Chapter 1: {Surprising News}

In a dark room, a young man was lying in bed listening to the TV as he looked up at the ceiling. The buzzing of an oxygen concentrator could be heard throughout the room acting as background music for the actors who were screaming for their lives.

The black-haired boy smiled and closed his eyes as tears began trailing down his cheeks.

"While I'm thankful to live another day… with all this pain that I'm feeling, I can't help but sometimes wish for it to fucking end. Especially since all I've done my entire life is drag down my family."

Leo was born with a rare disease called Muscular Dystrophy, which leads to weakened and decreased muscle mass. Ever since he was young he had been unable to move around like everyone else and his life became even more limited over time.

It had now gotten to the point that his lungs were unable to supply his body with enough oxygen. The constant pain burning through his body was also quite torturous. After asking the doctor how much longer he would survive he was told that he had another three years, if he was lucky. Which meant that he would die at the young age of 16.

"Three years?! I wonder what that stupid doctor was on? I can feel it, I'll be gone way earlier than that. I wonder what there is after death? Will I still be stuck with this damn disease even in the afterlife?."

His thoughts of his unfortunate future were interrupted by loud noises coming from his ceiling. It was as if someone was running through the roof and they were quickly making their way towards him.

"What kind of idiot would run through someone's roof?"

As he cursed the unknown person, a bright light broke through the ceiling and blinded him. When he opened his eyes, he found his room to be perfectly fine. Everything seemed to be in order, and thier was no evidence of the light ever being there.

Leo could feel something different though, it took him a few seconds to realize but the pain he had felt had gone away. What's more when he uncovered himself he found his legs to have a significant muscle increase. The once bony legs had become like the ones of his brother and father.

"How? Is this a dream?."

He decided to take off his oxygen mask and tried to stand up which resulted in him falling to the floor. It had been so long since he had been able to get up that finding his balance was hard.

Leo's happiness was put on hold when he heard a knock on the door. Before receiving a reply it began to open and a young man with blonde hair poked his head in.

"Leo, could we have a short talk?"

Leo didn't recognize the man who seemed to be somewhere in his mid-20s. If it wasn't because he was in a good mood he would have asked who the hell he was.

It was hard to explain when it began, but overtime he found himself putting a wall between himself and everyone sometimes even his family. The look of pity that they would have bugged him so he tried to get them to leave. One of the ways he found to do this was to curse, and it now had become a part of him.

That said since he was happy he took a deep breath and nodded, "Okay? But who are you?"

The man put his hand out, and a seat from the corner of the room was sent sliding to his hand. After sitting down he smiled nervously and scratched his head, "Well you see I'm Jaren, god's chosen."

Leo was left speechless when he saw the chair move by itself and his knees nearly buckled when he heard what the man had just said.

'God's chosen?'

Leo wouldn't have believed it before but the flash of light, him being cured, and the chair. Those were all things that weren't normal. Maybe two of the three things could be tricks but him being miraculously cured wasn't that easy. No, that would be an understatement it was impossible especially because there was no cure.

"Sir, were you the one who cured me?"

He waited for Jaren to nod or say yes, but neither came. The nervous expression on the man became even more complicated. Then he shook his head and began speaking.

"Well, the thing is that I accidentally killed you…I was chasing after a demon and because of your weak life force, I didn't notice you when I threw a heavenly bolt at him. That same bolt killed you disentrating your body and soul."

Leo couldn't believe what Jaren was saying, his body became weak and he slumped in bed while looking at the ceiling.

'So I'm dead….well, at least the pain stopped and I won't have to suffer anymore. What about my family though? Will they be okay? God haha I know I wished for death but I was hoping to at least say goodbye...'

After processing what he was told he sighed and sat back up. While he was angry at the way he died he was still relived. Being able to die suddenly with no more unneeded pain was a luxury not many had. What's more, the man had earlier stated that he was somehow connected to god. Angering someone like that would only lead to trouble.

"Sorry about that Sir, and thanks for waiting, I have three questions though. Earlier you said that you were…God's Chosen or something along those lines could you tell me what that is?"

Jaren nodded understandably and began his explanation, "Well, the short explanation is, we are inhabitants of our worlds that have been chosen to manage the worlds owned by God. That is our job until we decide to retire and go to the paradise you call heaven."

Leo was surprised that such a system was put in place, he had many questions about it but he decided to push them away for now.

"Okay, my second question. You said something about the heavenly bolt disintegrating my body and soul. If that's true then how am I still talking to you while being me? Wouldn't I have simply disappeared?"

Upon hearing Leo's question the man's facial expression changed to one of worry and then shame.

"Well, Leo to be honest your soul has been erased for hundreds of thousands of years. You see….when I killed you I had just started my responsibilities as one of God's Chosen. Out of fear, I tried to hide my mistake, however, I was unsuccessful."
