Chapter 44: A Hero Arrives
"Carl sweetie, we have some visitors we need to attend to," Carla said with a smile as she beckoned for Carl to follow her as she walked toward the door.
Carl glanced at Carla with confusion before getting up and following her, with Isabella being right behind the two as well.
Carl came out of his apartment and saw nobody there, but Carla was still saying nothing and was merely walking to the stairs, so Carl and Isabella glanced at each other before shrugging their shoulders and following after her.
Isabella didn't know much about Carla, but she sensed that she was not a normal person, she doubted that Carla would do anything weird without a reason, and Carl already knew that she was at least an S-grade villain, so he knew that whatever was going on wouldn't be dangerous to them.
As they all made it outside and walked over to the parking lot, a car suddenly appeared and entered the parking lot. It was a sports car, quite a valuable one, and upon stopping the car, the driver, as well as the person sitting next to him, came outside.
Carl's eyebrows furrowed as he saw the face of the man he had slapped back at the restaurant after the latter tried to steal from him. The man had a seemingly worried expression on his face, especially after seeing Carl who was standing mere meters away from them.
The other person was a young man that was looking quite angry. Upon seeing Carla, Carl, and Isabella, he stopped before glancing at the other person.
"Is that the guy?"
"Y-yeah, but bro … I don't think this is-"
"Shut up!" The man said angrily before looking over to Carl.
"Tell me, will you break your arms, or do I need to break them myself?"
Upon hearing the question, Carl cocked his head to the side as Carla chuckled. Isabella was looking at the two parties with some confusion, to which Carl briefly explained what had happened during his drive over to her city.
"The stronger big brother trope, really?" Isabella asked Carl who sighed as he glanced over to the man.
[ Yeah, this is a bit overused. ]
'Not like I wanted it, this guy, he's a superhuman as well, isn't he?'
[ Yeah, don't worry, even though he is a bit stronger than you, he is still a D-grade, and also, he's a hero. ]
Carl's eyes narrowed down upon hearing the system's words.
"You knew they were coming?"
Carla nodded her head and smiled at Carl upon hearing the question, which made him sigh again.
"So what, you want me to fight him or something, is that why you brought me down here?"
"Yes, you brought this on yourself, and you're not a weakling, you can deal with it, I'm just here to spectate, and to deal with any interference," Carla said with a soft smile, which made the young man narrow his eyes at her and Isabella.
"Bringing over two chicks, you trying to make me pity you, do you think I care if girls are present!?" The man said as he started walking over to Carl.
The air around him started changing, which the three immediately noticed. In an instant, the situation changed. The hot-headed young man suddenly stopped as Carla appeared right next to him and grabbed his shoulder while cold air blew from the front as Isabella glared at him seriously and used her ability.
'Huh, these two, they're superhuman as well?' The young man, who had just arrived and didn't think things through much thought as suddenly felt some danger.
Upon being called by the hospital, as well as the police, he dropped everything and went over to his brother.
Upon seeing the state he was in, with his jaw broken and several teeth missing, the young hero had almost lost control of himself and had wrecked part of the room his brother was staying at.
He got out and started shouting at the police, berating them for not arresting the person responsible for it, only to be told what had happened.
He, unfortunately, was not the understanding kind of person that knew how to take responsibility and even started yelling at the police offers more. As a D-grade hero, he was actually higher ranked than the officers, and one phone call from him was enough to release his brother and have all charges dropped.
Although one would think that a hero would make sure their family members were not criminals and would do his best to keep them away from a life of crime, in this case, the hero in question did not care.
His brother was very important to him, and he had a soft spot for him. It wasn't as if it was the usual story of the siblings who had lost their parents and only had themselves to look out for, no, both of them had parents that loved them, but they decided to leave them upon reaching 18.
Both were troublemakers when they were young and once, the young hero had gotten angry at his brother and unknowingly used his ability for the first time, nearly killing his brother.
If it wasn't for the hero that had been nearby, his brother would be dead now. The hero sensed the power he used and quickly arrived at their apartment. Upon realizing what had happened, the young man had almost broken down, but upon being told that his brother could still be saved and that he could become someone great one day, he went with the hero.
He joined the HA because they were the ones that not only saved his brother, but had done it in such a way that no side-effects had been left, and thanks to the fact that the hero that saved him was someone quite highly ranked, the young man decided to join them as he wished not to uphold justice and keep people safe, but to become rich and popular around the world.
It was because of that that after his brother had healed, he immediately used a favor and got his handler to locate Carl before going over to his place, with his brother in the car. His brother knew his temper and did his best to placate him and calm him down, but it didn't work.
He also wanted to see Carl get beaten up, but he didn't want his brother to suffer for it, after all, a hero helping out a criminal that was doing crime just because he was bored and wanted some more money was already very bad for PR, but beating up a guy that did nothing but defend himself and his property?
That was a PR nightmare, a PR suicide.
Unfortunately, nothing he said worked, and they had arrived at the place Carl was staying at, and now, he wished he had done more to get his brother to stop as he saw the ice that was forming around Isabella, and Carla who was touching his brother without any discomfort being present on her face.
"You're a bit too eager, you will get your chance to fight, don't worry, but not here," Carla said before suddenly snapping her fingers.
Suddenly, all five of them disappeared from the spot and appeared in a desert. The car was with them as well, and Carl looked around, but couldn't see anything else but the desert that was around them.
"This is a nice place for a life-and-death battle, right?" Carla asked Carl who stared at her suspiciously.
"Where are we?"
"Somewhere where nobody will find us, so don't worry, both of you can go all out and not worry about a thing."
"Oh, and do keep in mind, if you lose, I'm going to kill your brother, and I'm going to do it very slowly," Carla said as she suddenly appeared next to the hero's brother, which made him open his eyes in shock.
"He has nothing to do with this, let him go!" The young hero said, but Carla just chuckled.
"Do I look like I care if he has anything to do with it or not?"
"You came to the private residence of 2 villains and their handler, did you really think you could just come, fight a bit, and then leave?"
The two men froze as they heard Carla's voice. In his anger, the young hero had completely forgotten to think of what would happen if Carl was stronger than him, or if he had helpers.
He had completely denied the possibility of Carl being a villain since a villain wouldn't have simply beaten up his brother and the others but killed them in cold blood.
"I – We … we didn't know, please, we – we will leave!" The man who was slapped by Carl said as great fear appeared on his face, but Carla merely chuckled before placing her hand on his head and making him pass out.
"Here is what is going to happen, you two are going to fight, and if you manage to win, you get your brother and car back, and you can leave."
"If you lose, you and your brother will die tonight."
