Chapter 7: An Dishonorable Tradition.

[Discount God (EX): You have a completely random chance of obtaining a discount between 90% to 99% on a completely random item (the remaining time for these offers will not exceed an hour).

-"It seems like you're really favored by a god or… perhaps they're apologizing."]

My excitement couldn't help but be tempered by that curious message from the talent.

(It's just a damn game, maybe that's their way of saying you're a lucky bastard).

Putting aside that eerie message, a talent that gives you discounts of that magnitude?

(Crazy, absolutely crazy).

A 99% discount is practically free, isn't it?

"I wonder what discount I'll get first."

Surprisingly, I didn't have to wait long to find out.

[Once-in-a-lifetime deal! 99% off on:

-Mansion in an ultra VIP area, fully furnished and compatible with Technological Chips.

Value: 1,000,000 credits / 500,000 premium credits.

-Remaining time of the offer: 5:59]

"If the value with the 99% discount is a million... is 100 million the real value?" I calculated in my mind the actual value.

50 million in premium credits.

(That's a steal!)

I seriously considered accepting this offer.

(I need a house anyway).

VR games of this kind are somewhat different in these aspects, as your character requires a well-conditioned resting place to maintain high performance.

It sounds stupidly obvious, but there are some idiots who complain about these kinds of aspects without realizing that's the point of VR games.

(Plus, this game promises a level of realism never seen before).

Convinced that this would be a good investment, I decided to accept the offer.

[-Remaining time of the offer: 2:59]

"Accept."

[Congratulations on your purchase!:

-Mansion in an ultra VIP area, fully furnished and compatible with Technological Chips.

Do you want to teleport to the location of your property?]

"Accept," curious about what the place would be like, I agreed.

*Fushh!

--

*Fshh!

After the teleportation light dissipated, I could see the place...

I stood facing a street. Yes, this place was surprisingly properly paved.

(The tower looks very close, I guess this place must be somewhere in Genesis).

Now, the most important thing...

"Where's my mansion?"

I couldn't see it anywhere, although I could see a rather simple-looking gate in front of me, which upon approaching showed this message.

[Your mansion is under construction!]

"I see..." I said slowly and looked beyond the gate.

A building a few meters away was glowing blue and constantly blinking, gradually changing its structure.

(That explains a lot).

I understood why the buildings in the city behaved that way earlier.

(They are representations of what could be there).

Somewhat like previews, which only change and become accessible when you buy and customize them.

(The place is quite spacious).

The field around the blue building was completely clear, giving a good view of the place.

(With this, I'll look like a super-rich guy).

"Oh? New neighbors?" At that moment, I heard a voice behind me.

Turning my head, I could see the owner of that voice: a blond guy with blue eyes walking towards me at a relaxed pace.

(Neighbors, huh?)

"Hey, did you also buy something around here?" I asked casually.

"Yeah, my place is relatively nearby. I'm Luke, what's your name?" The guy, Luke, responded casually as he pointed in the direction where his house was located.

(Friendly, with a casual demeanor, what does this guy want?)

"Silent Shadow," I replied, using a similarly casual tone.

"Silent Shadow, huh? Not a name I recognize. Are you new to VR?" he asked, scratching his chin.

It wasn't information I cared to hide, so I responded, "Yeah, I am. Heard about this game and wanted to try something new, you know, something fresh," I tried to boast, hinting that maybe I was someone with a lot of experience.

"I see!" he said, lightly tapping his left fist into his right palm, and continued, "Cool! It's always good to have some nice folks around here. You know, some people are a bit... difficult..."

(Seems like he knows more people around here...)

"Do you know anyone else around here?" I asked, a bit intrigued by the nearby people.

(They must be folks with a lot of spare cash. After all, this is a 'VIP' area.)

"Well, you know, some millionaires have... eccentric behaviors," he replied, grimacing, as if he'd had a rough time.

"Eccentric... yeah, that's the right word," I replied, nodding in agreement.

How could Luke understand what he meant by 'eccentric'?

That's because the university I attend is one of the best in the city, if not the best.

There, you come across different types of people, and among them, some very, VERY wealthy individuals.

(Actually, I have a surprisingly high number of them as classmates.)

Most are as nice as Owen, but among them, you find really... eccentric people.

"Phew! You know? I wonder if I should include you with those people," Luke asked me as he looked ahead.

(Me?, eccentric?)

"What do you mean?" I asked, puzzled, not paying attention to what was happening behind me.

"Well... your way of speaking is a bit humble compared to what you bought," he replied, pointing in the direction of my "mansion."

Turning around, I understood a bit what he meant.

(Oh my God...)

A freaking huge mansion could be seen from a distance, and not only that, even the gate that had a simple appearance changed, now looking quite refined and with a change to a golden color.

:o

I couldn't help but feel stunned.

Surely, I was expecting something big, but not this big.

[- 85% of players have completed the tutorial.]

[The tower has finally opened! Good luck to the Earth race!]

At that moment, the minimum number of players needed for the tower to open was reached.

[A beginner's package has been delivered to all players from the tower!]

(Huh?)

At that moment, I finally noticed the existence of a section in my field of vision.

With a hand gesture upwards, a menu appeared.

[Inventory][Global Chat][Genesis Store] [Tower Store][Others]

[Options]

(Well, with all that's happened, it's normal not to pay attention to this), I thought simply and immediately went to claim the beginner's package in the inventory.

[You have opened the beginner's package!]

At that moment, a couple of items appeared in front of me.

A small backpack, two bottles of water, something that looked like... military rations?, and most importantly.

"Hey, look, we got one of these so easily," at that moment, Luke had the last item in his hands and handled it carelessly.

"Hey, be careful where you're pointing that!" I reproached him for what he was doing.

A 9mm caliber pistol was in his hands, and yes, that was one of the last items.

"A magazine with a capacity of 17 rounds... holster... doesn't that seem strange?" I asked Luke.

"Why? Hot weapons are almost the hallmark of our civilization," he replied, still handling it carelessly.

"Doesn't that mean the other civilization would have something similar?" I asked what was on my mind.

"Oh..." upon hearing that logic, Luke couldn't respond.

The tower clearly stated that we would compete with a race of similar level.

If they're giving us weapons at the beginning, doesn't that mean the other race has something similar to compete with us?

"I think you're overthinking it. Maybe they have tough skin? Just gotta be careful," in the end, Luke returned to his carefree appearance.

(Yes, am I overthinking it? It's just a game after all, what's the worst that could happen?)

"I guess you're right."

In the end, I stopped thinking about it.

"More than anything, do you want to form a group? You know, two heads are better than one," Luke proposed.

(There's no reason to refuse; in these cases, it's better to have an ally.)

"Sure, why not?" I said amiably.

(I can enter the mansion later anyway.)

"Great, then let's head to the tower," Luke said as he walked towards the tower.

--

We walked and talked a bit until the entrance of the tower became visible, but before entering, a certain group of people caught my attention.

"Hey, look over there," I said to Luke, who was beside me.

"Huh? They're just people arguing," he responded without understanding.

Yes, at a relatively close distance from the entrance, two groups of people (or so it seemed) were arguing, but here's a small yet incredibly important detail to highlight.

"They're arguing with guns in hand," I said, pointing out that small but incredibly significant detail.

"I see... and?" Luke responded without comprehending.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes.

(This guy... isn't very bright, huh?)

"What do you think would happen if... I don't know, someone fired?" I hinted.

"I understand what you mean, a shootout, right? But do you really think those guys are dumb enough to waste their ammo like that?" Luke responded with a slightly weak argument.

"Well..."

*Bang!

At that moment, a gunshot rang out.

[ 'Jack The Pirate' has died ]

"Oh my god. You shot Jack! You damn bitch, die!"

*Bang!

*Looking at each other.

"Take cover!" I shouted as I took cover and brandished my weapon.

*Bang!

[--- has died ]

*Bang!

[--- has died ]

*Bang!

*Bang!

[--- has died ]

"Oh shit! Oh shit!" Luke exclaimed alarmed as he watched this conflict escalate.

*Bang!

*Bang!

[--- has died ]

"Hey! Look! A filthy PK (player killer) group!"

"Kill them!!!"

*Bang!

[--- has died ]

*Bang!

[--- has died ]

*Bang!

[--- has died ]

*Bang!

--

And so, the Earthlings began their path to conquest, with a dishonorable tradition.

Killing each other.
