Chapter 28: A New Quest
The tunnels that Xagrien and his clansmen built are actually a labyrinth that has countless connected hallways and holes. It isn't that wide, with only one person that can pass one at a time, an absolute hell for claustrophobic people.
However, the walls of this tunnel are made sturdily. Eliminating the fear of the tunnel caving in.
They entered the tunnel that is located in the boundary of Adriha and Yultin Clan and that was approximately about five to six hours ago. It must be nighttime outside.
Xagrien and Luis are carefully treading the winding pathways of the tunnels in the dark.
Of course, Xagrien is in the vanguard. He serves as the guide and the guard. Frying some nocturnal critters and evasive root crawlers with a strike of his purple lightning.
On the leisurely side, the Moon Elf Lord is following from the back. But he isn't having it easy.
If Luis wants to be honest, he will probably rant about how his feet and legs are aching. How his throat is burning with thirst and how diabolic the engineer of this tunnel is!
Luis initially tried to memorize the way but he gave up after trying. The headache is not worth it! Plus the fact that his mental strength is spent.
Luis looked at the muscled back of his new subject of frustration. He didn't expect that a simple shirt could become so sexy when this male wears it!
Muscles are a cheat, d*mn it!
Luis pouted, trying to flatten his arching lips. Xagrien no longer avoids him like a plague. Instead, he is responsive towards Luis and will provide some output during his attempts striking a conversation.
Well, that is enough. Luis knows that Xagrien was shocked after finding out his identity. Maybe he also felt cheated, thinking that Luis purposely hid it from him.
'Not being angry with him should be enough.' Luis once again chanted to soothe his unnamed feelings.
"How do you even know that we are on the right path when it is this dark?" Luis cannot help but ask, his voice full of admiration. "Did you memorize it?"
He is astonished by how Xagrien skillfully walked his way around. The improvised torches that he made have run out ages ago so they do not have any light down here. Despite that, Xagrien is walking around as if it is his bedroom!
Luis knows how difficult this is. He can remember how many times his pinky toes are attacked when he tried to move around his own house when there was a power interruption at night.
His pinky nail even turned permanently dark due to this.
"We made it so I must know." Xagrien flatly answered, sharp, concise and ruthlessly on point.
One who hears such an answer without hearing the question would think that the question is idiotic.
The Moon Elf Lord suddenly heard his confident smile cracking. Is that deliberate sassiness? Or just a plain 'FYI'?
That statement was said in a very masculine way but he can feel a faint male (b)itch energy.
Luis rolled his eyes. Or maybe it was his imagination.
"Next time you answer like that, please make sure to add 'duh' so we could be besties," he deadpanned.
Xagrien suddenly stopped and reached for his arm. He then made a quiet gesture. "Did you hear that?"
"My self-esteem breaking?"
Luis could hardly see Xagrien shaking his head. "No, I think we need to run."
The moon elf lord could sense the seriousness of the matter so he tried to trigger his Tyrant's Eyes. A Moon Elf Lord skill that requires finer control and large amounts of energy to see past things like an x-ray machine.
Xagrien felt the fluctuations of energy. He decisively put his palm over tiny lips.
Luis felt this sudden random action so he opened his eyes wide and asked, "Buwha? Buwha?" (What? Why?)
"You said you are tired. Do not overexert yourself, Moon Elf Lord." Luis can only vaguely see it through the dark but he can know that Xagrien looks serious.
'So should I feel touched?' Luis thought as half of his face is covered by the male's palm.
Xagrien then took his hand away hotly and apologized. Inwardly, thanking the darkness around him or his face that is on the verge of bursting will be exposed.
Luis is about to say something when suddenly, loud and shrill voices sounded from their back. Both of them looked back, there they saw a cluster of red luminous beads that are shining through the dark.
Xagrien fired a thin strip of purple lightning. The purple light from the lightning partially illuminated the strange things hiding in the dark.
From it, Luis saw the familiar hideous form of the countless Root Crawlers. Their ugly proboscis opened and showed a ghastly set of shark-like teeth.
Luis is stupefied. Olyn and the others have informed him about this. Ugly humanoid beasts. He was told that these creatures would not initiate an attack unless they are threatened.
So why are they in swarms while they are unprovoked?
The moon elf lord's question was meant to be unanswered.
A wailing was heard and the beastly growls intensified. As if this was the trigger, the swarm of Root Crawlers poured towards them. Xagrien shot a few small thunderbolts that illuminated the tunnel and killed a few Root Crawlers.
Seeing this almost familiar sight, the swarms of abominable creatures coming at him, the sparks of guns and abilities that killed the zombies, all these memories blended with the reality for Luis and then he felt that something inside him snapped.
Xagrien knows the severity of the situation. He cannot cause a huge explosion or else the two of them will be buried alive.
"Moon Elf Lord! We need to run away or we will be overwhelmed by these creatures." He reached the other's arm but he was flabbergasted when he suddenly felt a huge wave of nature's energy fluctuating from the bearer's body.
Luis suddenly shone with a translucent green light.
'Did the moon elf lord want to handle all these on his own?'
The only thing that he knows about the moon elf lord's power is flying and healing. Xagrien hasn't seen the bearer fight with offensive powers.
Xagrien felt his heart beat faster. He is kind of looking forward to seeing such a sight.
However, when he turned to look at the bearer's face. He can somehow make out that something is wrong. The Moon Elf Lord's gaze is unfocused and his body is rigid.
And then Xagrien felt intense killing intent.
At that moment, Xagrien is filled with worry. Despite the suppression that he is feeling, he urgently went to Luis, wrapped the Moon Elf Lord's arms around his nape and straddled the petite body of the bearer.
Xagrien blushed a little as he felt the chest of the moon elf lord.
He took a deep breath and cleared his mind.
With the swarm of crazed beasts on his back, Xagrien bolted as fast as he could.

Luis opened his eyes with a slight pang of pain in his head. He groggily sat up on the wooden bed while palming his aching forehead.
'Where am I?' Luis asked himself as he looked around. Earthen walls and roofs. It looks so peculiar as few plant roots are visible on the ceiling.
Luis furrowed his brows and tried to recall what happened. However, his memories seemed to be jumbled.
Luis is still stuck in figuring things out when suddenly an unneeded help came up in front of him. The system interface is embellished with festive graphics and confetti.
Seeing the content on the quest box makes his teeth ache.

Luis rolled his eyes after seeing the updated and less messy interface of the system.
Seems like the litch (lady b*tch) system admin did her assignment right this time.
The moon elf lord then thought of something.
Luis cannot help gritting his teeth. Blessing or curse. The moon elf lord is now certain about something.
Slowly but surely, he is being dragged around by the system!
"You f*cking dare to show yourself to me, *sshole!" Luis with passionate hate. Because he is looking at the system interface, he did not realize that Xagrien came in with a pottery bowl.
"Moon Elf Lord, you are-" Xagrien, who was innocent, stopped in shock after hearing the angry voice of the bearer.
Luis himself is startled when he heard Xagrien's voice.
"Did I do anything wrong, Moon Elf Lord?" Xagrien asked with a cold expression.
Luis is shaken after seeing the chilling eyes of Xagrien. He doesn't know what to do or how he will answer the other.
'F*ck,' was the only word he thought before he fake a faint.
