Chapter 16: King of Contracts
The next morning she woke up to the sound of knocking on her hotel room door. Just great, I thought I was going to sleep for today, I even called in for a day off, but I guess not. Can't wait to beat up whoever is here she thought.
After lying there for a bit hoping this person would go away she got out of bed, fixed her hair a little bit and then opened the door as it was obvious this person was not leaving. She opened the door getting ready to shout at the person but standing there was Lucas with a goofy smile. "Darling!" he exclaimed while waving a booklet of paper around. "Here is the contract that you will sign." he said with a creepy emphasis on will. He then made his way in and sat on the chair. After the shock of this man barging in early in the morning sank in she sighed, the only thing she could do was to close the door and to read this contract, it may change her future after all.
"Ok ok I'm coming." she said as she took a seat next to him and picked up the contract from the table. She read through it slowly making sure she considered everything and checked for loopholes. As she read further and further into this booklet her face morphed into an expression of confusion and horror.
"Lucas. What. Is. This." she demanded as she threw the contract on the table and looked up to see his sly smile.
"What do you mean darling? You see I'm only proposing that you'll be my wife. No one will know who you are, you'll be my wife in name only. If I'm entirely honest this isn't as good as the original contract but my secretary told me you would run away if I showed you that so I altered it." he replied innocently as if he had done nothing wrong.
She closed her eyes slowly and rubbed her forehead. This man was twisted beyond words and the thought of becoming his wife made her shudder. The contract he proposed said that she would be his wife in name and perform 'wifely jobs' which were not stated in the book.
If you showed this to anyone they would think that you wanted their body and that you were some pervert. What scared her the most was the thought that there was another contract worse than that, thinking about it sent shivers down her spine.
Lucas is being pretty clever about this isn't he she thought. There was no way out for her. She could say no but then her 'husband' would find out that it was fake and she would have to go back and her pride would not allow it. Even if she somehow managed to lie her way out of it she would have to deal with Lucas. Making him change his mind was like trying to move earth to a different place. The only thing she could do was to make her own conditions to put her in a safer situation. The game had officially started.
