Chapter 22: Induction Test

Kenneth fake gasped and looked surprised and asked, "What are you doing here?!"

Nagini nodded in satisfaction and said, "What do you think? I'm going to become and Auror as well!"

"What about the store? Did you not like doing business?" asked Kenneth.

Nagini laughed and said, "Actually, I'm just joking, I'm only here to see you off, I feel like a muggle woman who sends her husband to war." She actually wanted to join him; not because she wanted to become an auror, she would let him deal with all the dark wizard stuff while she dealt with all the vixens around him. her justification was, "A woman got to protect her man," but she did not want to come off as an obsessive wife, so decided against it. Besides, she really had no interested in fighting, the war with Grindelwald was enough for her, she knew that this war was something her husband had to take care of personally, she would just be there to support him when he needed her. "My man is built different, he won't fail, I only feel sorry for you, Voldemort," she thought to herself.

This time, Kenneth was really surprised, speechlessly he said, "Gini, its only a training camp, not a war or a prison, I would still see you at the end of the day."

"Shhh, can't you let a women live her fantasy?! Anyway, you better hurry, I was told most of the trainees are already arrived," she kissed Kenneth on the cheek and dashed out of the opened gate after winking at him.

Kenneth speechlessly looked at her leaving and turned to the gate keeper and asked, "you just let her in?"

The man blushed in shame and muttered, "It was hard to refuse her." He then continued with more authority, "anyway! Now that the prank is over with, let see that letter."

Kenneth handed over his letter, the gate keeper nodded and scanned Kenneth for illegal and hidden items. He then took out his wand and produced a butterfly Petronus and said, "Follow it, it will lead you to the induction hall."

Following the Petronus butterfly, Kenneth was walking down a dirt road. There were trees towering on both side of him. Nature always sat well with him; he liked the peace it brought him. As he continued to walk, a fog drifted towards him from the front, the butterfly and Kenneth both walked into it. At first, the fog was not thick, but later, Kenneth found it difficult to notice the butterfly Petronus in front of him. Knowing something was wrong, he went on full alert, he used 2 of his secondary processing units to cast both his long- and short-range recon spells. Kenneth detected that the fog was tampered with, he frowned and thought, "A test of some sort?"

"Huh? What was I thinking about again?" He felt peaceful again, forgetting what he saw with his recon spells, "right, I'm supposed to follow the Petronus. Where is it?"

"Wait, what was I thinking again?" He stopped walking, he couldn't make sense of direction and what was going on around him. It felt as though he was extremely intoxicated.

"Jason! Jason! Snap out of it!" screamed a voice.

Kenneth turned to look at the familiar voice, it was his boxing coach Jack, Jack screamed again, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOOL, KEEP YOUR GUARD UP, PUT YOUR GUARD UP!!"

"Guard? Huh? Coach what are yo_? Where am _?" Kenneth looked around, before he could register what was happening around him, something solid hit hard right on the side of his face, he was knocked down.

"DOWN! 10, 9, 8, …." Kenneth looked up to see a referee starting to count down. His head felt dizzy but his muscle memory kicked in as he wobbled back onto his feet. As Kenneth was getting up, he looked around, there was cheering and shouting, there was flashes of light and clicking sounds going off from cameras, his coach was at the corner screaming at him. When he looked forward, he saw his opponent holding his fist high in air, indicating his foreseeable victory. Kenneth put his hands up into a guard while the referee screamed, "Can you go on? Can you fight?" Kenneth nodded. He could feel a familiar stinging pain coming from his nose, cheek bone and above his right eye. He knew by instinct that his skin in these places had split open. As Kenneth felt tired, he knew he had to finish the fight fast.

The bell rang again, and he jumped on his toes, it was important to keep moving. His opponent was Oliver Smith, champion of the heavy weight class, Oliver was known to be the most aggressive slugger in the current time, he never let his opponent catch a breath and was always brutal with his attacks. But Kenneth did not mind, he himself was a slugger, he did not care for elegance in the ring, he always brought down his opponent with pure power.

As Oliver moved closer to him, Kenneth also stepped forward, he steadied is stance and got ready for another brawl. Oliver made a fake jab and went in for a body blow, Kenneth himself countered with a body blow, the match had gotten to the point where each of the boxer trading blow for blow. After exchanging blows, Oliver went for an upper but Kenneth moved his upper body as he countered with a hook. The hook connected and it was Oliver's time to go down. The referee pushed Kenneth into his corner while Kenneth lifted his fist into the air, there was screams of cheering from his fans while his coach massaged his shoulders.

His coach whispered, "what are you doing fool, go finish him!"

Startled, Kenneth looked around, the stadium was gone, everything around him was black without even a drop of sound, Kenneth was standing above two men who was on the floor, he was holding a gun. He heard his coach say again, "what are you doing fool? You lost your last match against Oliver, it crippled you and now these two thugs think they can rob you of your life? Kill them, it's not your fault, life already dealt you a bad hand, you are just taking some revenge."

"No, no, this is not what I want, I don't want this," Kenneth threw the gun to the floor and he clenched his head. He was trying to make sense of what was happening, but his brain was buzzing and he could not think clearly.

"Jason! Jason! Jase! Wake up" said a woman's voice. Kenneth jolted awake and looked around. Nagini was sitting on his bed and looking at him worriedly. "Gini? What happened?" he mumbled.

"You were having a nightmare, are you okay?" asked Nagini.

"Yea I remembered something that happened when I was a muggle," said Kenneth, he hugged Nagini tightly, wanting to feel a bit of warmth, but he never got the chance to because their bedroom was blasted into, Kenneth saw two shadows dash in and casting two stunning spells. Before he could react, he and Nagini was both stunned.

What Kenneth saw made his stomach do a few summersaults, the Corrow siblings was standing before him, Alecto said, "Thought you dealt with us well, did you? The dark lord has many races as servants, the dementors are one of them, it did not take us long to break out."

Amycus added, "We are here for revenge, remember what you made us experience? Well, I think it will be good for you to experience the same thing."

"Stop fooling around you two," another voice came from the doorway, when Kenneth saw the figure he paled, "Bellatrix the strange" he thought as he remember her fight with his father.

Bellatrix looked at Kenneth without sympathy, pointed her wand at Nagini and said, "Avada Kedavra!" The stunned Nagini got hit by a green jet of light, killing her.

*Crack*

Something broke inside Kenneth as he screamed, Magic flooded out of his body wantonly, breaking him free from the stunning spell. Kenneth teleported next to Bellatrix, grabbed her neck and pinned her to the floor, he choked her, but she just laughed hysterically, "Just die, DIE!!!" he screamed. The Corrow siblings blasted him with a knock back jinx, Kenneth got back onto his feet and teleported to Bellatrix again and started to choke her. Again, he was blasted by the siblings, getting hit for the second time brought some sense into Kenneth. He assigned one secondary processing unit to keep the short-range recon spell active while he started duelling with the three death eaters. With the 5 remaining secondary processing unit and his main soul body, he over powered the three death eaters with pure power.

Kenneth stood before the death eaters, who was laying on the floor, all stunned. He looked at them coldly, while he was fighting, he could not help but think things through, "Something was wrong, I want to kill them, but something is bugging me. That's right, how did they find me? that doesn't make sense, even if they broke out of the prison, there would have been news of it. something is not right." He looked at the lifeless Nagini, again his anger started to boil and his urge to kill manifested. He pushed the urge down and pushed his occlumency skills to the highest possible level he could muster. Immediately he noticed the surrounding faze in and out of reality, then memories started to flood into his mind, "That right! I was in the Auror training around! The Fog! It has to be it. This is a test. Damn it! This is too much for a test." The whole situation pissed him off.

He took a deep breath and adjusted his mind, since now he knew that it was a test, he was going to play his role. He took out a parchment and wrote a letter to Kingsley. The moment he sent the letter, his surrounding vanished and he was standing again in the forest with the Petronus butterfly floating in front of him.

The butterfly started to move again and Kenneth quietly followed it. Few minutes later he walked out of the thick fog and out into an open field. The Petronus dissipated, Kenneth saw that there was about 20 people in the middle of the field, when he came out of the fog, they all looked at him for a brief moment and looked away. Kenneth saw they had frowning and unhappy faces and he knew they also went through the test and probably passed it. before he walked towards them, he turned and looked at the fog, he may have passed the test but something changed in him. Kenneth wondered what he would have done if that situation really happened.

"I would probably kill them," he thought while he walked towards the rest of batch. He knew he was unqualified to join the Aurors, but he did not care, he would rather have Nagini alive than keep his morals, especially when the opponent was a death eater.

For the first time in history, the auror department was about to get a new recruit who did not pass the character evaluation test.
