Chapter 2: Chapter 1: Scholarship

(Ravine POV)

10 years later...

Lucky enough for me and Frida, we both received a scholarship letter to Waldorf University and since it's not feasible for us to travel from our hometown all the way to the university, our parents decided to send us away to live in a boarding house run by Sister Blanche. I also heard that the house caters to other scholars from our hometown and other areas so it shouldn't be that difficult to make friends. We will also have our own room so it's kind of like a dorm.

It's actually pretty exciting.

"And remember, don't be a burden to Sister Blanche, she's doing a very nice job of welcoming strangers into her house. At least pay her back with a nice and polite behavior." Mama said.

"I got it. I got it." I said as she was trying to fix my coat.

"Mom, I have it for the tenth time already." Frida said, aggravated by her mom's insistence.

"Frida Presley, don't you use that tone with me." She said before fixing Frida's bangs.

"Ravine, I want you to keep an eye out for Frida. Help her stay out of trouble." Mr. Presley told me as we did a fist bump.

"Same goes with you, Frida. Help my son stay out of trouble. If he does anything stupid, I'm just one call away." Papa told Frida.

"Sure thing, Mr. Canella. Don't you worry about him as long as I'm here."

"All aboard!!" The train conductor announced.

"Hurry now, you're going to miss the train." Mama said.

"Alright, bye guys!"

"Bye, darlings! We'll try to visit every weekend if we can." Mrs. Presley said as Frida and I waved goodbye at them.

We climbed aboard the train with our luggage and the conductor assisted and accompanied us to our cabin.

"Here you go, a nice spacious cabin for the two of you." He said as he placed our belongings in the compartment above.

"Thank you, kind sir!"

"If you are hungry or you need anything, just proceed to the lounge. We will be happy to serve you."

"Thank you so much."

"Have fun!"

He exited our cabin and as soon as he left, Frida called dibs on the upper bunk bed.

"Ooh, nice and soft, look at that."

"Don't you want to have a coffee or something?" I asked.

"No. I think I'll just go to bed. Wake me up by seven so we can get dinner in the lounge"

"You're sleeping already?"

"Why? What do you want to do?"

"There's an observation deck at the very back of the train. We should go there for some fresh air."

"Fine, whatever but the upper bunk is mine."

----

"A-a-ah" We made these loud noises as we stood by the train balcony.

"A-a-ah!"

Frida and I are like a bunch of idiots screaming and laughing at the deck. We carried on until we were stopped by the conductor.

"Now, now, when I said to have fun, I didn't mean to scream like a pterodactyl. Please, there are passengers sleeping in their cabin. Let's be respectful." He said before gracefully leaving.

"Yes sir!" I said sarcastically. Frida couldn't stop laughing at our antics.

----

"Frida, are you still awake?" I asked.

"Hmm…kind of!" She said.

Frida and I are having a hard time sleeping in our cabin. I don't know if it has something to do with the train ride or if we miss our parents already.

"Let's go to the observation deck." I said.

"Again?"

"The cold air will do us good."

"Fine."

We grabbed our jackets and put it on over our night clothes before exiting our cabin to go to the train balcony. Once we've set foot on deck, the cold air immediately slaps our faces.

Frida and I just stood there and enjoyed the breeze of the wind against our skin. There was a moment of silence and serenity between us and that rarely happens when I'm with Frida.

"It's nice, isn't it?" She asked.

"Yeah." I said as I enjoyed the view.

"What do you think Waldorf is going to be like?" Frida asked.

"Rich kids, I guess. Higher grading system and higher standards."

"How do you feel right now, Ravine?"

"What do you mean, Frida?"

"How do you feel right now after leaving our hometown…after leaving Winstead?"

"Nervous but excited as well. Don't get me wrong, I love Winstead and I grew up there but I feel like Marydale will present us with more opportunities. Who knows what could happen? Our lives could change in Marydale, we just have to give it a shot, won't we?"

"I guess."

"Hey! You know I am always here for you, right? We can do this. First step is the hardest part but we can overcome it if we stick together." I said as I held her hand.

"Yeah, we are scholars for a reason."
