Chapter 67: Ready?

Reina looked up when she sensed the King's gaze aimed at her.

The feeling of a tiny rabbit standing before the vicious tiger resurfaced in her mind which made her straighten her back in the next instant and lower her head towards him.

"The hair…" She heard him mutter, almost flinching but somehow managed to keep her shoulders from jerking in surprise.

'Did he notice!?' Reina fretted if he had sensed that her appearance was different from usual.

After all, the braids she had opted for today had softened the sharp jawline and also the straight eyebrows which made her predecessor look more masculine everyday.

Right now, the loosely braided hair caused her cheeks to look a little rounded and there was also a flushed appearance to them.

Her lips were pink and soft while her nose was straight and pointed.

Reina gulped in silence at the sudden observant eyes being directed at her, trying her best to calm her mind.

She was sure that her body still maintained the appearance of a man so only the face was an issue right now which had caught the King's observant eye.

"I could not tie my hair up because I had a headache, My Lord." She explained the reason for the different hairstyle.

King Zander glanced at his chamberlain from top to bottom before nodding his head.

The voice was the same, the clothes were the same, and even the posture was what he was used to seeing.

It was just the face that looked more red instead of the pale face he had been seeing for a while now.

'Maybe the medicines are working.' He deduced that Doctor Bundt's medicine might be the cause of this change he had noticed.

Once he had received a satisfactory reply, King Zander chose to go about his usual routine and entered the bathroom.

Reina heaved a loud sigh of relief before patting her chest to calm her heart.

'Rein had a talent for lying.' She realized as this body did not panic while uttering words of fallacy right to the King's face.

After all, her predecessor had been doing the same for so many years and it seemed that these habits were engraved deep within the bones of this body that she now possessed.

Shaking her head to discard any ill thoughts of what might have happened if he had caught her lying, Reina decided to hurry and leave this room at the earliest.

The King was still in the bathroom when she completed changing his sheets and even neatly arranged his clothes for the day.

She chose black for the bottoms with a grey loose shirt with the usual long black robes to go over them.

Since the memories concerning how to serve the King with care were the very first memories that she had gained, Reina knew a lot about the King and his preferences.

He would rather wear comfortable clothing every day and reserved those majestic and elaborate attires for important occasions.

Thus she had prepared the outfit he was bound to appreciate and left the room as soon as she was done.

As expected, when King Zander returned after his bath, he was pleased with his Chamberlain's choice and changed into it soon after.

"Come here," he summoned when it was time to help him with the final touches.

Reina hurried into the room after knocking and helped him with the cuffs and the robe, straightening out the sleeves and stepping aside to let him examine his appearance in the mirror.

The King nodded in appreciation at the final look and through the reflection of the mirror, glanced at the young man standing at his side.

"Ready?" He questioned only to find Rein Melk looking back at him with an oblivious and confused look in his icy blue eyes.

'Ready for what?' Her thoughts were evident on her face but she coughed when she saw the King's eyes narrowing at her.

'Maybe I have been too lenient on him these last few days.' The King scoffed at the thought of this aide forgetting what he had planned to do today.

"Treegan." He uttered another name and in the next second, that man appeared inside this room.

Reina would be a fool to be startled by this abrupt emergence a second time.

Hence she only stared at the man who was now standing next to her, bowing before the King.

However, it appeared as though Treegan was not pleased with something and just a single look was enough for the King to decipher what had caused his face to be so dark.

After bowing to the King, the aide turned to his side, leering at the other man in this room.

Treegan had been tossing and turning in bed all night, unable to fall asleep as the thoughts of what was to come at the break of dawn were tormenting him so the dark circles around his eyes only made his glare scarier to look at.

This fierce glare could be directed at only one person in this room so he did not hide his frustration at this moment.

The animosity which was being aimed at Reina caused her to frown but soon a thought struck her mind.

'How could I forget!!?' She gasped at the recollection of what the King had meant earlier which was also the cause of Treegan's distraught but furious appearance.

The King's sour mood alleviated a little when he saw the look of shock and realization forming on the chamberlain's face.

'He's still a little slow.' He noted this trait of his chamberlain before alternating his gaze between the two men.

"Now shall we?" He announced and the two vampires under his command accepted his words regardless of what they truly had in mind.

After all, which fool would dare to disregard the King's words right in his presence?

Thus the two men, one the shadow of the King and the other his chamberlain, walked behind their Master who was now leading the way outside this room.
