Chapter 5: Words
Listening
Can be a very interesting thought thinking.
You listen, you hear things.
Often things they don't think you heard.
You collect an odd assortment of random facts, thoughts, ideas.
Not always coherent in form, but new and unusual.
It's none of your business really.
But it was left to the wind so what do they care.
Nothing
And sometimes even when they do, you hear it all the same.
Words said to self in a forgotten corner,
Words almost silent whispered under breath,
Words caught from a passing conversation,
All these words you hear.
And so you listen
At times you wish you wouldn't
you couldn't
you didn't
You wish the words wouldn't find you
creeping slowly
landing lightly on your ear
The words you didn't mean to hear
The darkened envied secrets
But you let them be
You don't want to change
You don't want to let go
You enjoy your own little secret
Much safer than their own
For yours is silent
But though unheard it's not unseen
The wise are not all blind
They see you, You
A listener
But not inside your heart
