Chapter 143: What Is Freedom?
"Oh make no mistake, I am not interested in you just to fill in the quota. You should know that I am being truthful when I say that I am serious about you my sweethear-" But her words were cut short because she was swallowed by the white haze that invaded the place and pulled her away.
Given her current state, it was even easier for the Administrator to do that since there was no resistance.
"This is why I don't like this bitch," It was done by none other than the Administrator who looked disgusted.
'I hope she runs into him sooner so that he can end this filthy existence,' She shook her head and searched around at the frozen area around her, but in this frozen place, there were some things that were totally unaffected.
"Thank you Goddess for sparing the candies, I thank you with all of my heart," She bowed to empty air as this was what she was worried about the most and even nearly moved because of it.
But little did she know that the reason why this happened was because the Goddess was able to identify who made those goods, and unknown to her a few boxes were missing from the pile as well.
It was just that the person who was the cause of all this was totally unaware of it, well not totally unaware….
"This is irritating," Adam muttered because of his itchy ear as soon as he entered the shop.
"Who is thinking about me?" Adam felt like he was feeling these signs way too often these days.
'Anyway, let's see if I can go there now,' Adam thought taking out the watch and…
"Seriously, not even a single minute?" Adam sat down on the couch with a heavy sigh after checking the clock.
Almost no time had passed when he had spent 7 days in Ai's world, This all felt ridiculous but it wasn't that out of place.
"It makes sense given how the flow of time in that place has been altered," Adam could only shake his head, he didn't know how much time it would take for Rias's world to be open again if he stayed in the shop, it would definitely be a sizable amount.
It is not that he can't wait, if anything he needed more time to think over his words but the problem was that if he stayed in the shop…
"There is a high chance there will be a client barging in," And he didn't want to deal with that for now since he had enough problems on his hands as is, and he wasn't keen on adding more to the pile.
Well, it wasn't like there was no solution to this since Adam could think of a few ways from the top of his head, but the best one was.
"To make more time pass I need to go to a world with an irregular time flow that doesn't match the shop," Adam muttered and currently he had two options for this.
"It is either visiting to check up on Robin, or use this random world hopping ticket," Adam took out the white card with a golden pattern that was flickering softly.
He had this card for a while and this seemed like a good opportunity to use it since it could help him but...
'There is also a chance that I go to a world that has a slower time flow, in that case, this would be for naught and there is a heavy chance that I might get involved in another problem,' Adam sighed but there was no need to worry since the first option was better.
"For the first time I am thankful to that damned monkey," Adam muttered with a sigh since the reason he asked that guy to slow down the time was because of how fast it was in comparison to the shop.
But of course that Administrator declined and it was in his favor at this moment. This is why without wasting any time Adam left his shop once again, his destination was Robin's world. not only would he be able to pass a significant amount of time but he would also be able to check up on Robin
And as much as he wanted to just go straight into the world without seeing the annoying guy, there was no way he could do that as that was how the rules were.
"Hihihi, you came again," The Administrator laughed seeing Adam, It wasn't like he was mocking Adam but this was just something he did all the time.
'This and eating,' Adam hadn't seen this guy with a drumstick in his hand along with that wide smile till now, not even for a second.
Even then it wasn't like Adam would just go simply after that teasing glance in this guy's eyes.
"Well, what can I do, the person who talks about freedom so much has placed so many restrictions on me, so even if I don't want to agree, I have to come to check things," Adam complained and the Administrator still smiled since he knew that he didn't mean it and on top of that.
"Hihihi, but I didn't do anything like that," The Administrator laughed while Adam frowned, There is no way this guy just said that he may have been joking before but this wasn't a nice one.
"Now Now, Don't make such a scary face, I just told you the rules, the one who followed them was you," The Administrator said as Adam's frown deepened but he still continued, "And it wasn't like you were following my rules in the end, Correct?"
'I wonder how much he knows, his harmless look shouldn't be taken at face value I guess,' Adam thought looking at the Administrator of Robin's world, he didn't even seem bothered by the stare he was getting and the reason for that was simple.
"Who am I to restrict someone's freedom? It is something I have no control over," The Administrator said but….
"But you do have control over it in this universe even over me with the large gulf between our combat power," Adam spoke and the Administrator shook his head at those words.
"No matter how much power we have, Freedom can never be controlled, It is true for me, for you, and even the Goddess of Wishes," The Administrator stood up with a smile and came over to Adam who was just standing in place.
"Hihihi, Just because one is stronger doesn't mean that they are freer than the one who is weaker, You should know that already, right?" Adam looked at the administrator who kept smiling while speaking.
But it wasn't like he could deny his words, what he said was indeed true. And there was a big problem with that because….
'I already know that since I have lived through it,' Adam became stronger for the sake of escaping the world he was transported to.
He was by no means strong in the start, but in order to attain his freedom he fought, Even then the stronger he became with each year the worse it got for Adam as he started to lose himself in the process.
And even after becoming the strongest being in that universe he was still unable to get out of that place without entering a contract with the Goddess of Wishes, and yes that had bound him further.
His strength had put limits on what he could do and what he couldn't, the strength that he sought after had placed more shackles on him than it lifted, but in a sense, Adam was aware of that and he was fine with it since in the end he had something he wanted to achieve.
The wish that he had held onto so desperately was something needed such shackles in a way.
But that was the point, even with so much strength he couldn't get the freedom he sought and he still needed to be careful with every step because of that power.
In a way, Adam's power had placed more limitations on him now compared to when he was weaker.
Even then, the Administrator wasn't talking about this, what he wanted to point out was…
"As long as you aren't free here," The Administrator poked at Adam's chest aiming at his heart before continuing with a smirk, "You'll never be free no matter how powerful you become."
"Yo-…" Adam's eyes widened but before he could speak he was already falling.
