Chapter 4: Call

"Hello!" The first response was to inform the other person on the call regarding the owner of the phone's circumstances and why it was a stranger who answered...

Nonetheless, the person on the other call did not even greet back, as it interrupted Kopi, "I don't know who answers this, or whatever. Since you have his phone, then you should know him.

I don't want to waste any of my time, so I will be direct. Tell that bastard that he has now owed us fifty thousand dollars. If he wants to pay for it, then tell him to come to the Company and sign the ten-year agreement.

That's all!"

The call ended while Kopi was still stunned.

A while later, when awoke in reality, he shivered… he bit his lower lip, and blood poured out, slithered to his chin, falling to the ground.

He clenched his bony hand tightly with veins emerging, and so was his forehead.

His other gaunt hand was trying its best not to crush his Father's only phone.

Even if he had a notion of buying a new and better one, he still refrained.

When he believed it was difficult for him not to pulverize the phone, he slowly returned it to his Father's pocket and accidentally landed his infuriated gaze on him.

Hatred blossomed in his heart.

Now, his Father's recklessness was starting to affect them, especially his little brother.

He deeply loved his little brother, and the fact the latter was so exhausted and weary after screaming for his Father's condition only enraged him.

However, soon his exasperation cooled down.

'I should blame no one for this. On the contrary, it's their fault, not my father.'

Kopi tried to recall the company his Father works for.

If he remembered correctly, it was the Wright company, a large company owned by the Wright family, whose head was the Mayor of the municipality of Paville.

Wright's Company was a versatile one.

They were divided into specializations.

Business Companies, Construction Companies, and many more.

The company also aided the owner in winning the mayor's position, given the number of its local workers.

'It must be him.'

Kopi thought, trembling in anger.

He arrived at the conclusion it was the Mayor who instigated it.

He might not be the actual cause or only the person working under him who instigated it, but they were still connected nonetheless.

It should also be connected to the event his Father pleaded for the Mayor.

"Curses! Wait when I am finally an official Awakener, and I will surely return this favor tenfold," he mumbled.

His eyes burned in outrage.

Kopi returned to the dilapidated crouch and gently sat on it. He was afraid to break it, or else he would be sitting on the floor.

Then, he began to ponder about what happened earlier.

'Phew, at least, some good news that makes me really can't call this day a bad one!'

It should have been an awful day for him, but with his longed and anticipated Gift finally manifested, what could be more unfortunate than it?

'But what is really the Gift I receive?'

Kopi started to recall the information he knew about Gifts.

Gifts were divided into many categories. What he only knew so far were five categories.

First was Superhuman Gifts. As the name suggested, it was a Gift that made a human superhuman.

One such thing was a Superstrength. Eventually, the strongest known person who possessed such a Gift could grab a tank without effort and use it as a means to hurl against the enemy.

There was also the Speed as well. A person who was even known to have such a Gift could break the wind barrier just by running, and he was regarded as "Flash." He was named after his favorite fictional character.

Kopi was reminded of another peculiar individual who was also placed in the Superhuman Gifts Category. His name was "Zombie" due to his high regenerative ability.

After all, Superhuman Gifts weren't really limited to strength and speed as well. Gifts such as regenerative were considered as Superhuman Gifts too.

But, of course, if one received Gifts of elemental manipulation, despite being a Superhuman in a sense, they belonged to another category.

"Nope, my gift should certainly not belong to the Superhuman Gifts category. I mean… how is extracting another Gift, from what I recalled, considered Superhuman? I mean, it's above in a Human sense, but still…

Argh!!! This is so frustrating…"

The main concept he comprehended from his knowledge of the Superhuman Gifts, aiding him to ace his exam, was that Superhuman Gifts relied on the Gift on the physical body.

For his Gift to be activated, he had to touch someone, so it could be considered a Gift of the physical body.

However, he was confident it should not be.

"Wait, since I need to touch others for my Gift to be activated, then that means I can also know if they have a Gift and what they are?"

Kopi then thought of his Father and tried to recall if his Father mentioned having a Gift.

From what he knew, all of the people past 25 years of age have awakened their Gifts.

Kopi was curious as to what Gift his father had awakened.

"Come to think of it, I really didn't touch my father. I mean, his skin. After all, he wore clothes.

And… it is the same for my-"

He turned silent when he recalled he actually touched his brother and his Gift did not manifest.

"It's okay, my younger brother. You are still young. You just turned twelve, and you can still awaken your gift for many years to come."

He giggled as he continued to mumble, "Look at me. I only received my Gift after turning sixteen."

After chuckling, he stood up from the dilapidated crouch and glanced at his Father.

He was sleeping soundly and peacefully. His face was now cleaned from dry blood, making his dark-tanned skin fresh.

Kopi was amused by how similar their faces were.

'I really inherited his face.' He tittered and began to walk towards him.

When he finally arrived, before deciding to touch his Father, an idea emerged.

'If I recall correctly, my Father awakened the Superhuman Gift. Since he could handle the workload from construction, it should be a strength-related gift, right?'
