Chapter 2: The day everything changed

She stood on the balcony of the fourth floor just a week before her wedding. Mi Soo held her phone tightly in her hand contemplating whether or not to call him again.

"The person you are calling is unavailable and unable to pick up your call. Do hold on or call back later..." Mi Soo's grip on her phone tightened as her heart ached.

"... You have reached the voicemail..."

At first, she was quiet but then spoke, "Seo Joon, it's me again..." this was the twenty-seventh time she was calling him today but he wasn't picking up her calls.

"I'll be getting married in a few days... I've said this before..." she pulled her hair frustratedly.

"Darn it! Can you just pick up or call me back? It's been two weeks already... I don't want to get married, not to anyone else..." she crouched down with her back against the railings. Her eyes could not even supply any more tears because that was all she had been doing for the past two weeks.

She hung up and wiped her nose before bowing her head on her knees sadly. She used to have hope that he would come and get her and that they would elope together but he never even replied her messages and voicemails.

Just then, her phone rang. It was her best friend Cha Mi Jo. Reluctantly, she answered the call. "Mi Soo, are you okay?" she asked worriedly.

"I'm fine." She wiped her nose and smiled slightly. There was a sigh from the other end after she said this.

"Don't do anything, I'll be there in two minutes." Mi Jo was on the steering as she was talking but Mi Soo didn't notice the panic in her friend's voice. Apparently, Mi Jo read the news and didn't want her friend to see it.

The lines got disconnected and just then, a notification popped on Mi Soo's phone. At first, she was not interested but after catching a glimpse of it, she couldn't help but read the whole story.

The heading wrote, 'Park Seo Joon, the heir of YSG entertainment industry is going back to the States with his new bride.' when Kim Mi Soo read this, she couldn't believe her eyes for a second. She blinked repeatedly and rubbed her eyes to be sure that she was not mistaken.

He had been in the country all this while but ignored her messages and now that he was leaving, he didn't even bother to reach out to her? And what did they mean by wife?

She read more about the story but couldn't even finish before dropping her phone accidentally. Her tired eyes were heavy and the tears that her body could no longer manufacture fell again.

She closed her eyes and stood up but lost her footing and fell. Even the railings could not stop her from falling. At first, she panicked but as her body fell, she had no regrets. Everything ended so quickly and she blacked out.

Cha Mi Jo just arrived at the hotel where Mi Soo was staying only to see so many people gathered at the entrance. "Someone has fallen from the fourth floor."

When she heard people talking about it, she panicked because Mi Soo was also on the fourth floor but she knew her friend was not suicidal.

She pushed her way between the crowd and when she saw the cloth of the person that was being put in the ambulance, she almost passed out.

Mi Jo ran to the ambulance to get a closer look and when she saw her friend's lifeless body lying there, she placed her palm over her mouth and her eyes widened in disbelief.

"Do you know the lady?" emergency services asked.

Mi Jo did not hear at first because of how shocked she was but she was asked the same question again and she nodded in affirmation.

"Get into the car." they requested and she went with them to the hospital. With the view of things, she doubted that Mi Soo had any chance of survival.

She held on to Mi Soo's hand and looked at her face that had oxygen attached to her nose. 'Why did you do this?' she asked worried for her friend.

Soon, they got to the hospital and rushed to the E.R but she was soon transferred to the O.R for operation. Mr and Mrs Kim also got to the hospital as fast as they could.

Mr Kim was calm, unlike his wife who looked as though she was about to die. It took approximately 12 hours before the surgeon came out.

"The operation has ended but the patient's life is not out of danger yet. It's a miracle that she's still alive. The next five hours are very risky but I promise we'll do our best," he assured and walked away leaving the family devastated.

Everyone sat there with a sad face. No one could muster up the courage to say a word.

It was a rainy day in province S, Yoon Eun Hee was on her way home after winning a case in court. She was so ecstatic as this was the first case she was taking on and it was successful. Unfortunately, she never got the chance to reach home.

Eun Hee was on her phone when the bus suddenly stopped. Someone had packed in front of their bus and everyone on the bus panicked because of the sudden incident.

The driver tried to reverse because he knew what could happen to him and the other people on the bus if he didn't hurry but unfortunately, there was a big tractor behind the bus.

This was a lonely alley and there was no guarantee that anyone would pass there for a while. Just like every other person, Eun Hee was scared. This route used to be known for notorious robbers but that stopped a long time ago.

The people in the car in front of the bus came out with guns and masks and then made their demands. "There is someone on the bus that we need. Everyone... down"

The driver looked at the passenger scared of what might happen. He got off the bus and so did every other person. One by one, they came out of the bus and stood in a single file.

The men walked around and checked the faces of the passengers to know who exactly they were looking for. They would have just fired at the entire bus but they didn't want any mistakes and wanted a clean job.

Eun Hee was a little worried that she might be the one they were looking for because she stood against the mayor's son in court but silently prayed that she was mistaken.

"Yoon Eun Hee!" one of the men shouted and her heart almost stopped beating. She couldn't believe that this could be the end of her.

One of the men in masks pulled her out after recognising her from a photo he held. "found her." her heart began to beat faster and faster as they took her into their car.

"Please sir, I don't know anything. I didn't do anything. Where are you taking me?" she pleaded but they wouldn't listen.

"Everyone, get on your knees. Your face to the ground and your hand on your head. Count to 1000 if you don't want your brains to be blown off." the robbers yelled and the passengers did as he said. Everyone was scared for their lives.

The robbers drove to a mountainous area where they asked Eun Hee to get out of the car and she couldn't stop crying and pleading that they spared her life.

As she begged on her knees spotted, she a tattoo on the hand of the man. The tattoo was similar to all of them. Suddenly, one of the men stepped forward with a gun in his hand.

"You're whining too much. Fine. I'll do you a favour, stand up and run for your life. You have till the count of ten." he smiled.

Without wasting a second, Eun Hee began to run. She begged the heavens to spare her life and cried as she heard the man counting from behind her.

"Five, six..." he counted loudly and she begged the deities and she ran fast. 'Why is he counting so quickly?' She knew that they weren't going to let her off the hook that easily but decided to try her best.

"Nine... Ten!"

"Boom" she heard the sound before feeling the pain in her back. She stopped in her steps and looked down at her stomach. She couldn't believe that she wouldn't even get to see her mother and father. In this mountainous area, they might never even find her body.

"Boom!" another bullet hit her upper spine and she heard the sound of thunder. Her body moved sideways and she fell from the high side of the mountain. Eun Hee's body collided with rocks until she finally fell to the bottom.

The men at the top didn't plan for her to fall from the top but it seemed better to them that way. "She's certainly dead. Call the mayor and tell him that we got her."
