Chapter 3: I'm Sorry Too!
Li Ran felt anxious, she was not able to eat lunch nor dinner. She just went straight to bed but not sleeping.
Just staring in an open space, she sometimes looked at her phone, staring at the name 'Minghao' hesitating whether to call him for comfort.
Minghao is an engineer and hopes that their company is the one to be in charge of a huge government project in another city. His parents recently gave him free rein over the company.
She does not want to bother him but she really wants to hear his voice. She looked at the time, it was 9:00 in the evening, she sighed when suddenly the phone rang.
Li Ran saw it was Jun Minghao's call. She took a deep breath and tried to sound normal. "Hello, Minghao!" Li Ran happily answered the phone as if it is really a normal day.
"Ranran, I got good news! I got the contract! I did it! Our company will be in charge of the project!" Minghao's happy voice came from the other side of the phone.
"Really! That's great! Congrats! I am proud of you!" Ranran replied joyously, sincerely happy for Minghao's success.
"I bet you did well on your morning presentation too. I wish you were here tonight to celebrate! But it is still workday tomorrow, wait until the weekend, I'll go back and we'll do a double celebration of our success!" Minghao planned happily, while Li Ran's eyes reddened, but she tried to control her voice.
"OK, we'll celebrate this weekend." She chatted with Minghao for a while before Minghao told her: "Ranran, everyone is at the bar celebrating, I'll be following them there now to see. You know my team, they will probably drink the night away."
"Are you gonna drink too?" Ranran asked worriedly.
"Probably, but I know my limits and if I think I'll be too wasted to drive I'll call for a driver." Jun Minghao replied coaxingly.
"No! The moment you drink, call for a driver to drive you home, whether you are sober or not! Don't worry me." Ranran told him firmly, Minghao chuckled. "Yes, boss! I gotta go! I love you!"
Li Ran smiled and replied back. "I love you too! Don't drink too much and take care of yourself! See you this weekend."
When the call ended, Li Ran's mood became slightly better, Minghao had always been her pillar of strength.
She decided to hurry to the other City to surprise Minghao early in the morning. She set the alarm and tried hard to sleep.
The next day, 3 am, she hardly got some sleep but she ate breakfast of rice and egg, and because she did not eat anything yesterday she also brought some buns to eat on the road to supply her energy. She then started driving to the city where Minghao is located and went straight to his hotel.
She drove for 4 hours but she did not feel tired, she is excited to see Minghao.
The only good thing this incident did is to let her have a break to be with her fiance.
Minghao mentioned his room number before, so she went directly and knocked on the door and shouted: "Room Service!" She chuckled softly thinking of his face when she sees her.
A few moments, the door opened but instead of a man, a woman is standing in front of her wearing a man's clothing.
She should know better who it belongs to because the shirt is the exact shirt she gave to Minghao on his birthday a few months ago. It was custom made because she added her own design on the sleeves.
She is stunned and is unable to walk in or walk out. The woman looked at her curiously, before her eyes widened in understanding.
She did not close the door, but walked inside, a few moments later there were sounds heard.
Li Ran slowly entered the hotel room and saw Jun Minghao getting dressed quickly but fell on the ground after getting tripped by his pants. He saw Li Ran come inside and he dressed faster.
"Ranran, this... I can explain!" Minghao spoke as he fastened his pants on. Li Ran just stared at him then the woman walked out from the bathroom all dressed up.
She quietly left the room without looking at anyone and Li Ran just followed her with her gaze.
"Ranran, listen... I.. I don't even know her... We just met last night and I was drunk..." Jun Minghao did not know where to start explaining but he tried to tell her the truth as possible.
"You don't know her yet you shared a bed? You met last night but she stayed the whole night?" Li Ran's voice is firm, she did not cry, but her voice is so cold that even she did not recognize her own voice.
"Ranran, I..." Minghao did not know what to say and ended up saying the jerkiest words ever. "It was just one night... Ranran, just a one night stand... It was nothing serious."
Minghao lowered his head, even he knows it was a lousy excuse. Li Ran stared at him making Jun Minghao uncomfortable with her stare.
Jun Minghao approached her and tried to hold her in his arms. "DON'T TOUCH ME!" Li Ran roared. "Don't touch me with your hands that touched her." Li Ran is really angry at looked at him sharply.
"Ranran I was just too drunk and I miss you, and she was there and it just happened... She was flirting with me, I tried to resist but... I got carried away. Ranran, it's you that I love. I don't mean for this to happen." Jun Minghao is panicking seeing the anger in Li Ran's eyes. He felt that he is losing her and it made him feel suffocated.
Li Ran scoffed but did not speak, she just continued to look at the man that suddenly became a stranger in her eyes.
"Ranran I'm sorry, it was just one night. This won't happen again I promise!" Jun Minghao continued to persuade her.
Li Ran finally spoke while looking at Jun Minghao in the eyes. "Did this happen before?... Did you have sex with other women before?" Li Ran's words were so straight to the point that Minghao's eyes dodge and flickered guiltily.
Li Ran took in his expression and sneered. "Just how many one night stands do you have?!" Minghao recovered and spoke pleadingly.
"Ranran, I'm sorry, I was just.. not thinking straight... I know I am wrong. I love you baby, don't be angry. Punch me or kick me, anything just don't leave me." Minghao's panic doubled, he really feels he is losing Li Ran, he tried to hold her hand.
"Sorry?! Do you think everything will be fixed by the word sorry? That love can absolve every crime? You do it once should I forgive you? You do it twice, should I accept you? Tell me! Is it just once or twice or thrice that you cheated on me. Whether it is by different women or just one, cheating is cheating! If I did not catch you today, are you so sure that there won't be a next time? Even after we are married, are you confident that there will never be a 'one night stand'? Every celebration I am not with you, are you confident you won't stray and keep that in your pants!" Li Ran evaded his hands and started to rant, Jun Minghao is speechless and looked at her blankly, not expecting her outburst.
"You think that just because I love you, I should stop getting angry and forgive you? Just because I love you I should accept whatever comes my way? Have you ever considered my feelings? Have you ever asked if I am happy, content, or okay?" Li Ran doesn't know anymore if she is thinking about Meng Xia or Jun Minghao.
She feels stifled as if everything is falling apart but she can't cry, she refused to cry, she feels she'll lose it if she cries. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her turbulent feelings.
"Sorry?! Then... I'm sorry too but I can't accept you." She took off her engagement ring and threw it towards Jun Minghao and turned to leave.
Jun Minghao is shocked, he hurriedly followed but he heard her voice. "Don't you dare follow me! Leave me alone or I will tell your parents directly of what you've done!" Jun Minghao's parents really like Li Ran. If they knew of what he has done they are likely to scold him and might take his position in the company, after all his parents are still the ones in power over the company.
Jun Minghao hesitated and finally let Li Ran walk out thinking that he will just coax Li Ran next time when she is much calmer.
Li Ran walked out of the room, she does not know how she managed it but she was able to return to her car. She sat down and just looked out dazedly. She lost a friend and a fiance in a span of two days. Was it because of her? Is she the one with a problem? Is she really not good enough to be loved?
So many questions on her mind, she shook her head and tried to clear her head. Don't think about it! Li Ran started her car and decided to go to the race track to help keep her mind off things.
