Chapter 20: Pain and Anger
After Yusei and Greiger's duel it was Akiza vs. Shira. Kai sat down next to Amelia and watched Akiza's amazingly short duel. Kai wasn't afraid to hide his disappointment either since Akiza won in only three turns without taking any damage.
Kai: "That was so underwhelming!"
Amelia: "What do you mean? I thought it was a good duel."
Kai: "Yeah for you but I was looking forward to that since I thought he'd put up more of a fight than that! To think I was actually excited...hmph!"
Kai slumped in his seat pouting as his hopes of seeing Shira duel were crushed. Akiza left the stage as Shira was carted off because of the psychic powers Akiza used in her duels which left him covered in multiple cuts and scrapes.
Amelia: "I hope that guy will be ok...You wanna get some snacks with me before your duel?!"
Kai: "Sure."
It took Amelia less than a second to return to her normal self and give Kai something to kill extra time with before his duel. As they were walking to the stalls to get something to eat they ran into Luna disguised as Leo along with Bolt and Yanagi.
Bolt: "Hey Kai! What did you think of the duels so far?"
Kai: "Akiza's was pretty disappointing but Yusei's duel got me out of my seat at some parts! His was amazing! I wish I was the one that got to duel Greiger it would've been so much fun!"
Yanagi: "Well you still have your duel in the next round so it can't be too bad!"
Luna: "Y-Yeah your duel will be just as amazing as Yusei's I'm sure!"
Kai: "You can drop the act around me Luna. You're one of Yusei's friends aren't you? So why would I get you in trouble?"
Luna: "*SIGH* Alright that's a fair point but I still stand by what I said."
Bolt: "She's right Kia. You never know what could happen in a duel! Your opponent might be hiding their best plays from you!"
Kai: "Hahaha! I know that better than anyone but at the same time I think Greiger would've been more fun to duel."
Sir Randsborg: "Oh please doth explain thous reasoning."
Kai: "Not saying you're inferior to him or that I'm better than you but after seeing his performance against Yusei you and I have our work cut out for us don't you think so?"
Sir Randsborg: "Doth not matter to me the doings of another. I shalt prove who is truly inferior!"
With this Sir Randsborg walked off towards the waiting area for duelists with his head held high."
Kai: "I should be going soon it's about to be my turn after all."
Bolt: "Alright. Good luck we'll be cheering for ya!"
Yanagi: "Same for me! A friend of Yusei's is a friend of ours!"
Luna: "Be careful ok. Don't lose, we're all rooting for you to win!"
Amelia: "Yeah! I kinda want to see you duel Yusei in the final round so you better not lose...got that?!?!"
Kai: "Alright, alright. I'll try my best m."
Loudspeaker: "Attention. The next round will be starting in 10 minutes. Duelists, please head to the waiting area before your duel begins."
Kai: "That's my que. I'll see you guys after I win so save a seat for me ok?"
Amelia: "You got it!" Now go and win your duel...my food is ready."
After that Amelia lost all interest in the conversation as Kai headed to the waiting area before his duel with Randsborg. As he was turning the corner to head into the waiting area he stopped as he bumped into someone he didn't plan on meeting yet...Akiza!
Akiza: "Are you going to just stand there or are you going to move?!"
Kai: "Easy there Miss Akiza. I'm just heading to the waiting area."
Akiza: "Whatever, just don't get in my way again or else!"
Kai: "Or else what? You'll hurt me?"
Akiza: "Didn't you see my duel earlier?! You saw what I did."
Kai: "Yes. You won your duel against someone who thought that you were purposely trying to hurt other people around you. But I know the truth Akiza."
Akiza: "You don't even know me! So don't pretend you know what I'm going through!"
Kai: "You're right. I don't know everything you've been through. But I can guess as well as see the pain on your face when people scorn you for something out of your control and I can see the loneliness that comes with it...I'm not blind. Just know that if you ever need someone just know that as a duelist and friend I'll be there to help should you need it."
As Kai said this he started walking into the waiting area leaving Akiza with just one thought.
Akiza: [A friend?"]
Akiza was in disbelief at what Kai said to her since he'd seen her duel and still treated her like an actual person. He didn't even flinch when she threatened him or when she reminded him of what she could do! She didn't know what to think so with this line thought in her head she left to find Sayer for her next match all while thinking about finding this person again before the tournament is over.
Now Kai was inside the waiting room looking around for a familiar face...Yusei!
Kai: "Hey Yusei! That was an amazing duel my friend I was on the edge of my seat the entire time!"
Yusei: "Oh! Glad you liked it. But I'm more concerned about my next opponent."
Kai: "I know but don't let her fool you. Every wall hides something precious. The persona of the Black Rose is just a facade and a cry for help. She just needs someone in her corner for once. I offered to fill that role before I came here but if you manage to get through to her as well during your duel I'd appreciate it...just don't lose."
Yusei: "I already planned that since we share the same mark on our arms. We need to stick together."
Kai: "Why am I not surprised. Don't change Yusei that's one of your best qualities. Oh well wish me luck."
Yusei: "Good luck! Not that you'll need it."
Yusei smiled as he mumbled the last part as Kai walked to the platform and disappeared from sight.
