Chapter 33: Capital of the Northern Dynasty

A pair of pitch-black eyes, like the darkest part of a void, snapped open, and the first thing he saw was a robust, fat man munching on an apple.

He removed a huge portion in one bite and chewed savagely. 'He does eat like his name. A pig.' Li Chen scowled, realizing he was back in the comic.

However, he did not find the room familiar. They were probably in a different place. Sunlight illuminated the small room, which only had the wooden bed he laid on. Besides the bed was a plate filled with fruits, which Pig Yun was planning to lay his large hands on.

[What happened?]

His deep, thick voice, which echoed in the room, coupled with how he abruptly sat up, made Pig Yun's arms tremble.

The apple fell from his mouth.

"You…! You fainted suddenly, why?"

[A few reasons. Where are we and how long was I unconscious?]

"Hey! Refer to me as the great one when you ask questions. Humph!" Pig Yun pointed at him, leveling a glowering look towards Li Chen.

Ignoring the fat man, he looked around. His eyes dilated when he didn't see the object he was searching for.

[Where's my sword?]

"It's outside."

Pig Yun turned his head, following Li Chen, who shot to his feet, pushed the door open, and looked right and left.

Having seen his sword leaning against the wall, he heaved a sigh of relief and grabbed it. [Pig Yun, I would appreciate it if you told me everything that happened after I fell unconscious.]

Pig Yun glared at him for a while and sighed. His mean look didn't work on Li Chen, a man who could barely show expressions so he gave up.

"You suddenly fell right in front of Big Brother Yi so he tended to both you and the Miss. We thought you were dead but Big Brother said you were still alive so we brought you to the capital. It's been a week. Also, Miss told me to watch you and you are to meet her once you awaken."

[Where is she?]

"At the courtyard. Wait, I'll come with... Pig Yun couldn't finish when Li Chen put on his boots and left.

Walking through the corridor, Li Chen tightened his grip on his sheath. The familiar energy coursing through his meridians made him feel better. His steps were fluid, and his muscles, honed almost to perfection, were a stark contrast to his real body.

He paused before a window, held the frame, and looked down. The sight of the endless buildings, tall and short, made him blink. This was different from the bushes around Xiu Ying's manor.

Turning, he walked downstairs. Li Chen found himself in a broad hall with open corridors connecting to different places that had rows of rooms.

The workers, mostly women, wore pink and had beautiful jade hairpins. Their Hanfu robes swayed as they walked about, taking care of their customers demands.

The men did most of the cleaning and their dressing couldn't match that of the ladies. Certainly, most of them took a second glance at Li Chen, but instead of whispering as he expected, they smiled, bowed, and went their way.

This was the capital of the Northern Dynasty, home to powerful clans and sects and they had one of the most powerful military forces. A masked man wasn't rare but Li Chen stood out because of how exquisite and lacking vital parts of the mask.

He walked onto a bridge built above a lake and looked around. The wooden walkway was constructed to form various paths above the water, leading to pavilions.

After searching for a while, he jumped, circulating his energy around him. A ripple spread as he soared above the lake, occasionally stepping on the water surface.

Gently landing on solid ground, he ran into a bamboo forest. But this one wasn't natural. It was grown by a wood cultivator and had a certain allure.

Walking through the forest, he looked around, spotting some people chatting or couples flirting. The moment he turned to his left, like he had done for the past few minutes, his eyes narrowed.

Seated dozens of meters away was his master. She assumed a lotus position and between her palms, she spun a mass of red and golden energy.

This was a sign of an immortal Daoist. They were able to keep their internal circulation under control while monitoring their external energies. Their connection with the star realm had grown stronger and their auras were more potent.

After an unknown period of time, Xiu Ying's long lashes trembled and her eyelids went up, revealing her enchanting phoenix eyes.

Although she looked enchanting, her short, curly hair and slightly darker skin made Li Chen question what he saw.

The woman he assumed was Xiu Ying was basically flawless in every way. If there was a grade of beauty that could cause nations to go to war, then that celestial beauty could easily make the mortal realm descend to chaos.

Their eyes met for the briefest moments and Xiu Ying stood up. She cleaned the leaves off her black and red robe before approaching him.

"Why did you faint?"

[I don't know.]

Xiu Ying's eyes narrowed further, her lips curled upwards and she approached him. "Are you hiding something from me?"

[What do you think?]

Xiu Ying scoffed, turned her head, and smiled. The next moment, she snapped back to him and pointed at where his nose was supposed to be.

"Don't try to trick me with wordplay. Three months ago, you were a mere mortal yet you grew to become a 9-star immortal human cultivator and master your dark element in that short span. Who do you want to fool?!"

Li Chen thought of saying "you" right at her beautiful face but the repercussions might not be friendly.

[I haven't mastered my elements and the selection is tomorrow. Like I told you, I might be regaining my cultivation level.]

Li Chen turned away from her and sat down on the ground. He leaned against a bamboo and placed his sword on his bent right knee.

Xiu Ying's eyes lingered on the white floating words for a while. "Look at you, my slave, having your own personal agendas." She snickered, her fingers entwined at her back.

[You're an annoying master.]
