Chapter 3: The Lucky and The Prodigy

After a class' worth of sparring, Soma went to change back into his uniform in the locker room. He, like everyone else in his class, were all bruised up. Hyas went next to him and opened his locker.

"Lyra's intense huh?" Hyas whimpered.

"She beat both of us without breaking a sweat..." Soma said as he shuddered.

"Don't even get me started on Klaus." Apollyon sighed, whose locker was also next to the two.

"Yeah, he's insane even when using the Basic Matrix." said Soma, shocked at the events prior.

"I mean what can you expect? He's rich, so he can have all the instructors he wants." Calder said as he joined the conversation.

"Once I get to use my actual weapon, I swear I can beat that flamboyant little-"

"I cannot wait to serenade you all in the tournament." A boy chanted as he approached the trio. He had a snow white face with silver hair brushed neatly to his right. He let out an aura of nobility and flashiness.

"Oh hey Klaus" Soma said innocently.

"Klaus…Cadenza" Hyas said with pent up frustration.

"Hyas ...Tempesto" Klaus replied with a similar tone.

There was a slight pause, only for the tone to shift when Klaus continued and said "What's up?" with a grin in his face

Soma, Calder and Apollyon, witnessing what seemed to be a massive conflict unfolding before their very eyes, simply took a couple steps away from the two.

"Eh nothing much, how about you" Hyas replied.

The bystanders let out a sigh of relief, where Apollyon said "Geez the atmosphere was heavier than the stress I felt in Reven's class".

"The tournament next week will be great" Klaus said, with confidence.

"I won't plan on losing to you, prim and proper rich boy" Hyas said.

"Don't even forget about me!" Apollyon said.

"Or me!" Soma followed.

As the five chuckled, there were other boys in the locker room quietly changed into their uniforms as well. One of them was a boy who wore a mask. It was a type of mask one would see in a dance hall, which covered the area around his eyes. His black hair was highlighted with purple towards the bangs which were swept to the side. Another male, red haired with a fierce look on his face also quietly changed back into his uniform. There was also a brown haired boy who let out a "tsk" as he heard the five laughed.

"Today's classes were not too bad huh?" Hyas asked.

"Yeah, I'm glad though that classes are finally over though." Soma replied

"I mean combat classes are the last ones because the Professors know that combat is so tiring." Apollyon said.

"You're right, I guess." Soma said as he looked at his locker, neatly decorated. There was a photo of himself with his brother and sister posted at the door, which he smiled at.

"Those are your siblings, right?" Hyas asked.

"Yep, Saiph and Vega, they're twins" Soma replied.

"Aren't they going to Polaris next year to catch up to you?" Hyas chuckled.

"Yeah, they're really excited actually, they'll actually drop by soon for the holidays." Soma smiled.

As Soma and Hyas bid their farewells to Apollyon, the two walked out of the locker room doors and walked around the school. Polaris Academy is neatly lined with a mellow hue of green, with green gears revolving around for decorations. There were thin lines of white light to border the paths towards each door. The cyan paneling with blue holographic boards made him think of how advanced Polaris' technology was. He took a glance at Hyas and took to a frown.

"What's wrong?"

"N-Nothing. It's nothing"

The two walked towards an elevator, much to their disappointment, was crowded. They took a detour to the stairwell instead where Soma asked him a question.

"Hey Hyas, why did you talk to me, on that day?"

"Huh?"

"I mean, why did we become friends anyway? You're the head of the Weather Corps, part of the Tempest branch, you could've been friends with anyone else. I'm just an anomaly in the Tengu clan who got in Polaris because of some dumb luck." Soma pessimistically expressed.

"Really? Is that even a question?" Hyas said.

Hyas Thought for a bit. "Well, to put it simply, you treated me normally."

"Normally?" Soma questioned.

"The thing is, whenever people see my eyes, my clothing, or even being with my cousins, I'm treated like some Thunder God. I don't want that type of attention, y'know?"

Soma nodded, following with what he said.

"All my life I was put on a pedestal, not because of my own effort, but because of my birthright. I just wanted good friends who wouldn't use me for my position in my family. That's why when I saw you two at orientation, the two that didn't really stand out and mostly strayed from the crowd, I decided to join you two."

"I see.." Soma said, processing what Hyas just said.

"Plus, We're best friends aren't we? And besides if Lyra sees you gloomy again, she'll start going into another tangent." Hyas said as he grinned and held out his fist.

Soma awkwardly grinned back, which the two laughed at and bumped fists.

Some time passed and Soma was in his dorm. His dorm had a single bed in the corner with a medium sized desk by a window that overlooked a whole landscape behind the school. His kitchen was rather plain but had equipped his basic needs like a microwave, dishwasher, and utensils.

He sat at his neatly organized mahogany desk that had notebooks, pencils, and other school supplies neatly placed to the right. On the left of the desk was a black lined with orange toolbox that was rectangular and compact. However, when opened, it contained a lot of mechanical parts and a black and what faintly glowing orange circuit covered glove. Soma put it on and it glowed brighter. He then took out a blueprint from the toolbox, a schematic for a mobile object with a weaponized centrifuge.

Soma put on a pair of goggles. "Time to get to work."
