Chapter 34: 2nd Year Baseline Assessment II

'Peter, just give these exams your all. Don't worry about hiding your potential.' Noah said.

'Why? Weren't we planning to hide our strength?'

'Hiding too much ain't good either. We need resources too, recognition by higher ups. Stuff like that is important for a person like us with no backing.'

'Fine. I'll give it my all.'

"Your first test will be an academic test. The series of tests will be the same. You will conduct 2 tests and as you're blind, the questions are in braille. You have 2 hours to finish these questions. Recite the question number and the answer to Friday and he will insert an answer in the online test, so we can mark the answers instantly. Okay begin."

Two test papers were slid in front of Peter. Instinctively, he opened the test papers and began moving his fingers over the dots.

In half an hour Peter had finished the first test paper and moved on to the next. The first test paper consisted of various topics about mana, how it arised, what cultivation was etc- basic information that first year students would be expected to have learnt.

The second paper was more advanced and difficult than the first paper, but he still managed to speed through it.

When he finished the paper and the results of the 2 papers appeared on a holographic screen in front of professor Granger, she only sat in silence, acknowledging that Peter was indeed a genius. She knew his case and applauded his intelligence.

'So the famous missing boy was actually such a genius. No wonder he survived a year in an enchanted zone.' She thought, clearing his throat and telling Peter his score.

"Congratulations. You have scored full marks on both papers. You have been rewarded 100/100 points for this exam.

"Your next exam will be a potential valuation. Please place your hands on the glass orb in front of you." she instructed.

Peter felt delighted about acing the first exam but shook his jolly mood to a serious and focused one, realizing he still had to do 4 more exams. He felt around and found a cold glass orb. Placing his hand on it, he waited until suddenly the orb started pulling all of his mana out of the tiny mana core at a rapid rate like the first time he did this test.

He gritted his teeth, bearing the pain the rapid mana depletion was causing him. After a couple seconds the pain stopped and the instructor finally spoke.

"You may take your hands off the orb."

Peter removed his hand from the orb, sitting back in his chair and attentively waiting for his result.

"I will now read out the results and give you points based on the results of this exam.

Mana core rank: 6th stage, Novice Rank

Magic Affinity: Darkness

Mana Efficiency: Above average

Mana Control: Above average

Overall Potential Rating: <A->.

"I must say I am surprised. Your cultivation is average for a 2nd year, but you control and efficiency is good so... I'm going to be generous and give you 87 points out of a 100 for this exam."

The professor caught Peter clenching fists tightly and took that as a cue to keep going with the tests.

"We will now be conducting an aptitude test. It will be in the same format as the first Theory exam."

Peter sighed, getting ready for the 3rd exam. One couldn't revise for an aptitude test as the answers were never the same for each question. However, Peter still managed to learn the patterns in the mark scheme for what they would want as an answer.

"3…2…1… Begin."

The sound of a clock ticking began and Peter's fingers began brushing past the lines of braille, voicing out answers to Friday as he moved on without stopping till he got to the last 2 questions of the test.

[Would you cripple your cultivation to save your most loved person?]

Peter waited and thought about the funny question.

"No."

For others it may have been a difficult question but for him it was simple. He didn't have anyone like that. His brother was already dead; his most beloved person in this world had already passed away.

He moved on to the last question and smiled at the question.

[If you could bring anyone back from the dead, who would you bring back and why?]

'My brother of course.' He thought.

'Haha. But I'm right here. So where do we go from here?' Noah laughed.

"Skip."

"Would you like to go over the skipped questions?" Friday asked in a monotonous voice.

"No."

"Would you like to end the test?"

"Yes."

"Test complete."

The professor waited a couple seconds before the results popped up on a hologram. She smiled, voicing out the results.

"You have received 94% in the Mage Aptitude test placing you in band 1 out of the 5 bands. Therefore, I will be grading you 94 points.

"We'll be moving onto the penultimate test now." The professor clicked her fingers and the table Peter was resting his hands on disappeared and the whole room changed into a large 400 meter by 400 meter white combat hall.

As Peter got up from the seat, realizing their location had changed. The chair also vanished and only the Professor and Peter were left in the room.

"I want you to perform either 1 complete Combat form of a martial art or 2 incomplete forms." The professor instructed.

Peter nodded showing off the First Form of the 'Ethereal Arts' martial art; his body moved perfectly like a dance as he executed a sequence of punches and kicks.

"Bravo! Mr Magtris. Truly a talent." Miss Granger struggled to keep her excitement back as her eyes gleamed, seeing a new rising star in front of her.

"92 Points." She smiled, clicking her fingers.

**

"Congratulations Mr Magtris, you've passed with flying colors. 458/500 is an exceptional score placing you in the top 5% in your year group. You've been placed in Class 1!" She smiled, shaking Peter's hand excitedly.

The truth was she wanted to see an underdog like Peter. She wanted to see the balance of the hierarchy shift. How would the higher ups react if they found out a blind boy had reached the tip of the talents?

"Thank you Miss Granger." Peter bowed, hiding a smile as he walked out of the room.

"Hoho. Took you long enough. Peter Magtris."

Peter frowned when he heard the President's voice in front of him. Why couldn't she just leave him alone?

Peter sighed, "What can I help you with Uriel Holmes?"

"That's Miss Holmes to you!" He personal Bodyguard exerted his mana pressure onto Peter, expecting him to fall to his knees but instead, peter just stood there nonchalantly, with his hands in his pockets.

"I'm gonna ask again, What can I help you with Uriel Holmes?"

Uriel blushed momentarily before turning around, "See you in school! Peter."

Her bodyguards followed her out, giving the young boy a glare before turning around.

'Times are going to get rough, it seems.' Peter sighed.
