Chapter 2: The Beginning of The End

-A Flashback-

"Wh... what's going on?" Vari took a shaky step back, her heart pounding in her ears.

From the bed, her husband's doe eyed colleague peered up at her and smirked, wrapping an arm around Donald. Donald had the decency to look guilty as he tried to stand up from the bed, realised he wasn't wearing pants and decided to settle for kneeling on the edge instead.

"Vari, what are you doing here? I thought you had a girls' dinner after your gym session?"

"Aly came down with the flu so we called it off," Vari replied flatly. She paused, heartbreak warring with anger.

"What are you doing here? I thought you were supposed to be working not fucking your colleagues brains out," she spat, hands shaking from shock and rage.

The porcelain skinned beauty clinging to her husband (her husband!) sniffled and tugged on Donald's arm. That seemed to activate Donald and he straightened.

"Vari, I'm sorry, but I don't love you anymore," he took a deep breath, "I've been in love with Desiree for half a year and I want a divorce. She deserves better."

What about me? Vari wanted to scream, don't I deserve better too? She wanted to cry and laugh and sit down on the floor and sleep this away.

Instead, she drew in a shaky breath and let it out, her eyes trained on her wedding ring.

Then she turned around and ran, slamming the door as she fled.

You want me to be out of your life? Fine. I'll get out of your life FOR GOOD.

She ran past the familiar streets of her home, a place that she thought she would be happy forever, thankful for the cardio training she had been doing for the past two years.

Within twenty minutes, she was standing atop an empty bridge, looking at the dark waters rush beneath her. She knew that the height of the fall would kill her, slamming into water from this high up was akin to slamming into concrete.

She also knew that she was being stupid. Underneath the tear stains and horrified shock, she knew this wasn't the solution. But it hurt too much.

The man she has loved since she was eighteen had left her for another woman. Nothing made sense anymore, everything had been a lie. She swung herself up over the railing with ease and took a deep breath.

Then she jumped.
