Chapter 1: REMORSE

The antique clock hung right above the fireplace broke the silence of the night as its minute-hand struck twelve and I clinched the quilt a little bit tighter. I was just about to dive back again into the ocean of my gorgeous night dreams when I heard the words "Happy birthday Grace!!"in the most velvety and pacifying voice one could ever listen to and I lifted my eyelashes gently and there he was - the most vivid and the most submissive beauty I could ever wake up to-Jensen. The seductive fragrance of red roses made its way surprisingly not to my lungs but to that little pumping organ only to fall in his arms and whisper in his ears "I love you." He smiled back at me, his dimples as deep as a crater serving as a testimony of his heartfelt exuberance, not to my surprise I noticed that he was concealing something, not behind that smile but behind his huge body, "Is that a birthday cake you are hiding?" I screamed just pretending to be bewildered but his deep sigh of disappointment entailed that it was a wrong guess and I pushed him aside to set my gaze on mouthwatering, perfectly brown in color and my personal favorite pancakes and turning back to my most loved chef I exclaimed, "come on man I was close! The prefix "pan" must have been lost somewhere in speech you see" only galvanizing him to laugh his heart out on my giddy tendency of always trying to prove myself right. Both our footsteps approached to the chairs covered in crimson velvet which lent the room the most impeccable romantic aura.

"Don't you feel something's missing??" he uttered trying his best to seem confused in his contemplation. I nodded in agreement rolling my eyeballs towards the maple syrup lying just beside the pancakes, trying to indicate the missing factor here. The very next moment we were staring into each other's eyes as headstrong competitors as who is to grab that glass bottle first which comprised of syrup only to suffice one serve and just like every single time in the past he let me win this duel too only to induce me to tease him with those three words "You lost again!!". I grabbed the syrup, snatching it from his frail grip, and run around the entire house with Jen in pursuit and finally after ten whole minutes of pursuit he caught hold of me in the living room just to initiate another bittersweet quarrel which eventually ended up in that glass bottle falling down and breaking into little pieces of glass."Jen, I hate you like hell." I screamed. But Jensen somehow always manages to get himself off the hook with his cute gestures: He pulled me closer and whispered while looking me in the eyes

"You are the most beautiful creation of god"

"And you are the most annoying creature to ever set foot on this planet." I replied.

"Oh is that the case, well then let me annoy me as much as I want to..." he said while undertaking a successful attempt to cuddle me.

Suddenly my "dream come true" surroundings started fading away into nothingness: the door shut open permitting a smooth entry for all the dry lifeless leaves in the garden to blanket the maple wood flooring of my house, all the candles blowing off sending me into impalpable darkness and Jen pushing me away and asking me with crystalline tears his ocean blue eyes:

"Why would you do this to me Grace? Why?"

And as it happens to me every night or rather every time I my mind enters a state of sub consciousness- I woke up abruptly with my heart pounding rapidly and the aspect of remorse brimming my heart telling me that this could have been my life if I hadn't pulled the trigger, if I hadn't let Jen bleed out lying there in front of me, if I hadn't let that bullet pierce right through his heart, if I hadn't stain my hands with the blood of the love of my life, if I hadn't killed him.
