Chapter 3: 10 000 dollars
Saturday.
Around 10 am Joe was discharge in the hospital. The manufacturer of the truck pays the compensation for the hospital bills while the company of the man wearing formal attire give Joe $10 000 dollars. After that, by lunch Joe arrive at their house. "His" sister and brother were the one that fetch him from the hospital. When he entered the house, he was greeted by a smell that made him hungry.
"Oh Joe, you're finally here. Come here and eat while the dish is still hot." "His" mother said after she put a dish in the table. And they sit and start eating.
While eating he was observing "his" family, he roams the memories of that unfortunate guy and he found lots of interesting and unfortunate things. His family is not rich but not overly poor and with the help of debt, his parents can send his sister to college. But even though his parents support her financially, the money is still not enough for her daily expenses so she takes part-time jobs in the city, like tutoring kids and being waitress in a restaurant. And now that he also will go to college, it will be an additional expense for his parents. But it will still be months away for enrollment, he can still make money in this period of time.
He also found the attitude of the unfortunate guy, he was a silent type when he was with his family but when he is with his group of friends he's a guy to be reckoned with. His predecessor was good at playing video games and in the memories, he finds that the guy became rich in playing video games, even though he was an assassin in his past life he still dreamed of becoming rich while not being in the spotlight. In his past life, it's hard to become rich while being an assassin because of the rules of the organization and now that he was in a new world, he will do everything that he didn't do in his past life with the help of those memories.
While Joe was thinking of what he will do next, his father ask him about the upcoming final exam and the college entrance exam.
Startled, "It's not bad, but I need to study more so that I can pass the exams with flying colors." Joe replied.
It's also one of his concern, the exams. But the good thing about this issue is that the assassin Joe was good at studying compared to the player Joe that died. All he need was to study all his subjects on his own and it will take all of his time but it's okay because he doesn't have anything to do at this moment. The game will be launched by the start of next year and todays is April so he still has around 8 months to decide if he will join that game.
After eating lunch, he directly goes to his bedroom to take a bath. After doing other stuff he sits in his bed and started to browse the memories about this world he was in.
This world and the world he lived in the past was basically the same but the people are not. They can also access the internet but the internet is not as popular as it will be years ahead. The gamers in this time has no way of making money, they were only losing money to play those games. There are no streaming platforms for gamers at this time because it will be introduced after Overthrow was released. That game was an era changing game. They only have a video-sharing platform that was also not popular. People mostly do business in agriculture, real state, technologies, mining, cosmetics, entertainment and healthcare. Internet is not popular yet because it was recently made. It will become popular when the game also becomes popular.
There are also underworld organization but they were not as extreme like the underworld organizations in his past life. Because if they make troubles and the government learned that they were involved, the government will clean them up really hard. There're still criminals that got arrested but they won't tell if they were part of an organization or not. They just kept quiet. Those underworld organization makes money in selling drugs, assassination, prostitution etc., sometimes members of the organization doing their "job" and will get arrested but the police can't get anything from them. Those underworld organization only operates in big cities, they only send small fries in small cities.
While Joe was still browsing the memory bank, he heard his mom called him in the living room.
"Joe! Come here. I have something to say to you." Her mom shouted from the living room.
"What is it, mom?" Joe asked while he comes out of his room. Their house is a 200 sqm house. His parents buy this house when they were newlywed.
"Here's the compensation money that the company of the truck driver gives." And my mom gives me the $10 000 cash.
"It's okay, mom! I don't want it. You can keep it and use it for the daily expenses in the house." Joe said while stopping his mom from giving him the money. Even though he needs money for what he will do next he still doesn't want the money. His parents already have lots of debts, and he also wants to help his family.
Maybe because of the memories of the old Joe he was influenced to accept the reality that he really transmigrated and based on the memories of the old Joe, his family loves him very much but he was too focus on maintaining his status in the game that he forgets about them. He also neglected his health because of that. Before he was adopted or recruited to be an assassin, he dreamed of having a family that will care for him and love him. Maybe because he was a quiet kid and not that expressive.
