Chapter 2: Redemption
Shawn woke up from his bed at 4 am sharp. He turned to Jack but he was still asleep, so he got up and left his bed unfixed as he went to the bathroom to take a shower and do some personal hygiene stuff.
After walking out of the bathroom, clean and fresh, Jack was already up, rubbing his sleepy eyes and walks up to the kitchen to cook for breakfast.
Shawn wore a jacket that had little detail on it and some jogging pants, "The subway is 4 kilometers away from here, it would only take me about 30 minutes if I jog all the way up there. I remembered that there was a nearby cafe that I used to visit as well, guess I'll have breakfast there instead." He thought before grabbing his wallet, handkerchief, phone and earphones then walked by the door, playing a random music coming from his phone.
"Going somewhere?" Jack asked, looking at Shawn.
"Just gonna be out for a while. There's no need for you to cook me breakfast, I'll stop by in a cafe along the way." Shawn calmly replied and opened the door to head out.
"Alright, bud. Take care!" Jack waved farewell as Shawn left then finished cooking before he grabbed a plate in a shelf and ate breakfast, "Good luck, Bushman!" he thought.
Today was Monday, the weather was still cold but there were no signs of snow yet. The calm streets of few cars roaming around the city was relaxing, the sun was still not up but the blue sky would always enlighten Shawn everytime he would go for a walk. As expected, it gave him courage to change and started jogging a bit faster than before.
It was still 4:37 am after arriving at the entrance of the subway, Shawn stopped, took off his earphones and looked around, panting softly as sweat ran down his jacket. He finally found the cafe and went in, "Phew! Atleast this cafe would open up early in the morning." he thought.
"Good morning, sir! What can I do for you today?" A female clerk, dressed in a cute and gorgeous maiden outfit asked, looking at Shawn from behind the counter while arranging some things on top of a shelf.
"I'd like a cup of coffee, please." Shawn smiled and sat on a stool, then pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped off the sweat on his forehead and neck.
"Alright!" The female clerk prepared to make coffee not by a coffee machine but by manual procedures, then placed it in front of Shawn.
Shawn took a sip on the coffee and was delighted, feeling relieved from the warm liquid, flowing down unto his stomach, "It's really delicious!" he thought.
Another female clerk, who has a youthful face, was 3 feet tall and looked similar to the other clerk, came in from the kitchen and served Shawn a simple breakfast dish.
"Umm, pardon me, but..." Shawn looked at the female clerks and continued, "I didn't order this." he was so confused about what was going on.
"Oh! Not to worry, Shawn! It's on us, this time." the taller female clerk spoke, waving her hands at Shawn, making a sign that he shouldn't worry about it.
The shorter clerk ran and hugged Shawn's back, "Brother Shawn! It's been so long since I last saw you!" she said in a cute voice, she was full of energy and joy that she kept jumping up and down while still holding unto him.
Shawn faced at the younger clerk, "Annie? Oh my God! It's been so long! Look how big you've grown!" he was so happy at that moment. He then patted Annie's head gently while she was giggling and blushing for a bit.
"This is my sister, Claire!" Annie pointed at Claire while she waved hello to Shawn.
Shawn looked at Claire and gently scratched his head using his index finger, "I only saw your mother and Annie, working. How come I never saw you?"
"Oh! I... uhh... Well, y-you see..." Claire tried to avoid eye contact from Shawn while her face was pale red.
Annie pulled Shawn's jacket and whispered in his ear, "Everytime you came in, she would hide in the kitchen because she was way too shy to talk to you. But she does like you, a lot!" she smiled innocently after withdrawing her hands from the grab.
"Annie! What the heck?!" Claire's face became as bright and red as a tomato, then they started quarreling at each other.
Shawn didn't pay attention to their conversation and focused on eating his breakfast instead.
After 2 hours had passed, Annie and Claire finally stopped and realized that Shawn already left, leaving a big tip on the counter behind.
Shawn began strolling around the subway, trying to kill some time while waiting for Eve. He became a bit impatient, so he sat on a bench and took a nap.
After a few minutes, Eve finally showed up at the subway while Shawn was still asleep. She gently kept slapping his left cheek, then he finally woke up.
"Oh, you're finally here. What time is it?" Shawn yawned and stretched his arms, then rubbed his eyes afterwards.
"It's umm... 6:50 in the morning." Eve said after checking the time on her watch, then asked, "How long have you been here?"
"4:30, more or less. Don't worry, I had breakfast." Shawn replied and stood up from the bench.
"Oh. Okay then, let's go!" Eve said in excitement as the train arrived just in time, "Wow, Shawn is so eager to seek redemption, guess I should be serious about this." she thought while hopping into the train and sat on a seat.
Shawn sat on the opposite seat of Eve and closed his eyes, "Be cool, be cool, don't be so nervous, this is just for today!" he thought while keeping himself calm. Knowing the fact that he was with a famous female YouTuber.
The train stopped in another station, Eve and Shawn went out of the subway and walked into the Western State University campus.
"This is where you graduated college, am I correct?" Shawn asked while looking around the campus but kept a steady pace, following Eve.
"Actually, I still haven't graduated yet, and this year's my final stay in the university." She said before opening a door of a small cabin.
Inside the cabin, there were 10 chairs surrounding the round table that had snacks and drinks on it, a pile of chairs on the farthest corner, and a pile of VR headsets on desks near the table, and there were 9 more girls in the room. All of them wore cute school uniform outfits that had a tournament badge on their right shoulder.
"Hey guys!" Eve spoke up while the girls were chitchatting on each other. After Eve spoke, they all looked at Eve, then to Shawn with cold stares.
"Eve, who is this?" A girl with short red hair, who seemed to look familiar and acts like a sassy leader, stood up, strong and firm.
"This is Shawn! He's here to get started on his first day in WARFARE." Eve responded, introducing Shawn while he smiled awkwardly and waved hello to the silent crowd.
"Shawn Enfis? The Bushman? Ugh, I don't believe you." The leader rolled her eyes away from Eve and looked at the other girls, "Guys, how can we believe that this is Shawn Enfis? I mean, look at him!"
The girls were murmuring at each other and were confused of what to do, "Now, now, take your time people." The leader spoke to the crowd.
"Guys, guys, I'm telling you, he is the actual Shawn Enfis!" Eve said, trying to protect Shawn from their inappropriate actions.
"Hehe, I forgot that Western State University was an all girls school..." Shawn thought furthermore about the sassy leader, then finally spoke up, "Oh, you're Scarlett! Leader of the School Girls Squad." he pointed at the girl, standing with the sassy attitude.
"That is a matter of fact, correct." Scarlett crossed her arms and smirked, looking at Shawn, "Let me guess. You're a fan?"
"No. I'm just a gamer who easily crushed you guys during squadron tournaments for almost 5 years..." Shawn chuckled slightly and crossed his arms, dominating the atmosphere around the cabin.
"What did you say?!" Scarlett became furious after what Shawn said.
"You heard me. How about a rematch, me versus all of your team." Shawn said coldly, then got pulled by Eve on the back.
"Are you insane? You can't take all of them alone!" Eve was worrying too much for Shawn and held his jacket tight.
"Don't worry, it's not like it's my first time scolding idiots." Shawn replied, patting her head gently.
Scarlett laughed wickedly and said, "I accept, on one condition..." Raising her index finger while all the other girls stood behind her.
"We'll have to do it in WARFARE." Scarlett grinned while staring at Shawn, coldly.
"Ugh... You talk to much, let's just get this over with!" Shawn responded quickly, feeling impatient from all the talking.
