Chapter 23: Stuck in Diagon Alley

Oz opened the pedestal and looking down in he was shocked at what he saw.

Inside the pedestal was a heart and the heart in question was still beating and emanating powerful magic. Oz stared a the heart enamoured with it before turning to the note left beside it. The note read:

'Dragon's Heart'

Oz stared at the note in shock.

'A dragon's heart!? Merlin left me a heart for the ritual?! Its not far fetched to think he came across a dragon or two in his lifetime but this heart still has a pulse! how powerful was the dragon in which Merlin killed?!'

Oz felt himself being drawn in by the heart. As he stared, he felt as if he could hear whispers coming from the heart enticing him.

'... Merlin's connection to dragons is known throughout history, I thought he would have just studied the beasts not slayed them. If this is what he left for me though then I must use it, it would be a shame to waste something so precious'.

Oz looking at the heart within its encased box decided to leave it here in the vault so it would remain safe, when the time arises for him to do the ritual he would come to pick it up.

'So a heart, a book and a ring... You certainly didn't disappoint Merlin. Its strange though... I cant shake this feeling that all of these items mean something. It's almost as if...'

Oz paused his thoughts for a moment, the theory he came up with made no sense yet it stuck in his mind as something Merlin was trying to tell him by leaving him this stuff.

'It's almost as if you were preparing for something, as if you knew in the future something would happen...'.

Oz didn't know if the theory he came up with was even viable but his heart couldn't shake the feeling that it had some substance. Leaving such powerful items for descendants is normal after all so it shouldn't be seen as strange, but the items left by Merlin were things that could push a wizard to their limits.

Even when quickly flicking through the book Oz saw that within the ritual Merlin had notes and knowledge about the human anatomy and those notes were much more advanced than what modern wizards would know. Even modern technology was just on par with Merlin's notes which is a testament to how advanced Merlin was as a wizard. Would such a wizard truly die simply?

'I can think about this all day but will probably never come up with an answer... If Merlin truly is trying to prepare me for something then ill just continue what im doing. Last year taught me to roll with the punches given and expect the unexpected after all, im sure whatever events happen in the future as long as I prepare I should be able to combat them'.

Oz then turned his back away from the pedestal and walked out the Ambrosius Vault.

.

After leaving Gringotts, Oz was now left in a predicament.

'Shit... where do I go? I don't want to go back to the Orphanage but it may be that I have no choice in the matter...'

Oz looked down through the bustling Diagon Alley, a sigh escaping his lips. He wanted to stay in this kind of place or at least a place that was nearby, being in that Orphanage separated him from the wizarding world by miles.

'I still have money left over from the beginning of the year... could I rent a room in the Leaky Cauldron? I'd only be able to last there for a couple weeks though... I'd need more money'.

Even though magic seemed like it reigned supreme in this world Oz still couldn't escape the thing known as money. It plagued him in his past life when he couldn't get a job and in this one he still had nothing to his name.

Oz walked towards the Leaky Cauldron at that, deciding to buy a room for a couple weeks.

'In this couple of weeks I need to come up with some kind of money making scheme... Surely with the knowledge I've gathered in the past while at Hogwarts I can make something thats useful. What's something that was in my past life that was extremely useful that no wizards or witches use...'

As Oz arrived at the Leaky Cauldron door via Diagon Alley he stopped himself.

'Wait... are they even going to let me book a room?'.

Oz stared at the door for a while before deciding to just go for it. The result was luckily in his favour as "Witches and Wizards with a wand are seen as functioning adults in the wizarding community to an extent".

Oz paid in full for a couple weeks and now he was almost broke. Climbing upstairs to his room he began to think.

'I only have a few galleons left and desperately need money in order to stay here for the duration of summer... with the trace on me I cant exactly use magic much as well... Is there a way to circumvent the trace?'.

Oz looked within himself finding a foreign piece of magic attached to him.

'It may be risky... but what If I surrounded it in a barrier? something that made it so any magical activation isn't detected by it. Then I can use magic whenever I want'.

After coming to a decision, Oz carefully started manipulating the magic within him to form a barrier around the trace. Since he wasn't activating a spell and merely moving magic within his body, the trace didn't send any alarms to the ministry. He took his time, slowly encasing the trace within a barrier that would fool its senses.

'This in a way is much like Occlumency, using a barrier with wrong signals to fool anyone trying to pry...'.

After a few hours of work he finally managed to block the trace. Blocking the trace however did take up some of his magic constantly to withhold the barrier, so Oz could probably only use magic in short bursts. Still this arrangement allowed him to now use magic outside of school.

'Thats one roadblock out the way. Now what to do to make money...'.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
BoiGeorge BoiGeorge

I understand to an extent that what Merlin left seems a bit lackluster but any other item I was playing with didnt seem to fit. Merlin as a man heavily connected to dragons, it would make sense he left the most powerful part of a dragon to his descendants. My only other idea I nearly did was a cockatrices eyes, but found they may be too OP as, if you dont know, a cockatrice can kill by staring at people.

This money making scheme of Oz's will be very important to him in the far future. Any and all money he uses will come from this so the Item he needs to create needs to be a good one.

I have some ideas but am up for any suggestions. What do you all think Oz should invent to cement his place within the community?
