Chapter 2: Small Mistake in the Summoning
After an unknown period of time Poltas opened his eyes and got blinded by the surroundings. The next time he opened them, he found himself amazed at the place he was in.
A large hall with transparent windows lining the walls and marble flooring as far as he could see, furniture was sparse and placed near the walls. The soothing sunlight poured in through the windows, coupled with the soft blue glow from glass chandeliers, making the place pleasing to the eyes.
Poltas recalled his last memories to be of his supposed death, so he was confused how he woke up on the floor of this magical place.
Perhaps he had transmigrated into one of the webnovels he had read. Having heard nothing close to a system in his mind yet, he hoped someone would fill him in on the plot.
He sat up and inspected the ground beneath him. Unlike the other plain marble tiles, the floor he sat on seemed to have a mysterious pattern with swirls and all forms of shapes.
But he didn't ponder on the pattern because his attention was on his hands.
His blunt fingers with hair on the back had transformed into smooth pointed fingers, the size of his hand greatly reduced. When he looked down at himself he noticed that his flat chest seemed to have grown some protruding masses. His thighs had become thicker and his waist thin.
'What! Did I transmigrate into a female character?! How could this happen!'
Poltas felt extremely shocked and upset. Transmigrating into a female during the ancient era was definitely not a good thing considering the lack of rights and power they had. Coming from the 21st century, Poltas believed that women can excel in many fields of life and should have autonomy.
To live as a restricted woman would already be hard to do as a woman, but now he had to do it as a man.
Seeing as no-one showed up to guide him, Poltas stood up and decided to inspect the situation himself.
He wasn't sure what kind of place he was in so he took initiative to approach the nearest window. But his journey was interrupted by a gentle voice from behind him.
"It is your good fortune to have woken up here. I am sure you have many questions about why you have been summoned here and I would be happy to accomodate you. I'm Nea, one of the Guardian's of Floretia."
A part of Poltas was happy that he could at least understand the foreign lady, but the other was enraged at the fact that she summoned him purposefully in a woman's body.
After taking a deep breath he turned around to confront her.
"And I am Poltas Clairwood, originally a man, but turned into a woman by your careless summoning."
Judging by her expression, the guardian was also shocked by his gender change.
"How did you become a woman?!?"
"How am I supposed to know, you are the one who summoned me."
Nea found herself at a loss at his response. When Nea selected him and wrote down his information she had definitely picked a man, so why did he become a woman. The fault must definitely be in the transporting services.
That damned exchange store, immediately Nea excused herself from the summoned person and went to contact the customer support.
Seeing her genuinely confused, Poltas felt a bit placated. It turned out that his gender change was not her intention, this automatically lessened the blame Poltas placed on her.
In the communication booth, Nea found out that one of the complications mentioned in the discount coupon was gender exchange. Discount coupons had a 80% of inflicting a complication.
Gender Exchange was one of the milder complications compared to Candidate developing a brain tumor or losing their sense of sight, smell and hearing.
Nea felt she could only blame herself for not being careful enough, no wonder the Officer was so willing to give a discount coupon. She tried to complain to the support staff about the Officer tricking her, but it seemed they would not take any actions against him.
Apparently the only way to switch back was through buying a potion from the Transuniversal Exchange Store, which was quite expensive.
Nea made her way back to Poltas, disheartened by all this information. But she had to suck up all her disappointment to convince her Candidate to work hard.
"Dear Poltas, after communicating with the stars above I have come to the realisation that currently your merits are too low to fully summon you here. Only by raising your merits can your physical body be summoned here."
Poltas, who had forgiven Nea by now, felt that the guardian no longer made sense. If his merits were low he wouldn't have been summoned at all. Shouldn't this be a flaw with the skill level of the guardian who summoned him.
"What do you mean my merits are low, isn't this your fault for having low skills?"
Nea was shot in the heart by this single statement from him. This was the Candidate she picked afterall, if he could be fooled so easily would she have even considered him.
"The summoning process does not require skills but a form of currency which can be earned with merits. It is true that I was lacking in currency when I summoned you, but the one who can earn merits for me to use is you."
"So I have to collect merits just to be myself again?"
"It sounds a bit crude when said like that. But once you have earned enough merits, it is possible to return to your former self."
What kind of plot was this? I became a woman in the summoned world because the summoner was too poor.
A novel of this sort had no chance of success.
'I escaped death only to end up in this unthinkable situation. Even in death I am a bit too pitiful.'
