Chapter 72: Contractual Tensions: Carl and Nacht's Exchange

"Carl."

"Nacht."

Carl stared at the blank face of Nacht who had seemingly just fully recovered.

"Your hand alright?"

"Yeah, I'm back at full strength," Nacht said as he showed his hand which had previously been destroyed by the sniper.

"I heard you did well during the monster outbreak, you defeated a B-grade," Nacht said as he sat down on the chair and smugly smiled at Carl.

"Congratulations, you were able to do a part of what I had done during my last mission."

"Don't be so smug, I'm only a handler and yet I can do that much, aren't you embarrassed, as the villain that is contracted to me, a strong B-grade that is almost about to become an A-grade thanks to his strength, you are just that much powerful than me?"

"I was able to defeat a strong B-grade monster and several weaker monsters during my first-ever battle, you should train more, I would hate it if you were to fall behind me, or my other villains."

"After all, I already have several B-grade villains contracted to me, one has killed 3 B-grade monsters in the previous outbreak and killed many more weaker ones, his achievements so far are higher than yours, and the newest villain I have contracted, well, let's just say that she is going to have a lot of achievements soon as well, she already killed a B-grade and did quite a lot during the outbreak, and she's not even a combatant."

Nacht's face changed as he heard Carl speak, and Carl got more and more smug and arrogant.

"Are you trying to get me mad, handler?" Nacht asked as a red phantom suddenly appeared next to Carl, but the latter merely smirked.

"Please get this thing out of here, it's no threat to me, I don't want you to be embarrassed by seeing it get destroyed in an instant." Nacht's face changed again as he stared at Carl.

'This guy, what the hell happened while I was recovering, he's become arrogant, but it seems he has enough strength to back up his arrogance, not to mention the other villains he has contracted, just who the hell are they?!'

'I'm the one with the lowest achievements?!'

'I have to work hard in the future to not be outdone by them all?!'

'This little bastard, I'll make him swallow his words.'

Nacht's phantom disappeared as the latter continued staring at him with a hostile gaze.

"You've become different, arrogant."

"Is it because of that thing Nicht gave you?"

Carl merely smirked at Nacht without saying a thing.

As for the existence of the system, he didn't have to worry that the agency would find out, the system came from the agency after all, so the ones at the top definitely knew about it, if anyone was to listen in to his current conversation, he was certain the system would make sure they didn't hear what they didn't need to hear.

"What's wrong Nacht?"

"Don't be nervous, I won't let you go, I'll make you into a fine villain, one that can think with his head before he causes mayhem like before."

"I was doing well the entire time, I didn't need any help," Nacht said with a calm voice as Carl sneered.

"You lost your hand, and you were about to be attacked by another hero, a B-grade hero."

"Without planting the bombs as I said, you wouldn't have been able to kill those two, you would've been forced to flee the battle with grievous injuries in the end, so don't act so cocky," Carl said as he sighed.

"Having confidence in your power is a good thing, you truly do have an amazing ability that can allow you to rise to the very top, but you also need to use your brain, an ability like yours can be used in so many ways that it's not even funny, so get creative, think of a plan, think of some countermeasures, that way, you'll be able to do the most with it."

"I don't need you to tell me what my ability can, or can't do, I know it better than you," Nacht said, but it was clear he had actually taken the advice seriously.

"I know, nobody knows just how powerful and useful an ability is compared to the person that has it, I'm just being the person that is looking outside the box, telling you of what I might do."

"When one gets an ability, they will make a pattern with it, using it in a similar way each time they fight, most never even notice it before it is too late."

"As my contracted villain, I am the one that needs to remind you of this and help you become as powerful as you can be, as well as successful."

"If you were to die because I didn't pay enough attention, it would affect me negatively, I might lose some points with the agency."

"Humph, alright, no need to get so emotional with me."

'This bastard, I think I'm starting to prefer working with Blorg more than with him.'

'This bastard, he was just a weakling a couple of days ago, and now he is lecturing me.'

Carl and Nacht were both starting to get pissed off at the other party as they continued talking.

Nacht had no plans for now, the city close to him was still under close surveillance because of what he had previously done, if he was to cause any trouble now, there might be a couple of A-grade heroes that come out to eliminate him.

He was arrogant and confident in his own strength, but even he had to admit that he wouldn't be able to defeat or even successfully get away from a couple of A-grade heroes.

His current strength was definitely at the A-grade, and he was confident that he could defeat one A-grade by himself, he could even fight 2 at once and not lose, but more was too much.

"I called you because I want to order some custom items, I heard one of your villains is a crafter?" Nacht asked, to which Carl nodded before his expression changed.

'This bastard, does he want to talk to Blorg?'

'You cost me a bonus reward the last time because you hung up when I wanted you to merely have a conversation with him, and now you want to talk and get some items?!'

"I want to talk to him, and order some items from him, we are under the same handler after all, so I'm hoping to get a discount as well."

"He doesn't want to talk to you," Carl said in a blunt tone.

"What?"

"Remember when I called you a couple of weeks ago when I told you that I wanted you to talk to another villain that I had signed a contract with?"

"Don't tell me."

"Yeah, it was him."

"He doesn't like talking to other villains, but he made an exception because I asked him to talk to you, and you simply hung up, he felt quite hurt because of that, so he doesn't want to talk to you."

"I could, potentially, put in a good word, perhaps get him to make you an item or two before he starts making the items that were already ordered by others."

"Alright, alright, what do you want?" Nacht asked in an annoyed tone as Carl chuckled slightly.

"You'll owe me a favor, and when the time arrives for me to cash it in, you can't say no, of course, I won't ask you to do anything that is above your capabilities."

"Alright, that seems fair enough," Nacht said before he sighed.

"I'll use my ability to make a prototype of the item I would want to get made, I'll also write down what it should do and how it should behave."

"I'll send them to my guy, no worries."

"Anything else?" Carl asked Nacht who shook his head.

"I need to focus on making those prototypes, I'll make several and write down my request for several items, the crafter can choose which ones he wishes to make first and how to change them according to his will, of course, the main function should still remain the same."

Carl and Nacht talked a bit longer before they ended the call, after which Carl leaned back on his sofa and started chuckling.

"To think the day the arrogant bastard gets put down by me arrived so soon, I have to admit, I see why some people like acting like a-holes and like they're superior to others, it can be quite fun."

[ I agree, it is quite fun, especially when you know that the person you are talking to truly is inferior to you in all aspects, including his physical appearance, intellect, and more. ]

'You're talking about me, aren't you?'

'You don't even have a body, so shut up, if you did have a body, you would probably look like an ugly side character that is there to get pity points from the watchers.'

[ I'll have you know that I'm quite beautiful, you bastard! ]
