Chapter 2: Pregnancy and Divorce

Ellie stroked her stomach and took a deep breath. "Please help Mommy, sweetie," she said softly while looking at her still-flat stomach.

Yes. Amid the bitterness of her life, a miracle arrived in her womb. A life that could strengthen her to face such adversity.

She has been hiding it from Noah for two months and will continue to do so until their fake marriage ends.

"Take it! I don't want you to bear my child!"

Those words, Noah's words, followed by a pack of birth control pills, were tossed harshly in front of her after he raped her a few months ago. Yet it's still fresh as dew in her memory.

However, the baby was still growing in her womb for some reason.

Inform Noah? Impossible! That man would surely order her to get an abortion.

She has no heart to abort it. Even if it wasn't the fruit of love, it's still a life.

She didn't even tell her mother or her best friend, Callie. She was afraid of what they were going to say.

"Baby, no matter what happens, remain strong in there for me, okay?" Ellie said softly. "My strength comes from you and your grandma, sweetie."

Tears streamed down her cheeks, followed by a muffled sob. She was heartbroken by the thought that she would be unable to provide a father figure for her unborn child.

She couldn't, however, take this innocent life merely for that reason.

Whatever comes her way, she will protect her baby and become stronger.

Ellie braced herself and wiped the tears from her cheeks. She sat down and began to work.

Accompanied by her thick medical books, Ellie began working on her report.

Currently, she's in her fifth year of residency, and just a few months away from completing it.

Day by day, she got new responsibilities. Her hectic duties, at the hospital or as a "maid" at her own husband's house, were enough of a distraction to keep her mind off her misery.

Beep, beep, beep...

The alarm on her desk went off. She rubbed her tired face and switched off the alarm.

"Hahh... how fast time passes."

Ellie quickly completed the report and placed it in her bag. She dashed into the kitchen and began to cook.

Her chores have doubled since her husband brought his lover to reside in this house a year ago.

Not only does she have to clean the house with Aunt Helen, but she also has to cook and wash Alexandra's clothes.

Angry? Not a chance. She's well aware that she's the one who was standing in their midst. She is the third person in their relationship.

"Oh my God, Ellie! What time did you cook?"

Ellie was preparing the table for breakfast when she heard her husband's nanny, Aunt Helen, speaking.

She then saw her standing in front of the kitchen island with her mouth agape. That middle-aged lady appeared astonished as she gazed down at the various dishes on the table.

"Three-thirty," Ellie answered.

Helen blinked. She glanced at the time before returning her attention to the young woman Noah had married.

"Three-thirty? Oh my God! That's early! And... this... why so many of them?" Helen exclaimed, pointing at the dishes.

"I'm working overtime today. So I might as well get dinner ready. If the young master and Miss Alexandra wish to eat it later, just reheat them in the microwave. " With a slight smile on her face, Ellie explained,

Helen sighed and walked over to that slender lady. She took the young woman's hand in hers and gently caressed it.

"Why are you still hanging on, Ellie? Your husband has never shown you respect; why don't you file for divorce, dear?" Helen rued the lady who was meant to be the hostess but had to settle for being a maid instead.

Ellie gave a tiny smile. She only glanced at Helen and said nothing. She withdrew her hand and continued to prepare the table, as well as clean the kitchen.

Helen kept on complaining and grumbling about how Noah mistreated her.

Ellie sighed. She shifted her position to face that middle-aged woman and forced a faint smile.

"Young master has suffered enough since I became his wife; there's no harm in doing something to make him happy, right?"

"But, dear—"

"I would surely give them a wedding if I could."

Helen was taken aback as she heard Ellie's earnest words.

"Do you mean it?"

Ellie gasped. She swiveled around and bowed when she saw a tall figure approaching.

"Young Master." She greeted.

Noah averted his gaze, ignoring Ellie's greetings. He walked over to his contract wife and stopped just a few steps in front of her.

"I repeat. Did you mean what you said? "

Ellie drew her lips together and nodded. "Yes, young master."

The man snorted. He took a seat at the table and fixed his attention on Ellie.

"Then do it. Tell my mother that you want a divorce and prepare for my marriage to Alexandra."

Ellie bowed once again. "Have a little more patience. I'll certainly do it."

Noah sneered at her. "You know what, silence is better than lies."

Ellie shut her mouth. It's best to keep it quiet since he didn't pick up on her words, right?

Noah scowled and shook his head.

"Helen, my breakfast!" He exclaimed, turning to Helen.

Helen hastily placed a plate prepared by Ellie in front of him.

"Here, Young Master," Helen responded.

"Did you make this, Helen?" Noah asked as he grabbed the knife and fork on the table.

Helen shook her head and smiled warmly. "It's Ellie. Isn't it good, Young Master?"

Clunk!

Noah roughly put his fork and knife down and stood up.

"I want the usual. Helen, make one!" Noah ordered in a loud voice while walking back to the second floor.

Ellie closed her eyes. She did her best to hold back the tears that were about to flow down.

It's not the first time Noah has treated her harshly, but why is it still so hurtful?

"Oh, Ellie." Helen approached that poor woman and hugged her. She caressed the young woman's back and hugged her. "My poor child..."

Ellie wanted to pour the pain into the shoulder of this lady who embraced her. But no. She wouldn't do it here, where her husband could see her.

It's pointless to cry here since what she'll get later is an insult from him, as has usually happened since they've been living together.

She's not a weak woman, and she'll prove it to Noah.

"Ellie, are you going to get a divorce?"
