Chapter 4: Battle

I was afraid. After all, I had no idea how the two of us could stand up to these beasts. Would we box them with fists? That would only cost us our hands if we even came close to them.

Kaya who was at least as desperate as I was shouting with all his might:

"Akira, I have a plan!"

From that moment on, our thoughts merged. I ran to him and had typed correctly, he tore out one of the remaining trees. When I reached it, I touched the tree and after a few seconds it began to burn brightly. That was also necessary, because the foxes were only about a dozen meters from and away. Kaya gathered his strength again and threw the already completely burning tree at the foxes. Although the fire scared them off for a brief moment, they had quickly regrouped.

"AGAIN!" cried the now desperate Kaya.

I didn't let myself be told that twice. I put all my energy into my right hand and hopefully let the tree go up in flames one last time. Kaya also put his maximum power into throwing at these monsters. But even this time, the litter did almost nothing. We ran. As fast as it could. We didn't stop. Not even the monster foxes. After several minutes of the sprint I looked over my shoulder, but I saw nothing to improve the situation. The foxes had been joined by another animal. I couldn't see what it was, but I realized that it was also mutated. Kaya also noticed this and reacted so quickly that I could not see his movements. But I realized: his eyes were green. He ran towards the mutants, crossed his arms and blocked the attack of all three beasts. Again and again.

"Run Akira, I'll give you time!"

Were the words that came out of his mouth before he repented of the third mutant. But I couldn't. I couldn't escape. Without thinking about it, I ran towards the mutants and gave them a blow with my burning fist. The mutant left Kaya alone and fixated on me, I got ready to strike again.

So did I. With this blow, I threw a mutant several meters away. This time it was me who ran towards him and gave him a blow. This time, too, I did damage. Also with the next blows the mutant began to be properly injured.

When he stopped moving a few strokes later, I started to help Kaya. I knocked the other fox away with my fist, while I set fire to the other mutant, which turned out to be a wolf, with my hand. Kaya knew I needed time so he fended off the fox mutant. When we had almost won the battle, the horrified Kaya cursed: "Fuck"

When he turned to me, I saw that his eye color had already changed to red again. I could imagine what that meant: If he had green eyes, he was in his "defensive form" With the red eyes in the "attack form"

This theory was confirmed when he killed the fox with just one blow.

Amazed by Kaya's strength, I had not noticed how the wolf had freed itself and was now standing there. He jumped towards us. But he didn't stand a chance. In a split second, Kaya had hurled him to me. So with another blow we destroyed him.

Me and Kaya were a team. We were like ying and yang.

As we looked at each other in amazement by our new powers, we heard a rustle. The bush. Strange noises came from the bush. Just as I was about to ask Kaya what that was, a young man I estimated to be in his mid-twenties jumped out of the bush and said:

"You have potential, guys!"
