Chapter 27: Capsule

We entered an elevator and Maya swiped a card. A hand scanner appeared and she scanned it and a list of floors appeared. She pressed the highest one and the elevator moved.

She was silent the entire time so I assumed she had more important matters to deal with. The elevator reached the top floor. We got off and I knew that what I was seeing wasn't supposed to be seen by me.

The technology I was seeing weren't just unreleased products or even leaked or hinted. These were things that hadn't even been thought of.

"You can explore if you want" Maya said. "I have some business to attend to. I'll be back"

She walked away and I looked around. There were a lot of things I could do. I saw a huge pod like structure, almost like a coffin for a human. It was probably related for VR.

Since that seemed liked the only thing that made sense I went over.

No one seemed to be monitoring the device so I went over and took a closer look. It was pure white and smooth. No cracks or openings seemed to be there. There were only five led dots on the top side. Three of them were illuminated with white whereas the other 2 were illuminated red.

I didn't know what it was at all. It wasn't even connected to a power source meaning it ran on an internal power source. I looked at it closer and suddenly the top opened and a girl with a hoodie and glasses got up. She looked about 25 or so. She then looked at me. "Who are you?" she asked.

I stared blankly. Who was she?

"I haven't seen you from around here. Are you a new guy? Which floor are you from?" she asked these questions consecutively. She looked at me from up to down. "Although your clothing suggests that you don't work here. But your pretty young to be a businessman who made it to the top floor". She was saying all of this to herself.

I had worn the two piece suit that Maya had gifted me and I knew it was expensive.

"My name is Oliver Lancaster." I said.

She took in my last name and processed it. "Wait, your that kid that everyone's been talking about. Everyone was saying that boss had a kid and I didn't believe it but wow!" she said. "So are you a rich jerk or actually a decent human being?"

"Umm..." I didn't know how to respond. "I'd like to think of myself as decent but that depends on your point of view" I said.

She looked at me and then patted me on the shoulder. "You seem pretty cool" she said. "So why are you here?" she asked.

"I was told I could have a look around and this seemed to catch my eye" I responded.

"Well then let me enlighten you boss son" she said.

"My name's not-"

"Shush boss son" she said. "I can't waste brain capacity remembering your name"

I sighed.

"This... is VR capsule!" she said dramatically.

I looked at her waiting for her to continue.

She looked at me expecting applause but she gave up.

"So... pretty self explanatory" she said.

I knew that, seeing how it looked, it would probably be expensive but I decided to ask anyway.

"200 to 300" she said.

"That's actually pretty cheap" I said in surprise.

"That must be like pocket change for you huh?" she said.

VR had come a long way and even top tier headsets were limited at 500 dollars max.

I repeated what I thought and she looked at me and laughed.

"Oh no wonder. You thought it was 200-300 dollars" she said. "I meant 200-300 THOUSAND dollars"

"What!" I shouted.

A few engineers looked at me bringing their faces up from whatever they were engrossed with.

"Quiet!" she hissed.

"Sorry" I said. "That type of money is a lot for me" I said.

I then explained my childhood and how I was raised and what happened and she understood.

"Damn, I think I see the boss in a different light now." she said. "Everyone in this place admires him. Didn't know he did that" she added.

"To answer your question, which you didn't even ask, on why it's so expensive, it's because this thing saves muscle memory" she said.

"Wait what?" I asked in confusion.

"Let's say you practise a single kick for one year. Eventually you'll get to a point where you don't even think about the kick when you perform it. It's engrained in your body. This thing can capture muscle memory in game. Let's say you learn a karate skill in game. You can then use that skill and your character will perform the actions. With this it'll get saved and you can use it in real life." she said. "Plus with the time distortion you can get years of practice in a shorter time. That type of tech is pricey" she added.

"That's actually pretty impressive" I said. "That would actually be a game changer in the military".

Her expression turned a bit glum. "I know. That's it's most major use."

She didn't seem to like the fact that her invention was going to be used by the military.

"So" she said. "You want to try it out?" she asked.

"Can I?" I asked back.

"Sure! Your boss son after all!" she responded. "So do you play net-core?" she asked.

"Yeah" I responded.

I gave her my account details and she inputted it in her computer.

"Hmmm... level 52, not bad" she said. Then she knitted her eyebrows. "How'd you level up so fast?" she asked. "You only started playing a month ago"

"How do you know that?" I asked.

She pointed to her pc screen. My full account details were on it. I went over and looked. There was more information than what you could get from an analyse skill.

I scrolled through and then saw class. It said none. It was a bit surprising. I looked over at her and she was still wondering how.

Not everyone knows about it. The company was responsible but not everyone knew.

"Intense grinding" I replied simply.

She raised her eyebrows at me. "Ok. Whatever you say"

I got into the capsule and it closed. I felt a little claustrophobic but I dealt with it. The bed inside adjusted and shaped into my back. I felt a needle going inside and more coming in but then I transported to the virtual world before I could feel anything.

I appeared in a white room and I got a video message from her.

"You can do whatever you want. I've added admin commands so you can spawn enemies and stuff. Knock yourself out."

I spawned a few dummies and took out my revolver. It was just like in game. I shot all of them with perfect accuracy. I then spawned a few enemies. I battled them with my revolver and when they got too close I used my dagger.

Eventually I decided to play around a bit more. I knew that if I learnt a combat skill in game I could use it in real life. So I decided to try it out.

I downloaded boxing, karate and the basics and used it on enemies. After 12 hours in game even without using the skill I could replicate the moves. I had learnt what would take years of training in a few hours.

"This is actually useful" I said to myself.

Suddenly I was disconnected and back in the capsule.

It opened up and I got out.

"So how was it?" she asked.

Before I could respond I heard a yell.

"Lisa!" Maya shouted and came marching towards us.
