Chapter 75: Lafitte vs Daruma

(A/N: So yeah, bit late. Was called up for work to fill in for a guy that was suddenly fired. Still managed to make some time to write this one. It is a bit on the short side, but the others will be a bit longer. Enjoy the chapter.)

As each person had begun to fight their own opponent, Lafitte stood against his own opponent, a fishmen named Daruma.

The man was rather small, being the smallest fishmen he had seen thus far. Daruma snapped his teeth at him, a distinct laughter coming from him.

"Kjekekeke! So you are the one that's being a nuisance! I will bite you to death!"

Daruma cackled as he jumped up and dug his way underground.

Lafitte smiled lightly at the way his opponent acted. The small critter was enganing in battle before sounding out his opponent.

From what he had seen thus far, Daruma mostly relied on his jaw strenght, digging through the hard ground with his sharp teeth. Then the most plausible way to counteract his way of attack was simple.

Sprouting wings from his back, Lafitte took the the sky, leaving the ground entirely as he observed with his haki where his opponent would be emerging from.

Loading his gun, Lafitte traced the end of the barrel along the path Daruma had previously dug through, waiting patiently for the small fishmen to come out.

Daruma continued to dig through the ground, leaving the ground he had just passed through in a critical state of collapse. Yet he wondered why he hadn't encountered his opponent yet. There weren't any signs of collase either, nor did he feel any tremors in the ground that indicated where his opponent was.

Gnashing his teeth in anger, Daruma increased his speed, intending to come to the surface for but a moment to observe where his opponent could possibly be. A mistake on his part, but an unavoidable one.

The moment he poked his head out, a bullet grazed his cheek, leaving a small but deep gash from where the bullet had passed.

Looking in the direction from where the bullet came from, Daruma screeched in fury, seeing his opponent way out of reach for him to even attack easily.

"Kjekeke! Come down here, you coward! Let me gnash on your bones!"

Daruma yelled, but he was no sooner caught of guard as a few people from his own side attacked him all at once.

Though he had no problem attacking his own men, it took a while before he had taken them all down before another group came upon him. And while that was happening, the bullets coming at him didn't stop at all.

Not even digging beneath the ground helped, as a few of the men that attacked him followed him swiftly into the tunnels to attack him.

What use were subordinates if they worked against you.

From above the ground, Lafitte smiled brightly, firing bullets whenever he could.

"I hope you enjoy my present. They were hard to pick, as it would be a shame if they were too weak."

Lafitte muttered, firing another bullet and hitting Daruma in the arm right at the moment he emerged from the ground again.

"Gyaa!"

Daruma screamed out, as he rolled on the ground while holding his injured arm.

"Hate, Hate! I will kill you!"

Daruma repeatedly spoke these words as he grabbed a pill from his pocket. Seeing the familiar pill, Lafitte patiently waited to see what it would do. After all, it would be best if the effects were observed now and shared as soon as possible with the others.

Daruma swallowed the pill, which turned his eyes red and enlarged his muscles a bit.

"I see. Strength enhancement is it. Though that is all it is. It would be bad if it increased it even more than this. How fortunate for me."

Lafitte said, nodding his head in affirmation.

Daruma wasn't even a real threat at all.

Daruma himself didn't seem to see it that way though, as he laughed in euphoria, snapping his sharp teeth loudly as he tore he way through the hypnotized fishmen around him.

"Kyekeke, You're going to die, scum!"

Daruma yelled as his body was bathed in fire. He rushed forward, his speed a lot faster than before.

Jumping from rock to rock, Daruma launched himself into the air to Lafitte, opening his mouth wide as he intended to take a bit out of Lafitte.

"Fireball Cutter!"

Seeing the burning Daruma shooting towards him, Lafitte dodged to the side. Even then, Lafitte could feel the heat radiating from Daruma, as his feathers were singed.

"It's lights out for you."

Lafitte mumured, pointing his gun to the latter his back. With a single shot, Lafitte took down the burning figure of Daruma, who crashed to the ground. The fire on his body sputtered for a while before being extinguished.

Daruma himself lay unconcious on the ground, blood seeping from a non fatal wound. The bullet had passed straight through, having missed all vital area's. Still, it led to a lot of bloodloss, making the fishmen faint.

"I wonder if the fights of the others were as one sided as mine. Though I had an easy opponent."

Saying these words to no one in particular, Lafitte called up the others and shared the intel for those who could listen to it.

Humming in a good mood, Lafitte dragged Daruma with him towards the royal guards, not even bothering with tying the guy up, as it would take a while before he would even wake up.

"Seems like the backlash is rather severe as well."

Continuing on his way, Lafitte dumped Daruma at the intended destination and went to look for the others. They could use some help. Their opponents were fishmen after all, though he doubted if the captain and Ban had any need of assistance.

They were quite the monsters themselves after all.
