Chapter 10: Chapter 10

After a lively evening dining with Bella and Uncle Charlie, and discussing the "failure" of her first day at Forks High School. She talked about a guy who wanted to write a story about her, claiming that a new student in the middle of the year was a sensation in the small town where the biggest event had been the pastor's daughter dating a college guy...

Uncle Charlie and I realized that writing a story about her was just an excuse to spend time with her, and you can guess the rest.

Waking up early, I put on my running clothes and head towards the room of the girl who said she wanted to become more athletic after almost being knocked down by a ball during gym class.

KNOCK-KNOCK

I only hear a muffled "hmm" as a response. I say, "I'm coming in," and when I enter, I see her still lying in bed, clearly refusing to wake up fully.

Damian: "Come on, Bells, you said you wanted this. I remember you saying, 'I need this to avoid more embarrassment in front of everyone' after a weak ball almost knocked you down," I say as I lie on top of her.

Bella: "I don't know if I want this. Yesterday was a terrible decision, and I refuse to get out of bed so early."

I sigh and say, "Okay, then," and look at Sirius, who's waiting by the door. I get off her and signal him to do what I had asked.

Sirius runs and jumps on the bed, licking Bella's face all over. She screams while laughing, "Okay! I got it! I'll get up. Now get this giant ball of fur off me. This giant tongue is slobbering me all over!" I burst into laughter.

I call Sirius, "All right, buddy, you can get down." And when he gets off the bed with his chest puffed up with victory, I see Bella raise the upper part of her body and look at me with frustration written all over her face, and her hair completely messed up from Sirius's attacks. I mischievously say, "Sirius did a great job. I never thought a dog could make a nest."

Bella: "Hmph! You'll pay for this, idiot!"

Damian: "All right, Lady Vengeance, get ready so we can go for a run. I'll prepare a cup of coffee to give you some extra energy." I leave her room with Sirius.

After 10 minutes, she comes downstairs and has her coffee while I finish mine. She says, "Don't wake me up like that again. I don't want to have to wash my hair every morning because of dog saliva." She looks at Sirius with eyes full of "you betrayed me."

I innocently replied, "You said you wanted to change your habits, so I thought anything was worth it to help you with that. Today, you'll be sleeping at your house, so you'll have to wake up by yourself tomorrow."

She nods in frustration, knowing there's no turning back now, and it's not like running for a while every morning will kill her... right?

When we get back home, she thinks it will surely kill her; her whole body aches from never having done such exercises before.

Bella looks at me, still full of energy, and says, while breathing heavily, "How do you do it? How... how do you still have so much energy?"

I shrug at her question and say, "I'm made of much better material than you. Now, go inside and start getting ready for school. We don't want to be late."

She looks confused and asks, "And you?"

I point to the back of the house and say, "I'm going to swim a little. I finish my morning routine after swimming."

She looks at me in shock and says, "You can still swim? Moreover, swimming in this cold water?"

I reply, "I'm pretty warm; I don't have a problem with that."

After swimming, showering, getting dressed, and having breakfast with Bella, I head towards the garage with her.

I ask, "Is there anything I should know about the school? Like, are there a lot of annoying teenagers with more hormones than they should have?"

Bella: "Nothing special, well, at least the people I've befriended are pretty normal, maybe you'll like them."

I automatically respond, "I highly doubt it."

I know these friends and their personalities certainly won't appeal to me.

She tells me, "Don't be like that. You have to make some friends, you know?"

I reply, "I already have some friends."

She gives me a blank look and says, "Me, my dad, Sirius, Jacob, and your dad don't count."

Does Mephisto count? Unfortunately, I can't ask that.

- Sometime later...

When I arrive at school, my charger quickly grabs the attention of all the students who are still entering the school.

And like any typical teenager... I rev the engine a bit. Come on, who wouldn't want to do that with a car like this?

This also caught the attention of a vampire family who had just arrived and had their spotlight stolen.

As I step out of the car, I hear a collective sigh from everyone present. Even though they see the Cullens every day, I seem to be in a whole different league, like a God descending to Earth.

Bella speaks up as she arrives by my side: "Why couldn't you be a little less good-looking? You draw so much attention." She says this with her head down, trying to hide from all the curious eyes.

I shrug and start walking with her, saying: "I'm used to it. Every day was like this at my old school, so this is nothing new. Don't forget that my mom made me study at home until I was 14 because she was afraid my looks would attract unwanted attention."

After thinking for a moment, Bella remembers: "Ah! I forgot about that. It was because of a woman who saw you being dropped off at school by your parents when you were... 6 years old?"

I correct her: "Actually, I was 5 years old."

Bella continues: "And she wanted to kidnap you, right? That's how they found out she already had two kidnapped children at home, and both were adorable kids."

I explain: "She wasn't mentally stable, so my parents reacted strongly. Her husband died while serving in the Navy or something, and she went through a lot of mental issues after that. Her son was really cute, from what my mom said, and he also died in a hit-and-run accident. That's what drove her to kidnap children she considered... better? I can't remember exactly, it's been a long time."

It was pretty funny when I remembered that. My mom was shocked at the time and decided to protect me by keeping my adorableness hidden at home. They even considered putting a tracker on me.

As we approach a ramp leading to the school, I feel a burning gaze, more intense than any other I've received.

I stop walking and look in the direction of that gaze, and there I see a young girl staring at me with all her being.

She has an enchanting and charismatic figure, ethereal and graceful like a fairy. Her delicate stature and elegant posture add to her charm. Her short, carefully arranged black hair frames her angelic face.

Her facial features are refined and symmetrical, with rosy lips that form a contagious smile. Her gaze is fiery as if she's paying attention to every detail of me. It's as if just a glance is not enough to fully satisfy her.

When our eyes meet, I feel as if we are the only ones at that moment. The connection I felt before, now an instant connection, has grown stronger, and it feels like it's completely made, something that transcends time and space.

She gives me a brilliant smile that makes it hard for me to look away, wanting to stay in that moment for the rest of my life.

But life had different plans, and the annoying... my precious cousin pokes me and whispers, "What's wrong, Damian? You're standing there with that silly smile for quite some time."

I remove my gaze from that angel, deeply disappointed to be taken away from that moment. But not wanting anyone to notice my current state, I pull Bella and say, "It's nothing, let's go."

Not before taking a last look at the girl, who smiles even bigger and waves at me.

My heart feels like it's going to jump out of my chest, it's beating so fast. If crying was a new emotion, this was transcendence.

"I never thought that connection would be with her. I never thought Alice Cullen would be my soulmate. Too bad I didn't look at the others to see if anything else changed, like Jasper being with that woman... Edyth? Something like that, they created her as Edward's sister in a fandom."

Bella drags me to pick up my schedule, which was arranged similarly to the previous ones.

Bella speaks with a hint of frustration, "It seems like we won't have many classes together. Why do you take so many advanced classes?"

I take a look at her schedule and say, "My mother was strict about it, so I've already learned more than regular students. She wanted me to go to Harvard."

She nods and says, "That sounds like something her character would do. She went there too, right?"

I reply, "Yes, she and my father graduated from there."

Bella asks, "Are you planning to go too?"

I tilt my head slightly as I think about it and say, "There's a good chance I will."

Honestly, I'm not sure if I want to be a lawyer... sure, with the Atonement's gaze, being a lawyer would be pretty easy, but that means dealing with various kinds of sins, which wouldn't be pleasant.

And since I'm immortal, I can be a lawyer now or in the future... right?

Checking my first class, it's Physics with Mrs. Banner.

I bid Bella farewell and enter the classroom, thanks to her for bringing me here.

I approach the stern-looking teacher while there are no students in the classroom and say, "Good morning, Mrs. Banner."

She lifts her eyes from the notebook she was looking at, and as she looks at me, I see her pupils dilate slightly and her mouth form an "O" before she composes herself back into her "serious" appearance and says, "You must be the new student, Damian, right?" When I nod in confirmation, she continues, "Great, you can sit anywhere, but stay quiet and no talking."

Without saying a word, I head towards any table near the window, sit down, and start looking outside through the large window. I ignore everyone staring at me, along with the students who slowly arrived and whispered among themselves, and the occasional "Shh" from the teacher, annoyed with the whispers.

As I sit there, I wonder if coming with Bella today prevented her from staring at the Cullens, searching for Edward. And that leads me to think about the little fairy again.

And it's while I'm lost in thoughts about that small fairy I saw before, Alice Cullen, that I hear a sweet voice speaking to me.

"Hello."

When I look at the owner of the voice, my heart speeds up, my cheeks feel a little warm, and my breathing becomes a bit fast.

I reply, "Hello."

The owner of the voice gives me a beautiful smile and says, "May I sit with you?"

Damian: "Yes," I respond, still in a trance, before shaking my head and diverting my eyes from her, feeling so confused.

I hear a little laugh coming from her.

Why is Alice here? Right in the first class. Couldn't fate give me a bit more time to prepare?

Urff

It's going to be a long day.
