Chapter 4: Fortress of Despair.

(The Devil Clans are based on the Ars Goetia, and those have a good description of the original Demon and how many Legions they rule over.)

While Drake gorged himself on Mana Crystals, things were beginning to become volatile. The Leraje, Eligos, and Botis armies were on the move to take back the Mana Crystal Deposit. The Devils had lost this deposit 100 years ago and they had been trying to take it back ever since.

This one was special as the Mana Vein it was attached to was extremely potent. And yet, despite inflicting heavy losses in each battle to the Fallen Angels, they lost even more. While the Devil Clans had more numbers, Fallen Angels who used Light-based magic countered Devils.

As such, each Fallen Angel foot soldier was more often than not stronger than Devil Foot soldiers. The Devils had advantages in their unique Bloodline powers, but mostly only the Nobles of the clans had those.

That was not including the Angels who had the same advantages, but they had their own weakness. The brutality of war caused many to Fall to their rising bloodlust, and desire the desire for violence. It was becoming more common for Angels to sin as a coping mechanism for the weaker-willed ones.

A terrible war that no one seemed to be winning. So Azazel was willing to use every advantage and Drake seemed to be just that trump card. Drake, watched as the bear-sized Drake seemed to keep growing bigger by the second.

Already, Drake was the size of an elephant, and he was not just increasing his size. His blood which contained all of his elements became super energized. Super pure mana flowed through his body causing his body to become purer.

--

While Drake fed, the gathered Devil Force gathered at a giant camp. The Mana Vein was not the only one, but it was one of the few that produced pure Mana Metal. Lucifer this time sent three entire Clans to either take it back or make it not worth defending.

At the camp which was quickly being set up by the massive force of Devils, the three Clan Heads and their Nobles gathered in a luxurious tent. The Leraje Clan was famed for their Archers and their Clan Ability Rot.

Their arrows would putrify wounds and their aim was uncontested. The Head was a gallant and handsome man clad in green robes, carrying a bow and quiver. He stood proudly as his arms were crossed.

"For the past 100 years that Deposit has been in Grigori's hands. Either today that changes or we destroy it. At the start of the battle, my troops will rain arrows down on the fort."

As he spoke, the Eligos Clan head walked forward. He was a towering Devil covered in black plate armor made of a variety of Infused Adamantium. Devils did not use mana, so infusing metals with mana was pointless.

They infused the Metal with Demonic Power that changed its properties for Devils. In some ways, it was inferior to regular Infused Adamantium. The metal was slightly weaker and less conductive and it took many times the Adamantium to make it.

Only because of how much wealth each Devil clan had did he manage to afford his suit.

"Once the barrage is over, I will lead the frontal charge once you bring down the main gate and the Defensive Formation. The last time, the Fort was attacked, the Beluga clan rushed in on horseback and lost 3 Legions in the first hour. I will not repeat this again."

Finally, the Botis Head was the last to speak. He flicked the air like a snake as the snake-faced Devil spoke.

"Then my troops will attack alongside yours Eligos."

"Right."

The three heads went over the plan before they returned to their full gathered force. The Leraje Clan as a Marquis in its prime once had 30 Legions, now it had only 17. The Eligos as a Duke, had doubled to 60, now only 27.

As for the Botis which was ranked Earl, they had 60 as well, and their losses had been heavy now only fielding 23 Legions over the course of many millennia of War. A grand total of

--

In the Fort, Penemune, Armaros, Espheres, and Ezekiel all gathered as well. Altogether, in their prime they would have been able to field 120 Legions, now that number was only around 73.

As such, they had 6 more Legions than the Devils, but numbers were not everything in this battle. Penemune turned to her Fellow Cadre.

"The Laraje clan will rain down arrows on us from a distance to try to pick us off. We won't let them, we will use the Light Magnifier Canons to attack at range and we will maintain the multi-layered barrier.

As for the Botis clan, they will use their poison magics to try to melt down our Formations and walls, but we have faced them before and know how they work. Use Wind Magic and purification spells to either send it back to their own forces or simply undo their magic.

As for the Eligos clan, they will go into the melee range. We will use Formation to pick them off and use the siege weapons from the Fort to cause losses. As for the Heads of the Clans, if need be we will face them.

Armaros, you have faced the Eligos head before. Take your Legions and hold them back. Do you think you can kill him this time?"

Armaros reached behind him and pulled out his shield and his axe. All of them were made of top quality Infused Adamantium.

"If I can't, I will return these weapons to Azazel."

Penemune turned to Espheres.

"Espheres, you will back up Armaros if needed."

Espherus closed his eyes and nodded.

"I am on it."

Ezekeel, keep your Legions manning the defenses. As for mine, we will take on the Leraje clan. Azazel will join us soon. Let's move."

The 4 Fallen Angels rushed out to give orders to their Legions as they prepared for Battle. The Entire fort was a sea of activity, as Mana Crystals stopped being extracted, purified ones were moved to the siege weapons, the Formations were ready to be turned on, and each Fallen Angel was ready to fight.

After an hour, the Devil Army teleported around 100 miles from the Fortress as if they were not dumb. They knew that the moment they teleported, they would be attacked by the Fallen's Siege Canons, so the instant they teleported, in trained fashion, each Devil created a siege Barrier.

With each devil foot soldier contributing their smaller Demonic Power to the barrier, it became many times stronger. At the back, the 17 Leraje Legions in uniformed fashion grabbed their bows and aimed at the sky.

Each Legion contained 30,000 Devils so it was a massive force of half a million archers of a Clan of Archers. Lord Leraje drew his bow which was much bigger than any of his troops. And his arrow was made of pure Demonic Power.

"FIRE!"

When he fired his bow, the Arrow flew into the sky followed by another half a million arrows. That alone would be terrifying, but each archer could fire several per minute so they continued to rain arrows.

But the leading arrow of Lord Laraje burst half apart and multiplied into another thousand arrows. At the Fallen Fort, instantly a Defensive Formation fired to life. All over the Fort, runes, lit up with mana, as the siege weapons were aimed into the sky.

"FIRE!"

Ezekeel ordered, and the 100 Light Magnifier canons emerged from the sides of the Fort. Each one was powered by 1,000 Fallen Angels and liquid mana purified from Mana Crystals. When the giant canons fired, it was like the very sun appeared causing the Devils who were the closest to the barrier to be turned to ash.

The giant blasts of Light burned through the Demonic Arrows launched by the Laraje clan and eventually struck the Siege Shield. Lord Eligos raised his shield as his Demonic Power surged into the shield.

"HOLD!"

His troops, all raised their shields which unlike his, were made of much weaker Devil Steel. Another Devil Varient of regular Mana Steel. As for the Barrier it was reinforced by the Eligos caln masters of defense, but several layers were burned away by the canons which were designed by Azazel and Satanel to counter Devils and Demonic Power.

Lord Eligos grit his teeth as he pushed his Bloodline ability to the limit. His Legions did the same to ensure the Shield held, but despite his troops which numbers 810,000 eventually 4 of the original 100 blasted through opening 4 holes in the Siege Barrier.

The 4 attacks of pure Light Magic smashed into 4 chunks of the gathered army vaporizing any Devil it touched. Lord Leraje in the back instantly pulled back his bow and fired 4 arrows which smashed into the Light blasts trying to weaken them.

His arrows held for a few moments but eventually were overcome and the 4 light blasts exploded in Eligos legions. Countless Devils were just gone with out a body in sight which was not an uncommon sight when facing Grigori and Heaven.

Eligos roared to the sky once more.

"RECOVER!"

His troops closed the holes in their ranks. It would be a nightmare to count how many he had lost in that attack. But it would take the Light Magnifier Canons around 5 minutes to recharge as they were mana-heavy weapons.

Advancing at this point would be suicide, so they dug in. Leraje's archers were ready again for another volley so they did just that. They began to blot out the sky with arrows, but to avoid the canons being damaged they were pulled back into the fort.

A massive defensive Formation appeared over the Fort vaporizing some of the arrows, but some passed by. When the arrows struck the Fort Walls, most shattered, but the ones that pierced in began to corrode the metal walls slowly.

One arrow would be fine as the Fort had to repair formations and runes, but the arrows kept coming. Ezekeel squinted his eyes.

"Two can play at that game. PREPARE RETURN FIRE!"

His 20 Legions who were manning the defenses, began to use the many siege weapons Azazel, and Satanael made. And one of their favorites was a very simply named Reverse Field.

It was linked to the Mana Vein and once it was activated, the volley of arrows was hit by an invisible force. They paused mid-air before being forced back at the Devils. Once more the shield was maintained, but the Device was a work in progress.

If overused it could become damaged, so it was to be used only a few times per battle. But this move had totally shocked the Devils as they watched their own shield begin to corrode. When the sky-bloating volley fell on their own troops they wondered if they brought enough troops.

Grigori had the least number of fighters, but they were most innovative as they were led by the mad inventor Azazel. The number of terrifying weapons he and his researchers had made had even left Heaven stumped at times.

But while this happened, Drake lunged forward and swallowed another handful of Mana Metal what he called these pure crystals. When he did that, he froze for a second and he even stopped growing.

(Imagine zooming in on his cells.)

His cells which contained the Dragon, Fire, Ice, Lightning, Radiation, and Water elements all rushed together with mana causing his bionuclear system from his Godzilla gene to change.

He still could feed on Radiation, Bioenergy, but now, his body's system changed to work on Mana. He could draw it from the sky, ground, or any mana full resource. When this happened, a wave of Mana and Energy rushed from him causing Azazel to cover his eyes.

When he opened them, he saw that Drake looked the same as before, only much more savage. Each of his scales seemed to flow with his elements and mana. His carapace seemed to be forged by a god, and each of his spikes showed the properties of Mana Infusion.

He began to grow larger far faster than before, and he just kept growing. He turned to Azazel and stopped acting.

"Thank you for helping me Azazel grow to this point. Now to pay you back for your aid, I will aid you."

He was becoming too large to fit in this chamber, he began to rush out. Azazel on instinct grabbed his tail which had the least amount of spikes as Drake rushed out. He asked the question he needed to know.

"You are not a baby are you?"

"No. My name is Drake, not Helbrecht. But I like it, but it is Drake."

"Were you sentient from the start?"

"Yes. I played the baby dragon so you would help me."

"And I fell for it."

"You did."

The rest of the trip turned quiet as they left the Mana Vein. Drake spread his wings which now had Infused Adamantium spikes which were lighter so breaking them off was not a huge necessity anymore.

Drake flew to the sealing as he was still getting bigger. When he reached the top a huge hole opened up as the metal moved out of his way before it closed when he was out. Once he was in the open air and still growing he turned to Azazel.

"Ready to fight friend?"

Azazel sighed still bitter at being played, but since Drake was going to fight with him he would let it go.

"Show me what you can do Drake."

Drake roared instinctively as Mana and Elemental energy surged through him. He rushed toward the Devil's army ready to put his new body to use. His body flicked with multiple colors as he powered up.

As for his size, he was already 70 meters long and he was still growing bigger using his Godzilla genes to reach truly giant weight and sizes. But how big he could get was even a mistery to him. All he knew was that his body demanded blood bath.
