Chapter 3: Chapter 3:Assassinating Isn't That Easy

"Kourane do not wear your shirt like that. How many times do I have to tell you that a woman-"

"Always needs to look presentable. I know."I interrupt my mother, fixing my shirt.

"Good. I will not have have my children looking like a dog on the side of the road. Especially my daughter."

I roll my eyes. "It's just a shirt, Mother."

"And so what? Those uniforms are hideous as it is. Now apply some color to your lips."

I take out my lip gloss and add some to my lips. "Mother, I think we'll be having an assembly tomarrow."

"Yes, I know. Ian will pick you up and take you to the main campus, alright?"

"Alright."I cross my legs, placing one on top of the other. I stare at the laced-black ankle boots I have on. A present from my dear Mother. I actually like them. And they're not that high so they aren't hard to move in.

It doesn't matter though. Due to my poor vision, I prefer to feel vibrations and hear my surroundings when I fight. It also comes in handy if I ever have a situation where I can't see my opponent.

"We're here, Madams."Ian says from the driver seat.

"Thank you."I tell him. I grab my purse and open the door to the thousand degree heat outside. "Goodbye, Mother."

"Goodbye, Kouarane. Remember to be patient. You have to strike at the perfect time."my mother tells as I step out of the car.

"I know."I shut the door and walk into the horrible building standing before me.

I walk into the classroom, but I don't see the octopus.

"Hey, where's Tentacles?"I ask the class.

"He went to get the things for our science expirement."Nagisa responds.

"Ah. Ok."I respond and sit down.

"So, Kourane."Karma says, sitting down across from me. "Kill anything lately?"

"Oh I have someone in mind. Besides Tentacles."I glare at him.

"No need to be harsh. I'm just trying to make small talk."his voice is filled with sarcasm and he's laughing with his eyes. If that even makes any sense.

"Hm."I look at three boys standing behind the door. Are they planning to stab the octopus when he walk through the door? That's way to obvious.

I scoff and laugh a little. "Idiots."

The door opens and they lunge at the octopus, but, like I predicted, he dodges and starts setting up everything. While they're still trying to knife him.

"Then there's the whole assassination thing."one of the students who was helping the octopus says.

The teacher laughs. "A vital part of my role as teacher I argue. Target teacher:we are not to separate the two."

I look at my painted nails and sigh. It kind of hurts me, being a person who is a very precise and patient, to witness such a pathetic and lame attack.

The three boys are sitting at the front of classroom, tired from trying to kill the teacher.

"Did this guy seriously just dodge three knives while setting up lab?"one of them asks.

"You okay, Maehara?"the boy who was helping the octopus asks one of the tried boys.

"They should know by now that was too obvious. Am I right, teach?"Karma tells our teacher.

"Oh you're right. For once."I add so he doesn't take it like I'm giving him a compliment.

"Well, at least they tried."He shrugs.

"It was still lame. You guys should think more before doing something like that. Morons."I stare right at them.

"Well, I don't see you doing anything."one of them says.

"Becuase I know when to attack. I have patience."

The three of them give me a look. Patience is key to being an assassin. You have to wait for the right moment to strike. And if your first attempt doesn't work, like it usually doesn't, you need a plan B. You have to have patience and resilience when you fail.

"Alright, no need to be negative. They tried and that's what matters. Even if it was a little obvious."the teacher says.

"Pft."I scoff and turn back to my nails.

"Alright let's begin."

~Time Skip to later in class~

"Ta-daa! And That's how we extract the coloring from artificial foods!"The teacher says.

Then he gets all of our extra Pocky Sticks that were leftover from the expirement.

"I'll just take the leftover samples thank you."Then he superspeeds out and cones back again, empty handed.

"Hey! We bought those for ourselves."one of my classmates says.

"Tch."I roll my eyes and they fall to the boy in front of me who's staring. "Stop staring at me. It's wierd."

"I can't help it. There's something about you, Kourane. Something special."Karma responds.

"Yeah? Well maybe it's the fact that I know how to cut you into three pieces without blinking."I shoot back.

"Woooah. You're snappy."

"Would you like me to snap your neck, too? I'd really love to do that."I say, smiling.

"Hey, no need to be harsh."

"I-Uh...Well I-"A voice says from the front of the classroom.

Everybody turns to see a girl standing in front of the teacher.

"Go on, Okuda. Speak up."he tells her.

"This is poison, sir."She says, showing him three glasses of yellow looking liquid. "Would you please drink it?"

Huh? What is she doing? Is she stupid or something?

"Is she serious right now?"I mutter, dumbfounded.

"Looks like it."Karma responds.

"I'm sorry. Is this wierd?"she asks him.

Um, a little bit, yeah.

"It's certainly a very straighforward assassination attempt, I'll give you that."he reaponds to her.

"See, the thing is, sir, I'm not very good at being sneaky. I mean every one else is so good at this stuff. But me, what I'm good at is chemistry and I put my heart and soul into this mixture."She says.

"Um...Okuda, points for throwing in, but no one's that stupid."a boy from across the room says.

"Your heart and soul?"The teacher asks. "Don't mind if I do then!"

He takes them and drinks one.

"Wait, he's actually drinking that?"I ask. "That's all it takes?"

"It might not work. He's not human. Our poison is probably different from his."Karma says.

I look at him. "I know that! But what I'm saying is all I have to do is say that I put my heart and soul into killing him. And if he would take a knife and jab it through him, it would mean the world to me."

I turn back to the teacher, who's making wierd noises. Everyone's muttering and wondering if it'll work.

After a few seconds, the poison takes action and makes him blue and gives him horns.

"You know, I really thought it would do more than that."I say and sit back in my seat. "The other ones probably don't work."

I tug a black strand of hair behind my ear and sigh.

The teacher tells Okuda something, then he swallows another vile of poison.

He makes wierd noises again and stumbles. This time, he turns green and gets wings at the side of his head instead.

"That wasn't much different."I sigh again.

He chugs the last one down, but It's different this time. A purple like flame surrounds him and he yells. About two second later, he goes gray and looks expression less.

People mutter and others stay quiet.

"If you hate me, that's fine. But please don't hate assassinating."The octopus says.

"What's that even supposed to mean?"a guy asks.

What even is it supposed to mean?

"Also young lady, as your teacher I can't overlook the fact that you handled toxic substances unsupervised."The teacher tells Okuda, his usual expression is back.

"Yes, sir. Sorry, sir."She responds gloomy.

"Don't worry. I have an idea. Why don't we work together on a poison that has a little more kick."He suggests.

Um...really? Does she actually believe he'll help her with something like that? No one is THAT stupid.

~Time skip(again)~

I slice at the air with the blades that Liam gave me.

I sense someone coming up to me. I turn slowly and put one blade to their throat and the other to their side.

"It's just me!"Nagisa says.

"Oh."I pull the blades away and take off the blindfold that was on my face.

"How did you know I was coming up to you? You were blindfolded."

"Vibrations. Sounds. Due to my poor vision, I prefer to feel vibrations and hear my surroundings when I fight."I rub my forehead full of sweat and pant. It's so hot up here. It's like an oven.

"That makes sense, but isn't it hard?"

"Yes and no. It is easier to use vision, but since I'm used to training like this, it's not as hard for me anymore."

"Ohh. Guess that works out."he responds. "We have to go back inside by the way."

"Alright, I'm coming. Let me just put my shoes back on."

He nods and walks away.

I really need to start thinking about my next assassination attempt. I can't just throw knives or shoot bullets whenever it looks like he's distracted. I have to do it when I KNOW he's distracted and can't get me. But how do I do that?
