Chapter 8: Altering the plan

Tears fell from Lynne's eyes as she looked at Roy's motionless body laying on the ground, blood oozing from the spot where he had been shot.

She knelt beside him and kissed his cheek, then looked up at the killer, and if looks could kill, then he would be dead over a thousand times.

The other people in the room looked at her in surprise, and wondered what kind of relationship she had with the dead young man. However, their attention was quickly drifted to Mr. Leon, and their faces flickered.

He put the gun in his mouth and shot himself, committing suicide the same way before Roy and

Lynne changed the past.

But did they really change a thing?

Yes they did, and it wasn't a good one. Although Mrs. and Mr. Leon died yet another time, Roy joined his parents in death.

"Failure, it was a complete failure…" she murmured, shaking her head furiously as tears continued to flow down from her eyes, refusing to believe what had just happened. But it was true, Roy wasdead.

"Why? Why?" she still said, but suddenly, she stopped crying and remembered what Roy had told her moments before his death.

"The man who pushed the bed". Lynne realized that these words weren't completely pointless, they had a meaning after all!

"He wanted me to know that it was him, not to tell the police, no but to return back in time and figure it out from the beginning."

She clutched the stopwatch in her pocket and was about to get it out, but then refrained from doing so. Right now was not the proper time to go back in time. No, she had to wait.

She left the hospital after freeing the tied nurse and giving her clothes back. She put on her normal clothes and headed towards the café where she was 'chatting' with Roy earlier.

She sat down at the same small round table which miraculously happened to be empty. She pulled out the stopwatch and started turning the button at the top of it to the right. She didn't care if people saw her, after all, these events are going to be wiped out. After confirming that she had set it at the right time, she clicked the button.

Instantly, the pointers of the clock started rotating in an anti-clockwise manner. They were followed by ripples, as the world around her was moving backwards until she reached the point where she sat down with Roy earlier.

"Yes! It worked!" she exclaimed, only to find a confused Roy looking at her strangely.

"What worked?" he asked, raised an eyebrow.

"Oh Roy!" she said, "I never thought that it was a relief to see you again!"

"Thanks, I guess? But you just saw me. Why are you acting so weird?"

"I am from a few hours from now," she explained after taking a deep breath and calming down,

"Meaning that I returned back in time."

Roy's interest was suddenly aroused as he leaned forward and said, "Interesting. Tell me, what happened?"

"We failed from preventing your parents' death. And you…" She suddenly appeared hesitant. She didn't know whether or not she told him.

"What happened to me?" he asked with a deep frown on his face.

"You died!"

"Aha! So that's why you were so relieved to see me just now."

"Yes. But you figured out the identity of the person that gave the gun to your father."

"And who was he?"

"The man who…"

"...pushed the bed," he finished the sentence.

"How? How did you know that?"

"A sudden feeling."

"Perhaps we should consider trusting your feelings after we finish from this problem. But you are right, the man who pushed the bed is the one who will give your father the gun."

"Wait, did you really believe that it was a sudden feeling?"

"It wasn't?" she looked surprised.

"Of course not. Well, maybe it was faint, but it was the one that pushed me into realizing the man's identity."

"I am not sure I am following you up."

"When you said 'The man who…' it can be 3 possibilities. One, the man who opened the door; I immediately put him out of the list since he just opened the door and left. Two, the man who cleaned the room; he could have possibly left a gun on the ground, furthermore, the room light was dim, thus having too much shadows. A gun could be hidden there, but no, it is not possible.

My father pulled the gun from his side, not from the ground.

"This leaves us with the third possibility, the man who pushed the bed. And he was the only one who came so close to my father, and could possibly place the weapon on the side of the bed. So that's how I figured it out, and it is quite simple. I wonder why I haven't thought about it before?"

"That is all good, Mr. Detective," she said, "But what about the guards? They also came beside him."

Roy smiled and shook his head, then replied to her question, "You may not have noticed, but none of the guards carry guns when they are near him. At most they would have knives. As for why they were selected to be his guards? It is because they are martial arts experts, and extremely trained at that."

"But how was that man able to bring a weapon to the room if it is prohibited? Aren't they searched before entering?"

"Yes, they are searched. Maybe the guy responsible for the search was bribed by my father and the other one."

"It is a possibility. Why haven't you thought about it earlier? You could have saved us a lot of trouble, you know."

"I really don't know why this sudden insight has befallen me at this precise moment."

"Alright since we now know what will happen, will you alter the plan?"

"Of course."

Lynne's eyes glittered as she said, "What do we do?"

"We do the obvious," he replied calmly with a smile.
