Chapter 17: Tenth Anniversary, New Teachers and Mutant Pieces of Evil

At age 10 my father brought me the machine that guaranteed me my evil parts. The machine was quite beautiful. It had the appearance of an isekai portal with a circular platform attached to a square half-open box from which the pieces would exit. A black crystal orb was floating in the center of the stone portal and emitted a mysterious and rather intimidating glow. The process was very simple. I was supposed to channel as much demonic energy as I could without passing out into the artifact and wait for it to spawn my pieces. The machine would use the energy to materialize the artifacts of demonic magic with all the expected functionality and would spit out a box with the 15 pieces based on chess. My role was as simple as injecting energy and that's what I did... But I also channeled my magical energy because, let's face it, I had two energy sources that I could use and the chances of having mutated pieces would just increase with that.

And I got a total of 8 Evil Mutant Pieces and 7 Normal Pieces. The queen piece, 3 pawns, 2 bishops, 1 rook and 1 knight were mutant pieces. My dad was delighted and I just smiled. It made sense that the bishop and queen pieces had mutations since I was a magic type more than any other type, but I didn't think much about the others. Dad was very happy and proud of me and promised me a reward. I had already decided what to ask of him, however.

I asked him to get me trainers for swordplay, melee and battle, plus the noble demonic etiquette and tactics to win the Ranking Games.

...

"So, let me introduce you to the teachers you asked me to." Dad showed up one day with a group of demons. "These are Souji Okita, he was the captain of the first unit of Shinsengumi a special Kyoto police force during the Bakumatsu period and one of the best swordsmen in Shinsengumi, along with Hajime Saitou and Nagakura Shinpachi." He introduced Dad pointing to a Japanese man with a white haori and a katana around his waist. "He is currently the knight of Sirzechs. This one," he pointed to a beautiful woman with black hair and giant breasts. She was very cute and relatively short. "She is Serafal Leviathan and is one of the 4 Maou of the underworld. She will teach you magic. The white-haired lady is Grayfia and she will teach you the magic and etiquette of demonic society." He said introducing everyone but Sirzechs.

"Eh... Dad, who's the redhead?"

"Sirzechs Lucifer, the current strongest Maou... self-styled." Dad said with the last part whispered.

"Nice to meet you, Mr Sirzechs and Lady Serafal. You too, Miss Grayfia and Okita-san. I hope they take care of me."

"Ara, what a cute boy! Ajuka, you hid it from me. Evil!" Maou puffed out her cheeks before catching me in her embrace I screwed. "I'll never come back to you, Vi-chan. Call me Neechan from now on."

I looked with empty eyes aimed at my teachers with a silent plea for help.

"Coff...coff...Falbium will take care of your strategy and art of war training next week. Until then, learn everything you can. I'm going to see your mother."

The bastard abandoned me with demons. What an irresponsible father. And Miss Serafal was trying to make my organs leak if her grip gives any clues.

Sigh... this is going to be long.

And that's how I started to physically torture myself every day to get stronger. Now that I think about it, my hunger for strength wouldn't be possible without that countdown, whatever it is. So in a way I should thank her. Dad brought some trustworthy people with him and I finally met his friends. Sirzechs Lucifer, Serafal Leviathan and Falbium Asmodeus. Each of them taught me a few things... Although in Sirzechs' case, Grayfia was the real instructor. He was just... spoiling me. Of course, getting to know them in a social context and in a more serious context was just too jarring. My body actually locks up from so much pressure. At least from the others since Sirzechs was, pardon the word, a cute idiot.

Apparently he wasn't a pedophile, I think. There was no lust in his eyes when he stared at me, just a frightening amount of eagerness. In fact, he kind of forced me to call him big brother, even though he was my dad's age. I really wanted to name the redhead uncle, but he was nice and I liked being pampered so I satisfied his weird need.

Serafal was almost identical to him. Only female and with costumes. I don't know if Sirzechs would use things like that without Grayfia, but I hoped not. Why the hell were the Maou so eccentric? About Falbium, he taught me about war tactics, chess and governance. As far as I know he was the commander of the underworld armies and it wasn't because of his laziness, but because of his talent. Come to think of it, he was the real Shikamaru of this world.

I learned swordplay from Souji-san, the knight of Sirzechs and he was a cruel Spartan... even though he was Japanese. His training was pretty tough since I told him he shouldn't take it easy. I didn't regret it, but it hurt like a bitch. I could be the first person to actually claim that training took blood and tears from me. Because that's what happened. Literally. I had no scars to prove it, but it was only because my mom was a pretty capable healer and my magic automatically healed me.

Thank god for that!

Ah, I could think and speak God's name. Apparently only a few hybrids have issues with the big G. Either that or the fact that I have sacred gear attached to my soul makes me immune to these silly attacks from the sky system. Thinking about it makes me quite happy, actually. Even though I know about God's death, I was still partially biased towards him after all. He basically died saving the world by sealing Trihexa... That alone earned him my respect.

My etiquette classes went really well because there was almost no difference between wizarding and demonic nobility. I was currently a proper heir in Grayfia's words and I could see the pride in the maid's eyes. I thanked the Maou for taking their time and everyone just smiled as Serafal squeezed me with our cheeks rubbing together.

"Vi-chan, you have to visit the Underworld soon or I'll miss you." She said with moist eyes.

"Don't worry, big sister Serafal. You are welcome to see me whenever you want. Just... Don't grab me like that in public. I don't care if we're among friends like now, but... decorum should be kept to outsiders." I explained seriously and she just nodded with bright eyes.

I will regret this, won't I?

"Farewell, young Vitra." Sirzechs said smiling. "I'll wait for the surprises you will bring us in the future."

"I won't disappoint, big brother."

"Goodbye, brat... yawn... we'll see you later." Falbium spoke with a stretch. "Continue your training on your own from now on."

"Yes, brother Falbium. I'll get stronger quickly."

"Lord Vitra, I'm sure it will be stronger when we come together again in the future." Grayfia smiled slightly at me. I think she has a brother complex, but I didn't blame her. Her brother faked her own death and now she believed herself to be the only one of the Lucifuge clan.

"Thank you big sister Grayfia, I'll get stronger and steal you from older brother Sirzechs." I played brilliantly for the adults' amusement.

"I'll wait for that... though I don't think it will succeed, Lord Vitra."

"We'll see."

They sat towards me. After that, magic circles appeared on the ground beneath them and they disappeared.

I'll miss…well, it's not like we'll never see each other again, after all.
