Chapter 3: 0003: To the Theater
Roman was heading downstairs when Manny contacted him. Manny suggested that he stop and see Coop Dennison to get some working gear. Roman was stopped by a JTF officer as he reached the bottom of the stairs. The woman had long curly brown hair tied in a ponytail from the back of her cap. Her skin was lightly tanned and she was well toned.
"Are you the Division Agent who helped stop the Hyena attack," she asked.
"Yes. I'm Agent Roman Hunter."
"I'm Lieutenant Lindsey Hamilton. I wanted to thank you personally. If you need anything I'll be happy to help you."
"Anything," Roman asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Anything," Lindsey replied with a mischievous smile.
"Do you know anything about Agent Kelso?"
"She's smart, tough and capable. She's a real badass. If she'd been here, then you would've went through those Hyena bastards twice as fast."
"Thanks Lt. Hamilton. I'll see you around," Roman saluted.
"Please call me Lindsey."
Roman smiled and nodded. He entered the main area where Coop Dennison and Adam Shipley were set up. Adam was drinking some coffee and looking through his inventory. Coop seemed to be waiting for Roman expectantly.
"Manny told me to see you. I need to get some new tech. What do you have available?"
"I have scanners, turrets, hives, chem launchers, fireflies, seekers, drones and shields. What do you need to help you do your job," Coop asked.
"I want to eliminate the enemy as fast as possible and I don't want to spend my time hunting for them. Can you hook me up with some Cluster Seeker Mines and a Striker Drone?"
"Sure. Give me a minute."
Coop tapped in a few things on his laptop. He walked through a door and returned with two crates. He placed the first crate on the table and opened it. Several spheres were inside. He placed the second crate on the table and opened it. A drone was folded up inside.
"Now this is what I'm talking about," Roman said as he placed the Seeker Mines in a holder that attached to his backpack. He hooked the drone to his backpack where it would be able to instantly activate when needed. Coop closed the crates and set them on the floor. Roman shook his hand.
"Come back if you ever need to change your loadout," Coop said.
"Definitely."
"Hey Agent. I have the biggest selection in DC," Adam said between sips of coffee.
"Maybe later."
Adam raised his cup to Roman. Roman stepped outside the White House. He looked around. The JTF had begun clean up. Several JTF members nodded and saluted appreciatively.
"Hey Manny. How do I get to the Theater Settlement?"
"The Theater Settlement is to the east. You'll probably run into some trouble along the way. You'll have to do this block by block, but I'm sure you'll be fine," Manny replied over comms.
Roman chuckled. He tapped his watch to pull up a holographic map. He set a waypoint for the Theater settlement. He started following the GPS and keeping an eye out for trouble. It was too long after leaving the White House grounds that he spotted a couple of Hyenas.
He swung his P416 up and began to shoot. Several shots peppered the Hyenas. They both hit the ground and more Hyenas began to rush out. Roman ducked into cover behind a car. He reached back and grabbed a Seeker Mine. He tossed it towards the Hyenas.
Roman tapped his watch and the Seeker Mine began moving. Several smaller mines rolled off in pursuit of different targets. The first one exploded and flipped a Hyena over a car. The second and third exploded back to back eliminating two more enemies. The last Hyena hid behind a car, but the Seeker mine rolled underneath the car exploding at his feet.
Roman recovered a couple of transmissions that gave him a good idea of what the Hyenas were about. He continued to head towards the Theater settlement. He came across another group of Hyenas after entering Downtown East. He activated his Drone. He sent it after the nearest Hyena. The thug crumbled under the combined assault of Roman and the Striker Drone.
"It's a drone," one of the Hyenas shouted.
Roman moved to cut off a Hyena trying to get a flanking position. The Striker Drone cut down another Hyena. Roman killed the flanking Hyena with a shot to the neck followed by a headshot. The Striker Drone had switched to its next target. Roman spotted a Hyena trying to throw a grenade. He fired a shot hitting her in the shoulder and she dropped the grenade. A moment later she went flying through the air.
"That never gets old," Roman said as he deactivated the drone with his watch.
ISAC alerted him to an Echo. Roman found the data synchronization point and activated the Echo. The area filled with holographic imagery. It showed the murder of Mateo Ortega while his brother, Manny was unable to save him. Roman sighed as he left the Echo behind.
Roman continued down the street and encountered a group of three Hyenas. He proceeded to take them out ruthlessly. When he was about 200 meters away from the Theater Settlement he found a civilian patrol fighting against a group of Hyenas. Roman assisted the patrol in taking out the Hyenas.
"You're coming up on the Theater Settlement. The woman who runs it is named Odessa Sawyer. Try to stay on her good side," Manny said.
Roman approached the location marked by the GPS. The settlement was using buses and trucks to form a mobile barricade/gate for entry. A truck started to pull forward allowing him access to the settlement. He was greeted by a member of the Theater's militia and guided to the roof to meet with Odessa.
Roman looked around. They had a decent amount of space, but he could tell that there was still work to do. He was greeted with smiles from most of the residents. Apparently, Kelso and the Division Agents in D.C. had made a favorable impression. Roman knocked on Odessa's door and entered.
There were family pictures on a table by a laptop. There was also an open bottle of liquor. Roman glanced over to the woman looking out a window. She had a chocolate complexion with a muscular frame. Her posture was very militaristic. He noticed that she had a prosthetic foot.
"If you're looking for Agent Kelso she just left. I should've gone with her, but I'd only slow her down," Odessa said as she walked to the table and poured herself a drink. "I know you've got your own problems to deal with. But those Hyena motherfuckers took my little girl. To get to me. If you can help, I'll be in your debt. And I always pay my debts."
"Just tell me where the party is," Roman said.
"The Grand Washington Hotel," Odessa said as she took another drink.
Roman nodded and left. He set a waypoint for the hotel and ISAC determined the best route to take. He headed downstairs with a new mission. Rendezvous with Agent Kelso and save Odessa's daughter. Killing Hyenas would just be icing on the cake.
