Chapter 19: Emergency! Setting Off!

(Grammerly has been acting up. Been trying to fix it all day but got no luck. Forgive any grammar/spelling issues.)

The next morning, Baldur was enjoying his time in bed with Selene when he heard footsteps approaching. Before the person could even knock on the door, Baldur had called out to them.

"Come in!"

Sarius walked in wearing his special armor that signified his position as a Grand Master. He looked slightly nervous, having drawn the short straw between the other Grand Masters on who had to inform Baldur of the situation.

"Lord Primarch. We have received word from Star Hunters. Their 5th Great Company is currently stuck in a stalemate with a xeno-human alliance. We are the closest group that can provide reinforcements and break that stalemate," Sarius reported.

The Star Hunters were the Vth Legion

"Fine. Get the 3rd and 9th Chapters ready to deploy," Baldur ordered, knowing that he had no choice but to assist them. Even though he was in the middle of The Hunt, he would not abandon his brother's sons because of that.

"Yes, Lord Primarch!" Sarius saluted before leaving the room to inform the 2 Chapters that they were being called to action

Selene walked out of the bathroom, fully dressed and ready for a day of hunting.

"Looks like we got a change of plans. I'll get the Witches ready," Selene told him. Baldur nodded and went off to get changed before heading to the cockpit, where the crew was waiting for him.

"Ready for takeoff, Commander," the pilot and co-pilot stood at attention when Baldur entered.

"Activate hover mode and get us safely above the landing zone. Then make our way to the rendezvous point," Baldur told them.

The engines of the Drake came to a nearly silent purr as they turned on. Those who had woken up early saw the black ship slowly float higher and higher until the main engines at the back came to life, startling all who were sleeping awake. The ship shot into the sky and then out of it, traveling toward Feluc where the fleet for the 3rd and 9th Chapters.

Baldur was greeted by the site of his personal Gloriana-Class Battleship that was the pride of the 2nd Legion, it was nearly 21 kilometers long. Next to it were two Emperor-Class Battleships, only smaller than Baldur's personal vessel but much larger than the other ships. Each was about 14 kilometers in length, practically cities that flew through space.

Surrounding the three large ships were several Infernus-Class Heavy Cruisers and Dauntless-Class Light Cruisers and dozens of Sword-Class Frigates and Cobra-Class Destroyers.

Baldur's Drake parked inside of the hangar aboard his Gloriana. Once inside, he and Selene teleported to the bridge of the ship, startling the crew.

The captain was the first to recover. He was a member of Feluc's military, whom Baldur had taken over for some of the original crew. The crew was not from Feluc or his Astartes. He couldn't trust them like he could trust his own people so he had them all replaced, waiting to be shipped back to Terra when the next supply ship arrived.

"Your Majesty," the young man greeted. "Thank you for bestowing me the honor of commanding your flagship."

"You have performed well and have earned this position," Baldur wasn't one to let emotions blind him. He had seen how well Spencer Gilmore had performed at the academy. He may not have the most experience but Baldur saw the potential the young man had and knew he would be the best Admiral for his fleet and captain that his ship could have.

"You name it yet?" Selene asked while looking around the bridge, impressed by how advanced it was

"No, ma'am. I was planning on letting His Majesty name it," Spencer gave her a small bow, his body still frightened by the time she destroyed a village by herself.

Baldur looked around the room and outside the window, taking in the sleekness of the vessel. It wasn't like most Imperial designs which looked clunky and old-fashioned.

"The Invictus. It means unconquerable or undefeated. That seems like a suitable name for it," Baldur wanted to give the ship's name true meaning: one that would predict its future

"The Invictus. I like it," Selene agreed with the name

"Indeed. It would be my honor to command such a ship," Spencer also liked the name. It gave off a dominating feeling when one said it

With the ship named, all that was left was to the fleet in proper formation.

In order to move through the Warp, special Psykers called Navigators were needed. These were individuals born with a third eye that helped them see the best path to take. This was a laughable knockoff of what the Asuryani were capable of with any of their Psykers, masters of being able not only see how to safely travel to any location but even being able to see the threads of fate itself.

Still, the Navigators were necessary as Human Psykers were not at the same level as Asuryani. The Navigators saw the safest path through the Warp to reach desired locations but it caused a large amount of strain, especially with such a large fleet.

In order to lessen the burden, fleets were organized into formations that would allow them to do something akin to slipstreaming through the Warp.

The 3 larger ships took the lead while many of the destroyers and frigates stayed behind it until the stream faded then the cruisers came in to help take some of the load off for the rest of the escort vessels.

Once all the ships got into position, they activated their Warp-Drives and created a giant portal into the Warp. It looked like a portal created by eldritch horrors, and they were about to enter it. Just standing before it caused many of the faint of heart to collapse. Luckily for the crew, most had experience against daemons from the battles that Baldur had put them through.

Baldur looked at the portal, feeling nothing but disgust and a small amount of fear. He hated that he needed to travel through it. The beings that ruled over that space were the ones that attacked him as a child but he knew that as long as they followed the Navigators' path, they would be safe.

"Let's go. The Star Hunters are waiting on us," Baldur commanded all of the ships

The ships slowly entered the giant portal one by one until none were left. When they had all entered, the portal shut behind them. Their fates would be unknown to the rest of the Galaxy until they got word back from their soldiers.
