Chapter 9: Infiltrate 2

"The enemy only has physical attacks.

Raticate Level 20

Gender: Male

Attacks: Super Fang, Bite, Quick Attack, Tackle

That's what I saw in my system.

Therefore, my strategy was already clear.

"A remarkable feat; you evolved quickly as a rookie," our instructor Marcus said.

"Do it, Jackson."

"Let's go, Jackson," cheered my rival's gang.

"Ha, so you caught a bird of ill omen."

"Who do you call a retarded bird of ill omen?" Corvus did not take it very well.

"Raticate destroys him by combining Quick Attack and Hyper Fang," said Jackson confidently.

"Up," I replied simply.

Raticate jumped, but he couldn't reach my Pokémon.

"It looks like I win," I said with an arrogant smile.

"You still have to touch my Pokémon," Jackson replied.

"I need it, you say? Corvus, Toxic in the form of a sphere."

Corvus threw a condensed toxic ball at the rat, poisoning it.

"Damn," surprisingly, I also understood the rationale."

So the rat also had a conscience.

Good to know.

"Now, Smoke Screen."

My Murkrow released a cloud of poorly condensed toxic smoke in front of him, blocking the rat's vision.

If I were anyone else, maybe I would see this dishonorable tactic.

But unfortunately, I'm Neon Ironborn/Mello Snow, so...

In fact, I already cheated with my system.

At the moment, this fight is a draw.

Until Raticate ends up weakened by poisoning, that is.

"You can quit now," I suggested to Jackson.

"The fight isn't over yet," Jackson told me.

"Yes, he did; I'm not going to order anything other than staying on the roof."

"You—coward," he growled at me. "Raticate, are you okay?"

"Yeah"

I was shocked by the exchange; I thought he was a complete idiot.

"Corvus, don't lower your altitude; we already won, don't you think?"

"Affirmative"

Corvus had the same honor as me; none

"Do a dash, a quick attack, and Hyper Fang again; try to catch it."

The attempt was again in vain.

"Poison barrier, again," I said.

"Grrrr." The enemy Raticate and Jackson growled.

"It's okay to wait any longer; it's unnecessary. Mello Snow is the winner again."

"But.."

Marcus interrupted Jackson, "Do you have a ranged attack? Because if you don't, your Pokémon doesn't need to suffer anymore."

Doubt invaded Jackson, but he came to his senses. "Damn," he kicked the air, "abandonment." He finished picking up his Pokéball and returning it to Raticate.

"Good, Mello, very good." This time he no longer spoke condescendingly to me. I earned a little respect from him. "Now your last fight will be against Julius, the other one with a ghost guy."

Another one with a ghost guy! We thought he was the only one.

Julius was a guy my age with blue hair who was handsome and chivalrous. I still don't get used to seeing colored hair.

I didn't let slip the fact that Marcus let the tip slip before the fight. Has his respect for me increased so much that he now helps me?

Maybe it's my imagination.

Now the question is which to choose: my strongest Pokémon or my Pokémon with a type advantage.

I guess I'll take Konrad out with this being my starter.

ghost duel

"Okay, take out your Pokémon."

"Go, Gastly."

"Konrad."

Gastly Level 22

Gender: Male

Attacks: Lick, Grudge, Curse, Evil Eye, Hypnosis, Confusing Lightning, Sucker Punch

Shit, at least it doesn't have Shadow Ball.

Again, I looked at my Shuppet.

Shuppet Level 25

Gender: Male

Moves: Shadow Ball, Shadow Sneak, Will-O-Wisp, Feint, Knock Off.

I wonder what 'Sucker Punch' will look like in this world.

The instructor took me out of my thoughts and said, "Start."

"Don't let him get close, Shadow Ball."

"Gastly, stop it with a Lick."

The gas ball gave the Shadow Ball a lick, and as the latter was weak, it managed to stop it effectively.

"Go on."

"Do the same thing as before until he gets tired."

Shit, at this rate, we will lose.

"Shuppet closes the distance with a Shadow Sneak and uses Knock Off."

To my fear, I saw my opponent smile.

"Sucker Punch/low blow."

The Gastly moved at a speed undetectable to my eye and lunged at my companion.

Low blow vs. knock-off

The exchange ended in a tie; both Pokémon retreated, suffering serious damage.

Given this, I only had one strategy left.

"Konrad, do you remember the first move I taught you? Fell Shadow/Shadow Sneak and use it."

The attack I commanded was Will-o-Wisp/Will-O-Wisp.

Status attack.

My theory was that using a Sucker Punch status attack wouldn't activate

But this was a theory; time for practice.

"Sucker Punch."

Fortunately for me, he was right; it was like in the games.

"Take this!" Konrad used Will-O-Wisp on Gastly; Sucker Punch's super boost didn't activate.

"Wide distance with Shadow Sneak, from there block his path with Shadow Ball.

Konrad took advantage of the confusion and moved away from the ghost.

"How!? You didn't use Disable!" I saw my opponent surprised.

I kindly replied, "Sucker Punch is only activated with physical and special moves; it does not work with status moves."

At this point, she could only grind her teeth.

"Gastly casts Confusing Lightning."

"Block it with a Shadow Ball."

The Shadow Ball destroyed Julius' confused beam and went in the direction of my opponent, who blocked it with his tongue.

That Confusing Lightning bolt was a desperate move.

"It hurts," the Gaslight lamented the burn.

"The strategy is simple, Konrad; do not stop him from approaching by any means."

"Damn it," I heard Julius curse.

I would say the same: in this situation, you have nothing to do but take risks.

"Gastly, come closer and lick him."

As I predicted, Julius could only risk.

"But it's in vain," I said.

A small Shadow Ball impacts Gastly's weakening.

"The winner of the third fight is Mello Snow."

When I finished saying it, Marcus approached me and grabbed my shoulder. "Well done. You trained those Pokémon well. I expect great things from you. Now watch the battles of your future opponents, son."

Marcus totally seems to like me now, which makes sense considering his mission here is to spot potential, and I guess I did a pretty good job.

Not to brag, but I think I did a great job.

"Dude, that was spectacular. Do you want us to steal something later?" Ledger caught me as soon as I left the field.

"Of course, I know a fruit store; the owner doesn't know the whole thing, and my Pokémon love it," he answered.

I was on tenterhooks waiting to see the last 28 fights of the season, but it was a disappointment.

He had witnessed time and again monotonous battles between novice trainers and their common Pokémon, such as Rattatas, Zubats, and Ekans. However, my patience was finally rewarded when two Pokémon stood out among the sea of mediocrity.

A trainer deployed a Gligar, and I didn't wait to see it with my system.

Gligar

Gender: Female

Moves: Sand Attack, Knock Off, Poison Sting, Strength

While I was looking at Pokémon, I heard a voice in my head.

Congratulations! After using your analysis skill 100 times, you can now see the hidden abilities and skills of Pokémon.

Hmm

I was unbalanced for a moment by the stereo voice, but I managed not to scream from fright and to remain calm and activate the now-called analysis again.

Gligar Level 12

Hidden Ability: Poison Heal

Poison Heal!!!

That was exactly the Pokémon I wanted for a glider; I could steal it.

To my double surprise, the Gligar lost to a Rattata.

Although it was a Level 16 Rattata, it was normal for the highest-level Pokémon to win.

The trainer, Alex, removed the Pokémon in anger. "Damn Pokémon, you're only good for being a pest," the trainer said grumpily.

According to Ledger, Alex lost all three Pokémon battles, and every time he lost, he cursed his Pokémon, blaming him.

He may be able to offer you a trade.

The second fight that captured my attention was between an energetic and powerful Poochyena. This Dark Pokémon only demonstrated brute strength, but it was the highlight of the competition.

The Pokémon had learned to crush and was at its peak of strength in this tournament. The Poochyena's rival had learned to crush and body slam.

And from what I heard from Ledger, he was taking out the competition by biting

Poochyena Level 17

Gender: Female

Moves: Sand Attack, Bite, Roar, Embargo.

Ability: Run Away

This Pokémon was a prodigy; it shouldn't have those moves at level 17, another disagreement with the games, plus its ability made it faster than any other Pokémon in the competition.

He was a fearsome opponent.

After the results, I could see the fight list.

He had broken the streak of Julius and Jackson, leaving them in the middle of the table; the Poochyena trainer, Garfield, had won the three fights; the Gligar coach had lost the three fights; he was in the last ones.

"Tomorrow we will triple the fights; in fact, the sessions will not only be on Tuesdays; you have to come on Thursdays and Saturdays."

With that, we end today's session with me in the lead.

Good

I spent my free time with Ledger, who, by the way, has a Zubat; he was a good guy, a thief like me, good at stealing.

I was going home again. Everything was going well until...

Looker

"Don't you know how to knock on the door?"

"You did well, kid; you even charmed your superior."

"Thank you," I replied. "I have that effect on people. Shall I give you back the microphone?"

"Keep the microphone; use it when you go to your meetings. I came to say goodbye."

"Oh, how about your research with Ariana Tanaka?"

"We have found irregularities."

I didn't say more; I hoped my boss heard it. I didn't lie to the executive.

"Stay safe even though you are young, and you are a valuable asset to international police."

"That's what I plan to do; anyway, your job is dangerous."

"I do what I can."

I finish Looker before closing.

And so the day ended; I freed Corvus and Konrad.

"Did you hear it right? I didn't lie about the executive."

"He said that he detected irregularities, but it's okay; I'm formally part of the team."

"And your Corvus?"

"I already chose when you taught me those moves, but you must know something."

"And that is."

"I can't evolve. My previous trainer fed me an eternal stone without knowing what he did."

"Better," I answered truthfully.

"Hey!"

"Your trainer is a fool who couldn't see your potential, plus your evolution loses its joking ability."

"Then it's all very convenient." Corvus smiled at me.

"Very nice talk. Now give me Pinya Berries, two for every fight won. Come on, come on."

"Okay, okay, be patient; they're in the drawer on the right."

"Now what are we going to do?

"We will continue on the Rocket Team until it is no longer useful."

"I thought it was best too," Corvus responded.

"By the way, I have noticed a certain fact that makes me curious."

"And which one would it be?" Konrad asked, eating his Pinya Berry.

"The Zubats and Rattatas and others I saw today did not show the same intelligence as you two."

"That's because I'm a crow."

It makes sense the crows were intelligent; there was another crow-type Pokémon in Galar.

"and your Konrad."

"We Shuppets and Banettes are also intelligent, plus Pokémon become more intelligent as they evolve or with the passage of time, so a mere Zubat that is less than a year old will not give you a lesson, my human friend."

"And how old are you?"

"15 years"

I am almost the same age as the body I am currently possessing.

"In that case, I'm not surprised that you're so intelligent. Good night; don't get into trouble; tomorrow will be a training day."

Look at my account: 40000 new Pokédollars, total money: 46553

With this, I could buy the six Pokéballs and still have a lot of money left over.

I blessed my luck. Shuppet fed on emotions, although he could appreciate the taste of food. Corvus ate meat and fruits but ate like someone his size.

That is to say, now he himself was rich, enough to raise a Pokémon for a year.

I smiled; my luck was improving!

Although, wait, we didn't discuss my salary!

I thought about writing the names of the Pokémon attacks in English in this story.
