Treatment (non-magical) allows you to know how to treat wounds using basic methods such as bandages and stitches as well as how to apply such. Good to use when your MP is running low or you want to conserve it. Intelligence and Dexterity are key attributes for this skill. 0/100

<Combat Medic allows you to ignore any combat nearby and focus on either casting healing spells or treating wounds in addition to ignoring any penalties of such a situation. Wisdom is the key attribute for this skill. 0/100

<Holy Boost amplifies your Holy attribute spells by 10% with the cost of an additional 25% MP when activating this skill. No attributes are complimentary for this skill. 0/100

<Spells you have access to currently are: Minor Heal, Treat, Sacred Shot, Assess, Stat enhancement, Physical Resistance enhancement, and Minor Protection.

<Minor heal is a basic healing spell to heal wounds through restoring a small amount of HP. It is a Life attribute spell and costs 4mp. 0/100

<Treat is a healing spell that removes basic status problems such as minor poison or paralyzation. It is a Life attribute spell and costs 3mp. 0/100

<Sacred Shot is an offensive spell that inflicts holy damage against an opponent. It is a Holy attribute spell and costs 4mp. The power of this spell is 7. 0/100

<Assess is a spell that allows you to see what status effects a creature has. There is no more powerful version of this spell. It is a Life attribute spell and costs 2mp. 0/100

<Stat enhancement improves a single stat for 2 hours by a minor amount. It is a Life attribute spell and costs 2mp. 0/100

<Physical resistance enhancement improves the physical resistance of one target for 2 hours by a minor amount. It is a Force attribute spell that costs 2mp. 0/100

<Minor Protection is a spell that creates a shield to help reduce physical attacks from making contact in general. The effects last 1 hour and is a Force attribute spell that costs 2mp. 0/100

<This concludes your request. Is there another request you'd like to make?>

Elin felt her head spinning with the information she'd received. Somehow she understood most of that information, where in the past, even her father had to give her directions multiple times most of the time.

"What can you tell me about the systems of other players.

<The information available is limited. Each system is designed to complement the participant who received the system. The stats and how the stats affect various skills, attribute stats, abilities, or even HP, MP, and stamina. Some systems don't have any MP, for example.>

"Well, what's different about the systems, then?"

<Unable to reply. Each system is different.">

Elin sighed. She was starting to get impatient. She'd never had to rephrase one of her questions befeore.

"What are the significant differences between the systems?" Elin asked, hoping she'd get better results with this question.

<Systems differ too much from each other to accurately reply. However, each system has a category that separates the basic differences. All information beyond this on this subject is prohibited for participants. Unable to explain in more depth.>

Elin sighed. It looked like her team would need to run their own tutorials in order to get more information. However, she at least did get the information she wanted about her stats and abilities. So, ready to move on, she applied her attribute points with 2 to Agi, 2 to Int, and 1 to Wis.
